without preconditions! And then they claim they want peace. What a joke.
6. Resettlement.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (11.14.09)
It is a historic reality that Jerusalem, as the entire land, were originally intended to be a homeland for the Jewish people. The Arabs living in this area, the so called “Palestinians” (about 5.000.000 persons) should in fact have a place and opportunity to settle, but it shouldn’t be in Jerusalem and/or the Land of Israel. As the total for all the 22 Arab League countries is 6,145,389 square miles (SM ) and Israel has only 8,463 SM, the resettlement of the Arabs should not be problematic. By comparison, all 50 states of the United States have a total of 3,787,318 SM. More at : http://xrl.us/osyi8
7. U.S. disinvolvement
Alf. ,   Israel   (11.14.09)
Seems to me the PA has 3 options: 1-- stay the way things are now. 2--declare themselves an independent state which includes all those presently living there. This will be ratified by the U.N. 3-- join as one united country with Israel and be citizens with full rights, like serving in the army. One Israel is, after all, what the right wing in Israel wants. Why not agree with them.

9. #7 Alf United country is not an option
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (11.14.09)
Alf, your list of options should read 1-- stay the way things are now (at least until you have elections and a government that speaks for you) 2--declare themselves an independent state which includes all those presently living there. This will be ratified by the U.N. (which kills Oslo and changes the negotiation game) 3-- join your home countries and stop the nonsense that resolution 242 says anything else. I.e. join with Jordan or Egypt where you belonged prior to Israel liberating you. As to bringing in the descendants of the refugees that is also a no-starter. No other refugee group has the status passed on as an inheritance, everyone else in the world is only a refugee if you were personally kicked out or fled, children are considered part of the country where they were born.
10. To: No. 7
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.14.09)
1 - The Palestinians are a fractious rabble. Sadly, that will probably never change. 2 - Under whose leadership? There are, after all, thirty-odd organizations, each purporting to be the sole true representative of the Palestinian people. The Palestinians cannot organize a meeting, let alone an actual government. Just look at how the infrastructure has been allowed to deteriorate in areas controlled by the Palestine Authority; look at the huge unemployment rate which the PA leadership has failed to do anything about; look at their inability to attract investment and economic opportunity -- this despite the billions of dollars and billions of euros in cash aid which has poured into the coffers of the Palestine Authority. 3 - Out of the question. Israel's identity is uniquely that of a Jewish state. To absorb the Palestinians would change that identity. What the right wing in Israel has increasingly come to realize is that Israel cannot live with the Palestinians. All of the disparate Palestinian organizations share one thing in common: a declaration in each of their charters that they are dedicated to the destruction of the State of Israel and to the extermination and/or expulsion of the Jewish people. While some of the organizations are outright rejectionist, I note that the ones that profess to want peace have thus far refused to repudiate their charters. Israel will not absorb into the Jewish state people committed to its destruction. Why not just repatriate all the noisome Arab residents in Judea and Samaria to Jordan, country of their citizenship? Jordan's population is roughly 75% Palestinian, anyway. What's a few more?
11. US not pushing Israel and Palestinians

17. Why does it matter
Frederick ,   Alexandria   (11.14.09)
what the U.S. thinks or wants? Why can't the Israelis and the Arabs figure it out for themselves? It is not the U.S. who is disadvantaged by the situation between the 2 peoples-it is the people there-in Israel/Palestine. You do not need big brother to solve your problems for you-do it yourselves!
