The more they move toward their Arab brethren the less they learn. Maybe they should investigate why education and Islam don't mix.

.... but I seem to distinctly recall that following significant lobbying on a worldwide scale and complaints brought before the United Nations General Assembly that Israel was interfering with Arab culture and education, Israel allowed Arabs to take responsibility for Arab curriculum, with only minimal oversight by the appropriate Israeli agencies and only to make sure that appropriate geographical maps were used, and that Hebrew was taught as a second language from the third grade on, much as Arabic is taught as a second language to Israeli Jews. So it would appear that the Arabs got exactly what they wanted -- control over curriculum taught to Arab children. Having gotten what they demanded, they also get to live with the consequences.

This article talks about the difference between 'the two races' in test scores. Who is to blame for this mistaken language the original writer of the article or its translator? These two national and religious groups are not 'races'.

Arabic is not taught in every school in Israel. Its taught in schools that are near the Green line & some parts of Jerusalem. Definately no taught in the center of the country/

What autonomy and independence in curricula construction are you talking about? The Arab educational system is still state-controlled and the Arab pedagogues there don't really have an effect. Besides, if Jewish students learn Arabic just as their Arab counterparts do , how come very very Jews speak Arabic as fluently as Arabs speak Hebrew ? Maybe because Arabic instruction is not really taken seriously by the Ministry ? Unequal budget and resource allocation has been there for years , and ministry after ministry has admitted that, but no action has been taken. And do you still think Arabs have got what they demanded ? Funny .

Islam activates a self- destructive spirit that manifests itself in more ways than one including in education. Even when the few achieve something in life they don't contribute much to humanity...example Major Nidal Malik Hasan who is a psychiatrist, but chose to destroy lives rather than help. Even without a common enemy, Islam turns on itself. It is truly an amazingly strange theocracy. The only destroyer mentioned by the scriptures is Satan himself...you extrapolate.

Even if it is not race as some claim, the fact is that Jewish culture as a whole has always fostered education more than other cultures, including Islamic culture. This is part of the reason why Israel has the highest number of college degrees per capita on Earth.

Perhaps the Israeli government should spend equal resources on Jewish and Arab schoolchildren, instead of several times more per capita on the Jewish students. Separate but equal education was banned in the US in 1954, but separate and blatantly unequal education is going strong in Israel today. On the other hand, since Arab citizens face gross inequality in housing, employment, and many other areas, perhaps it is best for them to be exposed to their inferior status at an early age.

Muslims have contributed much to humanity and don't follow a self destructive spirit. Ever heard of the Islamic Golden Age? When Muslims where ushering in scientific prosperity while the rest of the world (in this example Europe) where basically living a dumb downed life until a reform happened. Muslims gave to the west Universities. They also introduced various medicines and types of Alchemy. Even in the philosophy department, famous people like Maimonides were influenced by Muslim philosophers. Do some history and research before you attempt at downplaying a religion based on ignorance alone. Also as #3 said, what's the cause behind this gap?
