CORRECTION: it was seperating PALESTINE into two states. There was no Israel to seperate. Learn your history Yitzhak Benhorin
2. the UN Mourns Establishing Israel Everyday not Just Today
disgusted ,   zion   (11.30.09)
Wake up Everyone, it another day of Israel bashing at the UN, don't these jerks get tired of repeating themselves already. It is simply beyond belief that anyone could any longer consider Israel, as comapred to arab rejectionism, as being the reason why there is no peace in the middle east. The arabs are such friggin jerks they would rather see their children blow themselves up rather than live in peace and prosperity on 99% of the West Bank and Gaza. But it is really no suprise, 1300 years of the Koran encouraging Muslims to kill any non believers has had its effect. So now while the world waits for the Palestinian Mandella or Ghandi to appear, everyone else sits around and watchs the anti semites at the un make fools of themsleves over and over again. and just what is the end game for these morons, the destruction of Israel? well if it is someone should tell those idiots that if Israel goes so does everyone else. Lets see how popular Mecca is when its radioactive.
3. UN should celebrate Pals with "international terrorism week"
JPS ,   Efrat   (11.30.09)
It's time for us to get with the UN program. Let's sponsor "International terrorism week" to celebrate the great contributions by the Palestinians and Islamic heroes around the world: -international plane hijacking -international boat hijacking -throwing disabled Jews off boats -suicide bombings of public places -suicide planes into public places All of these brought to you by either the Palestinians or their supporters.
4. If you are Jewish remember this one fact
Hen   (11.30.09)
There is no such thing as a "Palestinian people" try to remember, the term was invented a few decades ago, and the former mainstream press, including this paper, repeats the mantra day in day out - but does that make it true? Does repeating a lie make it true?
5. J Fox
(11.30.09)
THe Land of Israel i.e Eretz Yisrael existed for two thousand years BEFORE the Romans renamed it 'Palestine'. look in any Tanach (Jewish Bible). YOU, yes YOU, must learn your history before shooting off your fat anti-semitic mouth off, Fox!
6. WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO HAVE THE FARCE NAMED THE UN DISMANTLED?
Sdunc   (11.30.09)
IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THE WORLD SITS BY AND ALLOWS THIS TRASH TO CONTINUE YEAR AFTER YEAR! RISE UP AND PROTEST! CALL YOUR ELECTED REPS AND DEMAND A STOP TO IT!
7. #1, Learn YOUR history. No states were created in 1947!
Jake   (11.30.09)
The UN has no legal authority or mandate to create a state, much less the General Assembly, which cannot even pass a legally binding resolution. GA Resolution 181 quite clearly states at the top that it recommends, read: *RECOMMENDS* partition of Palestine (that is British Mandate Palestine, there was no country 'Palestine') into a Jewish and Arab State. However, this PLAN RECOMMENDING partition, accepted by the Jewish Agency, was never taken up by the UN Security Council, declared unworkable by the British, and rejected by the Arabs, who then proceeded to invade Israel in an attempt to annihilate it. The legal entitlements of Jews to establish their National Home on the entire Palestine west of the Jordan River was established by the League of Nations in San Remo in 1921, and no GENERAL ASSEMBLY resolution RECOMMENDING PARTITION has any legal authority whatsover to supercede those entitlements. The notion that the UN 'created' Israel (which did not join the UN till 1949) with the Partition Plan of 1947is one of the most fantastic lies of the 20th century.
8. Repeat: No State was created by UN Partition Plan
Jake   (11.30.09)
UN General Assembly Resolution 181 "Recommends to the United Kingdom, as the mandatory Power for Palestine, and to all other Members of the United Nations the adoption and implementation, with regard to the future Government of Palestine, of the Plan of Partition with Economic Union set out below." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resolution_181 With the fighting continuing and the planned British withdrawal approaching, the United Nations Security Council reached an impasse on March 5, 1948, when it refused to pass a resolution which would have accepted the partition plan as a basis for Security Council action.[3] The United States subsequently recommended a temporary UN trusteeship for The Mandate "without prejudice to the character of the eventual political settlement", and the Security Council voted to send the matter back to the General Assembly for further deliberation.[4] In May 1948, the simultaneous British withdrawal and Israel's unilateral Declaration of Independence, which in part cites the UN resolution as recognizing the right of the Jewish people to establish a state, led to the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. The General Assembly decided to appoint a Mediator, and relieved the established Palestine Commission from any further exercise of responsibility under Resolution 181 (II).[5] Although the original mediator was assassinated, continued UN mediation efforts resulted in the 1949 Armistice Agreements, which temporarily delineated borders and greatly quieted the fighting between the parties. Years later, the Palestinian Declaration of Independence of 1988, one of the subsequent attempts to create a Palestinian state, similarly recalls the partition plan as being among the sources entitling Palestinian Arabs to statehood. This is despite strong Arab rejection of the plan at the time.
9. Suggestion
Jason, Ph.D. ,   Charlotte, USA   (11.30.09)
I urge every American citizen to write your House and Senate representatives, and tell them that the U.S. should withdraw from the U.N. Instead of the U.N., an assembly of free states should be established. The U.N. has become a horrible evil force in the world. Free people everywhere have an obligation to oppose it.
10. This Is a Joke, Right?
emanon ,   USA   (11.30.09)
The arabs rejected the original plan and never got over their own bad choice. Sure, way back when, everyone thought the Jews were crazy to want to live in such a desolate place. By the time the British Mandate was ended, the land was beginning to be livable through the effort of Jewish sweat and toil. And now that the land is so fertile . . . those that did not want o work for want to enjoy the fruits of others labors. If the arabs had not been so intent on making war all these years and had used that same energy and zealotry to till the land and build civilization instead of blowing it up, they too would have a fruitful land.
11. The UN & the Pal can go ....
Anon ,   Johannesburg   (11.30.09)

I do wish you folks in these talkbacks would learn the difference.
14. So how does anyone expect justice for Israel from such organ
Alan ,   SA   (11.30.09)
15. to #1 (and the UN)
chava ,   yerushalayim   (11.30.09)
You've clarified the problem. You (and, it seems, the UN) think that because the area where the modern state of Israel is located was called "Palestine" on maps before 1948, that there actually was a country called "Palestine" and a nation of people that lived in that country. But that's not true. The area's name was changed to "Palestine" by the Romans after they destroyed the Temple (which really did exist on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem) and occupied the land of the Jewish state, actually over a period of years. There never was a NATION of Palestine --- just a name which remained the name of the geographic area until 1948. Before 1948, the id cards of the Jewish people in the area identified these Jewish people as Palestinians. Let me repeat --- "Palestine" was the name of the geographic area --- not of a nation made up of arabs.
16. Nr.3 Simply great :-)
Esteban ,   Argentina   (11.30.09)
Well said! Great contribution to Humanity by the Palis
17. UN is nothing more than a cancer in the heart of the US
Proud Redneck ,   OH, USA   (11.30.09)
US wastes too much money on the UN - it is the biggest contributor while all the primitive and terrorist states which dictate its tune contribute less than 10% altogether. I say enough is enough: US should leave the UN and kick its headquarters out of the US soil. Let's see for how long the United Monkeys will survive without American support and how fast it will become an irrelevant zoo of dictators, tyrants, terrorists and racists. The UN in its current form has no right to exist and we have no business there anymore. I call all the civilized countries (and no, Islamic countries are not civilized enough yet), to join in and form a new UN, where democracies can decide their fate without any influence form primitive and violent countries such as Libya, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Pakistan, Venezuela and Sudan. Leave these scum drown into their own oil (we have enough!) Join hands with UK, EU, Scandinavia and Israel (the ONLY true civilized and peaceful democracy in the barbaric Middle East) and plan a future together. UN is a farce, a cheap lie and we do not need to be part of that!
18. Hitler's spirit walks in the halls of the UN
Gary   (11.30.09)
They want to erase Israel and it's five million Jews i.e a second Holocaust but the Amalekite UN must know the Jews are NEVER going quietly AGAIN
19. UN value
mohson   (11.30.09)
The UN is run by third world autocrats, dictators, and ignorant countries who are short sighted. The US is on its descendancy and with obama at the helm, it is more in league with moslems. Israel would be voted out of country if not for US veto.Israel should be become more self reliant in energy and food sources and tell the UN to go to bloody hell.
20. U.S. Republicans should push referendum on U.N. funding.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.30.09)
Due to Obama's perfectly inept handling of everything from health care, the economy, taxes and foreign policy, U.S. Republicans appear likely to win big in the mid term elections of 2010. The U.N. is widely despised in America and it gives the Republicans an excellent political weapon to use against the (U.N. worshipping) Obama. The Republicans should push a national referendum on funding the U.N. It's time American taxpayers had their say about being forced to massively fund this loathesome organization.
21. The UN is occupying American territory
Jake   (11.30.09)
against the will of a large and growing number of Americans. This draconian body of unelected bureaucrats should beware the risk of acting as a world government without deriving its powers from the consent of the governed.
22. #5, Not even the Romans called it Palestine
Jake   (11.30.09)
When in 135 AD the Romans wiped Judaea off the map, they renamed it 'Syria-Palaestina', i.e. the (former) Philistine district of Syria, after Herodotus. However, even this name did not stick, because when cartogrophers of the Renaissance began to make world maps following Ptolemy, they labeled the land Judaea (Latin IUDAEA), not Palestine.
23. #3 Israel could also join in said celebration.
Addle ,   Toronto   (11.30.09)
-Use of white phosphorus on hospitals/schools -Use of Human shields -King David Hotel bombing -Collective punishment and "collateral" damage -Targeted assassinations -Indiscriminate bombings of civillian centers. -Uncontrolled settler and radical right wing violence in occupied territories. Palestine and Israel. Two sides of the same coin.
24. San Remo 1920 enshrined into the International Law
Jake   (11.30.09)
the legal right of the Jews to reconsitute their National Home on the lands west of the Jordan River (for those for whom the Bible is a meaningless document). No UN Partition Plan recommmending further partition of the original Palestine Mandate, and indeed no UN resolution past, present, or future, has any legal right to cede any part of that land away from the Jewish people. Anyone who bases Israel's right to exist on the stillborn Partition Plan is inviting the UN , which can always vote to declare that plan null and void, to vote Israel out of existence altogether.
25. #23 Yes, you are addled. No need to point that out.
Jake   (11.30.09)
26. LOL, Thanks Ynet I love the joke of the day today.

Madam I do wish you would try to understand that the land of Israel belongs to the Jews & we are NOT occupying any land that we dont own. I suggest you learn some of our history before you post here. (I await your answer to my reply on the Shulamit Aloni thread !!)
