1. No..in the other, the officer resigned
Smithy ,   TA,Israel   (11.11.09)
Fares didn't want to go through 2.5 years of this stuff. He wants a trial, sure, it will just take a few years. Tamir also can't hold a command position in the IDF for 2 years.
2. Fares needs to remember that he is not a Jew
Joseph Blough ,   USA   (11.11.09)
There are two standards in Israeli when it comes to justice; one for Jews and one for everyone else, and the sooner Fares recognizes that fact the better off he will be. Sure they both lied in nearly identical circumstances, but Tamir is a Jew which gives him elevated rights and protections that no Druze will ever obtain because Israel is the Jewish homeland.
3. I believe dismissal in both of these
Joe ,   Ohio, Usa   (11.11.09)
mens cases is excessive. The price they should pay should be fair and equal.
4. Birds of a feather.
Philip ,   Afula,Israel   (11.11.09)
Flock together. Both out or both in .Otherwise we may think that something stinks in the "great" IDF,or that nothing has changed in their "drgrees of honesty".I for one cannot understand the difference between therse two . They both lied.A lie is a lie in both peace time and war time. Therefore both out.
5. @2 Joseph Blough
Smith ,   TA, Israel   (11.11.09)
I guess you don't know too much about Israeli law. Every Israeli citizen is guaranteed equality whether or not he or she is a Jew. Your ignorant remark is a disgrace. Fares and many others like him have helped to guarantee the safety of the Israeli State, the Jewish State, and that includes people like you who may one day make aliyah although I hope you don't. You have no understanding of Israel so please stay in America.
6. The DIFFERENCE...
Eli Freedman ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (11.11.09)
IF, it was comparing ONLY the two incidents, then, maybe Id agree. BUT, Captain Wahabe (res) , is disingenuous at best. There were disciplinary problems in the past with Fares, including a major brawl at Acco a few years ago, that he was involved in (And according to Police reports, INSTIGATED!!), with some of his soldiers. He also was reprimanded for beating up his driver. So please spare us, your accusations of "Racism" and " The moor has done his duty"..THAT'S rascist!!
7. Druze Officer
British Zionist ,   London   (11.11.09)
In this case I have to agree with the Druze Officers. This is a clear case of discrimination and is unacceptable. Imad Fares should be re-instated immediately. Sometimes we are own worst enemy.
8. i agree that there is racism involved here.
JB ,   Haifa   (11.11.09)
If you serve the idf. There is one rule for all and it should not matter which religion or race you belong to. reinstate Fares.
9. agree with #4
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (11.11.09)
it is better in the long run for the army to have zero tolerance for lying. morality in the army is crucial and it is a shame that anyone caught lying, no matter his position, is not dismissed.
10. It is an absolute outrage that Tamir is not demoted
Noa ,   Beer Sheva   (11.11.09)
And it is unbelievable that he does not resign. But with role models like Olmert, what do you expect? Still, the court has to put Tamir in his place, otherwise it sets the wrong signal: Traffic laws? Who cares?? BTW: Jewish law says that people who bear responsibility have to be punished harder than others. Not less than others!
11. only in Israel, "most moral army in the world"
Ann   (11.11.09)
12. Agree with Joe #3
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (11.11.09)
These two officers didn't reach their high rank due to their short-comings. A fine for both and re-instatement for Fares. The Druze are loyal citizens and deserve even-handedness.
13. What do they want?
Puffy   (11.11.09)
Fares resigned. He didn't try to fight it, and didn't appeal it. He could have stayed in the army and appealed. What exactly do they want?
14. it's not idf's racism, he is druze!!!!
ale ,   Italia   (11.11.09)
is impossible that israel and idf were racists. they are jewish, for jewish, for sion and third mounth.... but not racists. just one problem in this history... he is druze in a jewish (moral moral moral ) community. if you was/are jewish it's ok!!!! i love israel, JEWISH ONLY STATE!!!!!
15. Well, I guess he should not have resigned
Bob ,   NY,NY   (11.11.09)
It's his own fault for not wanting to fight it like Tamir did for 2 years. Also, the only thing Tamir got back is his rank, which Fares did not lose.
16. IDF Discrimination
Bruria   (11.11.09)
In light of the recent attacks on the morality of the IDF and Israel in general this is a terrible decision. Regardless if the one appealed or not, the punishment should fit the crime and in reality this really makes us look biased. What a shame for us all.
17. Druze, Does not have a Good Arab psychiatrist?
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (11.11.09)
It seem there are many in USA, get it.
18. Brigadier General lies and gets away with it!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (11.11.09)
What kind of an example is his behavior to young soldiers and to the youth of the country already suffering under the effects of the breakdown of knowing what is right and what is wrong? The Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Gabi Ashkenazi, stated that he is not the commander of an army of war criminals, looters and murderers. By his support of Tamir, he his providing our enemies with a fact that he supports liars! Both very senior officers are guilty of behavior unbecoming to an officer and should be sent packing!
19. #2 - Know nothing moron.
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (11.11.09)
Fares RESIGNED; Tamir DID NOT. Fares doesn't know that his treatment would have been deifferent HAD HE NOT RESIGNED.
20. Fares
Oleh   (11.11.09)
I hope Brig Fares is given the opportunity to re-apply for, and regain, his former job. He seems to have been a loyal and effective officer and the state should not have been so quick to see him resign. Brig Fares, thank you for your contribution to Israel and I hope you receive the reward and recognition that are due to you.
21. To # 18
Philip ,   Afula ,Israel   (11.11.09)
It was a' Little Lie' just like being a "Little Pregnant".As the late king Hussein of Jordan once said,"its acceptable to lie in the middle east" Some of our politicians know this well,at the rate we are going it will be our "calling card" into the middle east family of naions.
22. Officer and a Gentleman
George Patton ,   Secret location,Isra   (11.11.09)
Fares resigned according to the codes of an officer and a gentlrman. Tamir read the moral topography map and realised he could easily relocate to higher ground. There he could regroup with those like him and brazen it out. Maybe an officer but not a gentleman. Many graduates of West point will tell you that you can be one and not the other
23. # 5 ,you are the ignorant one
(11.11.09)
# 2 told the truth and i as an israeli will confirm what he said
24. #s 4 and 9
(11.11.09)
the idf cannot and will never know what morals and the truth is , for if they talk the truth ,each and every officer in all ranks will have to face the harsh justice
25. Restore Fares
Mitch ,   Boca Raton   (11.11.09)
Imad Fares is an Israeli hero and should be restored to his rank immediately. I am sure that he has learned from his mistake and hopefully it will make him even better. One justice system for all Israelis- regardless of religion, color, gender, origin, etc. That is the Israel we love.
26. 24 - maybe your coward terrorist friends can set the example
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (11.12.09)
you know nothing of morals, truth, or justice.
27. dont be so sure
yugh ,   israel   (11.14.09)
both generals lied, both need to be kicked out of service for good!!!!!!!
28. israel and idf is biger than any individual or clan
iofyt ,   israel   (11.14.09)
no particular groop will hold a favore from the state
