We can be more scientific and less chauvinistic on approaching this subject. And on my understanding, both of you are right on some points, but you are taking history way too emotionally. Perhaps linguistics can help give us some insight: Jews are the descendants of the ancient hebrew people, supposed to be a Caananite (Levantine) ethnical group (from the even broader semitic one). The closest language to hebrew in the semitic group of languages is the old Phoenician. That might suggest that the old inhabitant of pre-diasporean Judaea should be more 'Lebanese' than 'Yemenite' looking. (again - don't go neuro-political over this!) And among Lebanese and syrians you find some very light skin and blond hair people here and there. On the other hand, conversion to Judaism always existed and its strictness varied from place and/or period in history. The Hillel 'school', for example, was known for its proselitism.
