1. Good Refuge from IDF service-Your sons will be safe there!
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (12.03.09)
2. Israelis in Canada
Proud Israeli ,   Israel   (12.03.09)
Their children or grandchildren will marry non-Jews, something that is rare in Israel.
3. Follow Tayfun's advice
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (12.03.09)
All Jewish Israelis should move to Canada, America and Australia. Then Muslims such as Tayfun can turn this into a 23rd Muslim state. And the ONLY Jewish State will cease to exist. Fortunately most Israeli Jews will not run away to so called greener pastures. And 20,000 or more Canadian Jews like myself have actually left Canada and made aliya. Hopefully even more North American Jews will make aliya in the years to come offsetting those who run away.
4. No surprise there.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.03.09)
And many more Israelis will come to Canada as the quality of life is way better than in Israel.
5. How many were fake Jews who used Israel as a step
(12.03.09)
to the west?
6. Rich, the quality of life is better in Israel
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (12.03.09)
Rich, you made aliya and failed but not everone fails like you. In 1999 I made aliya. In Toronto I never could find a quality Jewish woman and I hated the lousy weather. Yet within my first year In Israel I was already married to a beautiful Israeli girl. My brother who stayed in Toronto is married to an Italian catholic. Now I have two Israeli born daughters. They have a much better life than my brother's two sons who will soon celebrate Christmas. As for my financial situation it is true that I made more money in Canada yet my expenses were more there. If I was in Canada I would need to pay thousands of dollars in synagogue dues and Jewish day school fees. Plus a house in Toronto is very expensive compared to the Golan. One last point the weather is sunny and a very pleasent 20 C. I hated the depressing Canadian weather.
7. Judah you will be soon in Syria, Will you stay or remigrate
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (12.03.09)
Golan Hights you posted as residential place is soon to be annexed to Syria as a Peace Gesture from Israel In fact Golan heights internationally not a recognized part of Israel but it is another occupied land Will you remigrate or stay there and became Syrian citizen soon?
8. israelis in canada
Mr Kool ,   The Holy Land   (12.03.09)
Actually, folks who leave Israel are generally "the losers" who cannot cut it or rec'd a bad social experience (unfortunately this can happen anywhere). As to quality of life, its very high in Israel.
9. above
moishe   (12.03.09)
question; were is one division of IDF? answer; residing in Toronto. Israelis are free to settle were they wish. they return in a crisis. stop Jewish guilt trip!
10. Tayfun, 7#, 42 years and counting
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (12.03.09)
There was 25 Jewish villages in the Golan 2,000 years ago. There was 15,000 Jews and a large community at Gamla. The Jews had a very good relationship with their neighbours in Lebanon and Syria. Tragically the Romans destroyed the Jewish communities in the Golan, The Jewish people have now returned to the Golan since 1967, thats 42 years and counting. Even if some crazy Israeli government would be foolish enough to give up the Golan I still would not move back to Canada. Instead I would relocate to the Galilee.
11. So what if Israelis live in Canada?
JPS ,   Efrat   (12.03.09)
Israelis, Egyptians, Syrians, Iraqis, Iranians, Indians, Pakistanis, Chinese, Africans, South Americans, Yankees, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese all live in Canada. So what? It means you get more ethnic restaurants, which I here are of good quality. And Rich, you obviously haven't been to Israel lately if you think the quality of life is better in Canada. I was in Toronto earlier this year and couldn't get change on the bus (every bus in Israel gives change), nobody hitchhikes in Toronto because it's too dangerous (men, women and children all hitchhike here), and people were afraid to go to some places downtown because they were "too dangerous"!!! In Toronto?!?!?!? I understand that there's a beach in Toronto but hardly anybody swims there, and that your electricity bills are sky high because the nuclear power plants are all overpriced and keep breaking down. Toronto? Bah! I think we're much better off here in Israel.
12. to #10 you right I saw the blue prints

Visited few of my friends in Toronto two months ago.Losers? Hmmm...doctors who are very successful.True, there are many Israeli losers all over the world, but many pros who is over qualified to find good and well paying work in Israel. As for Canada, one of the cleanest places on Earth. p.s.Had a luck to visit more than 50 countries.:-))
14. Matter of opinion
SRH ,   Canada and Proud   (12.03.09)
I never thought I'd see myself doing this, but it is time to defend Canada. It is as simple as this: as the joke goes, if moses didn't stutter, we'd be in Canada and not Canaan. Why is that? because canada is rich in natural resources, a beautiful country from coast to coast (minus the praries and toronto) and full of friendly people. I find Israeli's to be quite rude and cold despite the myth that they are "warm." I find Canadians to be far more willing to help if you ask a question to a stranger on the street and when it comes to service, it actually exists!! So I'm sorry that we don't give change on the bus, we try to make it easier for people by having them buy monthly passes or bus tickets or perhaps they should be smart enough to bring proper change. Housing is actually cheaper in most places in Canada than it is in Israel and well, there are simply more job opportunities, hence Israeli's coming to my beautiful country to work and to live. We have a responsible government that does not discriminate against 20% of the Canadian population and you are allowed to get a civil marriage instead of a mandatory orthodox wedding that is forced upon the Jewish populace of Israel. So, when it is all said and done, I'll take my goyishe Canada over Israel any day of my Gregorian week.
15. Leave people alone...
Meir Moses ,   Vancouver   (12.03.09)
Most Jews love Israel. Not all Jews choose to reside in Israel for many legitimate reasons - that does not mean we do not love Israel or support it or will never return or live there. The Jewish Community in Vancouver is growing. We are strong, we are united and we are made up of Israelis, Dutch, S. Africans, Australians etc. Please have some respect for us and our children. What is important is for us to love our fellow Jews and fellow men and respect their decisions. Stop sowing hate and embrace some more responsible discourse.
16. #1, You will be safe in Iran
Jake   (12.03.09)
when Istanbul will be re-dedicated as Constantinople.
17. Taufun, who cares what is recognized internationally
AK   (12.03.09)
After all, you Turks are squatters in the Byzantine Empire. Golan does not belong to Syria any more than Jerusalem belongs to Arabs. As a aside, would you be willing to live in Syria? Does anyone want to live in Syria? Does anyone want to live in Turkey, now that Islamists are in power?
18. # 6
Birdi ,   Israel   (12.04.09)
All the best of luck to you for making the right choice.
19. It's a race then, Tayfun
Cameron ,   USA   (12.04.09)
Will Judah suddenly awake to find himself residing in Syria first, or will you take the lead by finding yourself in Germany grubbing for work? A close race that. Not sure whom to make my bet on.
20. Tayfun, you crazy Turk, what's the good stuff you're smokin'
avraham ,   nyc   (12.04.09)
21. Canada vs Israel
RY ,   Israel   (12.04.09)
It is true that Canada has a very high standard of living and not too many problems. On the other hand, if a real JEWISH life is important to a person, then he or she would only want to live in Israel. Toronto and Montreal have big religious communities, but most other places in Canada do not and the intermarriage rate is high. I personally know several Russian families who left Israel to go to Canada. I was not unhappy to see them leave as the wives and children were not Jewish, and so it didn't bother me. No one in their families will still be Jewish in another generation or two anyway. I also know many secular families in Canada and almost all of them have intermarried kids and non-Jewish grandchildren. I made aliyah many years ago and love living in our own country, Israel. The Jewish future is here and no place else.
22. To #4.....
k ,   Canada   (12.04.09)
Keep telling yourself that...each person is secluded in Canadian society, no one cares about anyone or wants to be connected. People live like they're dead..nothing really happens. In Israel you could talk to anyone on the street like they're your best friend, since they share a common mentality, culture, religion, and don't live under a rock. Most Israelis move to Canada because they want to feel safe, but ask any of them and they'll tell you that they could only dream of having the kind of everyday life they've had in Israel with the weather, young and vibrant atmosphere, and the sense of unity.
23. Sorry SRH, you're wrong on several counts
JPS ,   Efrat   (12.04.09)
You're right on several counts too, but if you want to live in a Jewish community in Canada, housing prices are probably higher than they are in Israel. Sure, you can buy a cheap house in Kenora or MooseJaw, but it's a looooong way to walk to shul. And as for discrimination, well, sorry, but the Canadian government has a pretty poor record. The policy for admitting Jews in WW2 was "none is too many" (somebody wrote a book by that title). And the only reason goyishe Canada is nice to you know is that Jews (and blacks and natives and Asians and Frenc) suffered centuries of discrimination. Israeli is only six decades old, and the discrimination is indeed being addressed, but just like in Canada it takes time. And, by the way, the reason you have to be "smart enough to bring proper change" for the bus in Canada is because of the high rate of bus robberies - almost unheard of here in Israel. Stay in Canada and enjoy the water and the other vast and valuable resources. If you want quality Jewish life together with quality of life, we chose Israel.
24. Israeli immigrants? try Russian
Israeli in Toronto ,   Toronto   (12.04.09)
As a real Israeli, who is really temporary here (3 years fellowship and going back) I have to clarify and disagree with a couple of things. 1. Most of these "Israeli's" are not really Israelis. Sure, they have an Israeli passport, but it was just the fastest way to get out of Russia, settle down, make some money, get the Israeli benifits for immigrants, and move on to Canada. This was a transition via Israel, and they never really had an Israeli identity. 2. Nothing really changed in the way people in Israel think about those who leave. People maybe more politically correct and not communicate their feelings to those who leave, but when talking about these people in Israel behind their back it's not with tremendous respect. There is still the same diregard (justified or not). People who leave Israel, love justifying it by saying it's a different country nowdays, values have changed, education is different and so on. Well, everyone looks for someone else to blame. If you decided to leave don't find excuses, be a man and say, yes, living in Israel is to tough for me and to stressful and that's it. Don't throw mud back at those you left behind, because no other country made the amazing changes from a swamp into a pearl in 50-60 years. Sure, it's difficult, but every country has its' different difficulties. 3. My kids go to a Jewish Canadian school. They speak fluent English as I both my wife are from English speaking homes (American, British). Still, my experience is, that the Jews are very into helping, donating, traveling to Israel, reading their politics, keeping updated with the war situation. The only minor thing is - "They don't really like Israeli's ". These are my thoughts.
25. #7 Tayfun. Only in your dreams will Golan be Syrian.
Chaim ,   Israel   (12.04.09)
Tayfun, Only in your dreams will the Golan Heights be Syrian. Just like the defeated "Palestinians" will "soon" destroy Israel, take over our homes and loot our nation. It will never happen, though Arab demagogues have been promising it for generations. But if the delusion gives you pleasure, keep dreaming... Meanwhile, we'll continue to build Judea and Samaria. If you pass security clearance, maybe we'll allow you to wander around and pretend you're in fictional "Palestine".
26. the reason why
Eitan ,   Vancouver, Canada   (12.04.09)
I agree with the people who mentioned that Canada doesn't necessarily offer a better life quality comparing to Israel. I am not sure if offers better economical rewards, or much better personal safety, and certainly not such things as superior medical services. And for developing warm strong friendships Canada is not the best place. So what do I find better in Canada for myself? The freedom to live the way I want (which doesn't involve anything weird, by the way) without the constant flow of opinionated judgemental imprudent feedback about everything I might do or think or be loyal to, which is so heavily felt while living in Israel, and so effectivelly reminded me of here in the talkbacks. I served my military service in combat forces, plus few years of miluim, and I would gladly go back to help if the country is in crisis. There is absolutelly nothing you can really judge people like me for. About how Jewish my children are going to be - it's really none of your business, I can have very jewish children, or not so jewish children, or no children at all and you wouldn't even notice. About not adding to the Israeli population - would you then equally judge Israelis who are careless with their health, or who stay single or do anything else resulting in not producing children? Ironically, I believe that if Israelis were a bit less involved in other people's life and respect other people's choises it would become much more irresistable to leave, and maybe there would have been no need for this conversation.
27. To israeli in canda, the same in sweden
Michael Diamant ,   Haifa, Israel   (12.04.09)
What you described is the same in sweden and probably in most places in the diaspora. Still, non-russian israelis are life-blood for our communities and the swedish one should be very grateful. The stigma applies today to "immigrant-israelis" whom emigrate and not sabras. Israel is a hard place (mostly because of israeli behaviour) and behaviour is very nonwestern. sabras are half-barbarian in the perspecitve of diaspora jews. Still, second generation sabra israeli emigrants do very fine in the diaspora communities.
28. C'mon Eitan, you are just trying to rationalize your leaving
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (12.04.09)
In Israel I have freedom and so do my two young daughters. In Canada my aunts, uncles and cousins are constantly fighting and every Pesach there is always one relative mad at the other. Often this involves jealousy over who is making the most money and driving the most expensive car. My parents still live in Canada and I visit Toronto 2x a year. I took my 3 year old daughter swimming at my parents' condominium pool and the superintendant kicked us out because my daughter was having too much fun. One of their neighbours complained because my one year was crying at 4 in the afternoon. In Israel especially in the Golan my children go outside and play and hoot and hollar and noone ever complains. I do not care what car my neighbours drive and I doubt they care what car I drive or how big my house is . Eitan , just you try this experiment. Go to your local synagogue on Shabbat and do not wear a suit and tie. Then check out the nasty looks that you will get. Freedom is Israel. It certainly is not stuffy, stuck up Canada!
29. Fascinating commentary on this posting
Cameron ,   USA   (12.04.09)
A true weighing of the pros & cons of leaving Israel. Much is revealed here. Always like coming to this site to try and get a grasp of what is dwelling in the Israeli head (and Muslim head as well), and postings like this are a truly honest view. Good YNET topic this.
30. I don't need to rationalize
Eitan ,   Canada   (12.05.09)
Judah, you don't feel the way I do- great, you can do with your life whatever you like, and I wish you the best. I don't understand why you need to convince me that my life-choise is wrong and yours is right. My choise works for me , and since it doesn't affect you in any way, I don't need your approval. The funny thing is that I just explained why I chose to live where I chose, and you hurry to prove me wrong. The last time I got a criticism about my personal choises in Canada was... never. About the complaining neighbours and judgemental synagogues - I am glad that Israel is free of these things.
