31. I can't see J Street being a "pro-Israel" organization if
Rafi ,   A Labour voter   (11.24.09)
it operates against the wishes of the Israeli public and elected government. If they want to oppose Israel's policies, they should come to Israel and be part of our political process. Refusing to do so, I can see these people only as servants of Israel's enemies, in the Middle East and abroad. No wonder, some of their funds are being received from contributors with Arab and Iranian last names...
32. Matty Groves, why do you dislike Jews so much? What have we
Sarit ,   Hadera, Israel   (11.24.09)
done to you to constantly feel, between the lines, the disgust you have for Jews and their national home of Israel?
33. JStreet are the Quislings of our time.....
NS ,   Long Island, NY   (11.24.09)
Despite the slander of certain talkbacks AIPAC was formed over 50 years ago as a non-partisan lobbying group for the defense of the State of Israel. At one time it was made up of mostly center-left Jewish activists. However, since the ascendency of traditional and Orthodox Jews, AIPAC has changed. Instead of fighting for their positions and opinions within AIPAC, center-left Jews acted like spoiled children and left the organization. Now all they have done with this new organization JStreet is drive a wedge within the Jewish community which will be exploited by Arab/Moslem-American organizations. This is exactly what the Obama Administration wanted. So Jstreet are the new Quislings of the Jewish Community. It has nothing to do with who is pro-peace because we all are. It is who has Israel's best interests at heart.
34. Jstreet= 8 mile wide Israel. J street= no Iran sanctions
Jae ,   Lynn US   (11.24.09)
J street = Hebrew people haters J street = end of Jewish path = fade into history via assimilation, adoption of non Jewish values
35. J Street wants to destroy Israel. Period!
Frank ,   USA   (11.24.09)
36. This is pro-Iranian, pro-Ahmenajad gang
Fridman ,   New York   (11.24.09)
They have very few born Jews. Most are pro-terror against Israel. Simple and true. But that what they call Peace - Arafat and others called this peace, and Arafat was kissed by Peres and Barak (I have pictures). jStreet is little bit more to the Left of the main Fatah organization.
37. Truly pathetic attempt to discredit Jstreet
Edan ,   Tel Aviv   (11.24.09)
People all over the world are starting to understand that being "pro-Israel" does not mean advocating everything Israels government does. Sometimes I really believe that American Jews know whats best for Israel better than Israelis.
38. Distorted
ussishkin ,   tel aviv israel   (11.24.09)
Those who use hysterical language like so many of the Talkbackers to this can join the two obvious nebisches outside the JStreet conference who had the dubious privilege of being the first to call me and all the others who attended the conference "Nazis". Its good coming from so-called fellow Jews to call someone like me, from a family of holocaust survivors, a Nazi. Its really smart to persist in denying reality, but its the reality you deny that will catch up with you. I only hope its not at another Metzadah - which is where all this name-calling and denial is leading us.
39. Old-line Lobby vs J Street
Abe Froman ,   NY, NY   (11.24.09)
The ongoing brouhaha between the old-line lobby and J Street is reminiscent of the internecine party squabbling prior to the Russian Revolution. They were all Socialists on Russia's side, but unless you were completely Bolshevik, you probably ended up dead. Today, unless a Zionist is completely right-wing and subservient to the neo-conservative worldview, the old-line lobby will demonize you, and throw the heretics out of camp. Stalin would be proud.
40. #38 ussishkin
Thomas ,   USA-HUNGARY   (11.25.09)
Let me tell you as a real Holocaust survivor from the Budapest Ghetto of 1944 that you are not a Nazi: You are - along with your Jstreet comrades - the hated Bolshevik Jew who deported the "other Jews" to E. Siberia, to Biriobidjan, the "Internationalist Jew" of the Stalinist cult of the Yevsektsiya - in figurative sense of course. The Judenrat of the Ghetto which selected the next transport to the camps - including the Jstreet financier G. Soros (Schwartz) of Budapest, the KAPOS of the Ghetto, the collaborators of the Arrow Cross are your intellectual heroes - not the Nazis, you are right.
41. Thank god for AIPAC
Dov Glass ,   Tel Aviv   (11.25.09)
Isreal is a living & breathing young democratic nation thriving in an extremely rough neighborhood due to the bi-partisan support that Likud, Kadima and Labor have received from both Republicans and Democrats with the help of AIPAC. J Street on the other hand is so far to the extreme left that most Democrats run for cover. Despite J Street claims of being "Kadima" they share none of the same policies. In the event the Republicans regain power and Likud stays in the government- J Street will be left in the cold talking to no one but their supporters in Iran and Saudi Arabia.
42. Gee #29
Avi ,   USA   (11.25.09)
Kol ha-kavod to all in Israel. Neither I nor J Street claim to speak for all of you or attempt to deny your right to have a different opinion. We have a stake in Israel, too - we Jews are all in the same boat regardless of geographical location. We also care about America's interests and we believe the two are aligned. You can argue that we're wrong but when you apply [what clearly are intended as derogatory] labels like leftist, anti-Israel, self-hating Jews, etc. you cross the line of debate into insult. You attempt to delegitimize us; we don't do the same to you. I would also like to invite you to carefully check the "facts" Mr. Silverman listed in his opinion piece. All the information is public. You may be surprised to see that Mr. Silverman's arguments are not as kosher as they seem to be.
43. As a donor to J Street and a Palestinian
Yaakov Sullivan ,   NYC   (11.25.09)
( since my husband is a Palestinian) I totally reject this argument.\\\ We are all for peace but what peace you ask?Pease of the brave.
44. JSTREET offers an "alternative" way=no Israel
(11.25.09)
45. Dont worry about the enemies. Worry about J-Street!
Dan ,   USA   (11.25.09)
They are the real enemies of Jews and Israel.
46. Armchair Avi in Michigan, you are not in our boat!
JPS ,   Efrat   (11.25.09)
I love it when somebody sitting in their cozy armchair in America tells me that they are in the same boat with me. You're not. You're not even close. If Israel gets wiped out tomorrow, sure you'll feel sad, but nobody is going to come into your house in Michigan and slit your throat. You happen to be the perfect example of what Ms. Silverman (she's a she, not a he) is talking about - American Jews who think they can dictate policies that affect millions of lives, and never have to leave their living room to do anything. Smartass. If you're really in the same boat with us then get off your lazy butt and make aliya. Then you can vote here, lobby here, serve your country here, pay taxes here, and have a voice here. Your kids can fight and die with my kids, and you can ride the same Egged bus with me while we get blown up together by "legitimate resistance to the occupation". Until then, your blatherings are a perfect example of how J Street pretends to lobby on our behalf, but is in reality working against us. You're not in my boat, you're with J Street pulling the plug out of the bottom, all the while telling me it's for our own good and you're with us all the way. You're not. It shows.
47. a wolf in sheep's clothing
jason ,   tel aviv, israel   (11.25.09)
48. All J Street defenders did not contradict a single argument
Boaz ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (11.25.09)
All J Street defenders did not contradict a single argument against them. Not from the article, not from the talkbacks. Do they or don’t they support sanctions on Iran? Do they or don’t they support sanctions on Israel? Is anyone who thinks differently then them is a warmonger, i. e. do they have a monopoly on peace? Does Israel have a right to exist as a democratic Jewish state? What is J Street view of Hamas? J Street you can answer your critics, or you can ignore them. Not all your critics comes from the right, I support the Two States Solution, but J Street members comes from Jewish Voice for Peace, a group whose members march with Hamas supporters on every anti Israeli demonstration there is.
49. to #42 public don't like J street cause
ghostq   (11.25.09)
they r bored extreem left wingers that make trobles, that is a fact. they don't have any ambition to bring real change just to get attention they didn't got as children.
50. What a well cooked joke
FLG. ,   Japan   (11.25.09)
"J Street’s work as a pro-Palestinian organization" It is one of the most laughable joke I have seen!
51. A late post on this subject, from me
Ram ,   London   (11.25.09)
Essentially every rational Jew wants peace with Israel's neighbours, even with painful concessions. I would personally support anybody who would come up with a plan that would lead to "true peace". I have followed, with a very open mind, J Steet's ideas/arguments for peace and as hard as I have tried to see things from their point of view I have ended up not agreeing with them. I have recently watched a program on CNN, not the friendliest towards Israel, where they intervied one of their leaders in the presence of one of his opposers. All he could say in the most articulate way was that they were a group that shows concern for Israel's future. He ignored the question of Israel's recognition by its enemies and even the continued hate that is indoctrinated in children through their textbooks in arab schools even today. For anyone who "truly cares" about Israel as the Jewish homeland surely this must be a dangerous group.
52. Avi #42 wrong on so many levels
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (11.25.09)
First J Street does claim to speak for us. And yes they are attempting to stifle our right to have a different opinion as most extreme left wing organizations do. Second - Just what is your stake here? Have you defended your country let alone Israel? I have done both the US Army and the IDF. Put on a uniform, pick up a gun and then you might have something to say. I have never used the term self-hating Jew. Leftist yes, but then again we are routinely called right wingers so if the shoe fits.... Third you do indeed attempt to to discredit us. J Street has done so since it's inception. I do check the facts of Ms. Silverman and guess what she is right. She lived in Sderot and has undergone thousands of rocket attacks - which J Street has never condemned. Each and every one of them is a war-crime. You stated that we don't have the right to decide who is pro-Israel and who is anti-Israel. Well we do, we the people of Israel, the defenders of our homeland do have that exact right. You are the one that doesn't have that right. If you were pro-Israel then you would support the democratically elected government and move here to institute changes to policies that you support. That would be pro-Israel but to attack every single Israeli policy to the world and lobby the US government to oppose our government that is not pro anything.
53. Aslo as a donor to Alavi Foundation, to Ahmedinijad personal
Yaakov Sullivan ,   NYC   (11.25.09)
account and toHoly Land for Hamas bloody Jihad Foundation I am definitely an impartial arbiter
54. Mohammad Will Become a Hero IN NYCity
Dav Lev ,   Burbank CAUSA   (11.25.09)
Fellow Zionists, the Pales win either way vis a vie JST. The group is dividing our small community. A plus for them. If JST DOES get sympathy from a gullible America, the Pales win. Again, the Arabs and their stooges have outwitted us. Corrie Blunt's death is used for Pales PR..she was Jewish. So they win again. Cast Lead is criticized by a Jew..they win. Peres, Olmert and others cannot speak abroad..yet Ahmad gets sympathy and politeness at Columbia..they win big time. While back in Iran, the Shihabs are aimed at Tel Aviv (they say so). to wipe the Jews off the map, given the pretext (like the US/Israel bombing their nuke sites). But back to J Street...don't give them publicity but confront their members..legally of course. I will..just let me at them. Daniel Pearl liked Muslims..he lost his head. Kapos lost their lives..J Streeters and Soros..you are not exempt. Get it!
55. JStreet is pro-Israel
John ,   USA   (11.26.09)
I am a member of JStreet and can assure you all members believe that firing ball bearing filled missiles at civilians is barbaric and a violation of everything we stand for. But I should also say we, along with every single country in the entire world, believe your WB settlements violate the Geneva Convention and subvert any chance for a peaceful settlement.
56. article "JStreet" by A.Silberman
L.Altmann ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (11.26.09)
Did not read all the article. But understand its importance! Jews pretending to be pro-Israel are its worst enemies ,after they have turned extreme-left and adopted the anti-Israel policy of "Peace-Now"! Shalom from Jerusalem, L.Altmann
57. John 55, if firing missiles on us is barbaric?
Boaz ,   Ramar Gan, Israel   (11.26.09)
What are we allowed to do against it? And why did J Street oppose ‘Operation Cast Lead’ from its very beginning?
58. It's hopeless
Thomas ,   USA-HUNGARY   (11.26.09)
I, the living voice from the Budapest Ghetto of 1944 - who missed the last transport - can clearly see that a large segment of American Jews still belong to the Bolshevik "Internationalists" who assume the role of the ultimate arbiters as far as the Jewish existence concerns. They spent no time dredging the swamps nor fought the wars, instead, they speculated at the altar of Money and now pontificating over the life of others. Hey, Obamabots, Jstreet; have you ever asked the Mizrahim, the Sephardim or the Sabras opinions on their Homeland? All you do is worshiping the Obama Messiah, spewing his talking point via New York Times and the Leftist Jewish
59. Being "pro-Israel" does not require blind support.
James Hovland ,   USA   (11.28.09)
Donor lists? Peace requires positioning yourself closer to your perceived enemies, not farther away. If all you do is spread hate, you'll just end up with more hate. If your definition of pro-Israel requires being anti-Palestine, J-Street does not see you as being pro-Israel just as you do not see them that way. Clinging to hate is not their idea of moving forward. Without Palestine, there will be no "Jewish" state.
60. To tell us, Israelis, how we should or shouldn't conduct our
Haviva Barzilai ,   Mazkeret Batya   (11.29.09)
affairs is arrogant. But this is precisely what this JStreet organization is attempting to do. We, Israelis, Arabs and Jews alike, elect our representatives and they in turn chose a government (this is how our democracy operates). We are responsible for our government good and bad deeds. We benefit from our government's positive contributions and pay for the negative ones. For outsiders to claim that THEY represent what good for Israel and Israelis while neither residing in Israel nor benefit from or suffering the consequences of their opinions is truly a hutzpah. Such people can discuss matters with us, Israelis, should they wish. But for the most part they can't even communicate our language - Hebrew. But of course, this is not their intent. They don't want to be part of the decision making process within Israel or even within the larger Jewish community. Their interest is to be seen and heard, at our expense, by non-Jews! Shame on you, JStreet!!! Shame on you!!!
