Finally -- Israel warned the world several weeks ago that all prior "negotiations" would be off the table and a new chapter opened were the Palestine Authority to declare an independent state (Sweden cannot do it for them, after all) with East Jerusalem as its capital. Were the PA to do that, Israel has the option of doing what the Arabs did the day after Israel declared statehood in 1948. It is high time Israel annexed all of the West Bank and deported the Arabs living there to Jordan, country of their citizenship. Win - win situation. Get the Arab interlopers out of our country, and send them packing to their precious Palestinian state -- Jordan. Enough is enough.

The problem with this small but important change in EU policy it that the facts on the ground will not matter and could stop Israel from pushing out Muslims with more Jewish residents. Israel set a record in the last year of stripping Muslims of their E. Jerusalem residence so they become stateless and if the Muslims were smart they would file for dual citizenship, for both Israel and Palestine. The EU is not stupid but simply over looked many problems on both sides, now they are making a stand if it helps or hurts no one knows for sure.

Sweden wants - as temporary president of the EU - to make some public statements in order to distinguish herself - but do not forget that as of January 1st 2010 Spain will take over the role of presidency of EU, then on July 1st it will be Belgium etc...Each of those countries will also try to distinguish themselves by proposing ideas only to the benefit of the Palestinians. And here again I say - as I have said before - no foreign country should interfere with internal Israeli policies, not now , and not in future. If the Palestinians want to obtain what is on their wishing list they will have to fight for it.
