3. it wont solve the problems and it will cost a fortune

Having a biometric ID card isn't going to stop the problem with illegal immigration or terrorists forging ID cards. There is certainly a need for a new ID card the current one is a joke which any decent forger can forge without to much trouble. Better to issue a digital ID card rather than a biometric one. Digital cards can be set up using existing, affordable technology like the chip & pin credit cards. No need to set up and maintain an expensive biometric database. No need for expensive machines which will scan your fingerprints & eyes. Are we gong to be setting up a whole series of these things in every Misrad Hapanim around the country? The UK decided to set up a biometric database its cost so far around £5 billion. Its late and over budget because they are setting this thing up from scratch and its based on new technology. Opposition political parties are talking about canceling the program if they win the next election to save money. Does Israel have that sort of money to spend on an ID card? If the government said that we have all this money to spend would you like us to spend it on a really fancy biometric database so you can have hi-tec ID cards or would you prefer we spent it on schools? What about individuals actually getting their card. Right now it cost around 100 shekel for an ID card. Whats it going to cost us for a biometric card and considering its going to cost billions to set up the things will probably cost quite abit more than that. Don't forget families have limited budgets especially poorer families but everybody over 16 must buy themselves one of these cards.. A biometric database would be a goldmine to organized crime. All it takes is some rich gangsters and some crooked employees at the Misrad Hapanim and you can create a national disaster. Once the thing is set up how long before the government starts passing legislation allowing different government departments or local governments are given access to this database? Biometrics is very fancy and prestigious but its not needed, its going to be an organized crime magnet and problems like forgery can be solved with a chaper non biometric card.
4. RFID chips in the passports and drivers' licences and
Rivkah   (12.08.09)
the bank cards will do one thing for sure: make identity theft easier since the information can be lifted by an RFID chip scanner in a backpack as the thief walks by. So what do you do? Go to www.idstronghold.com and purchase foil folders for your passport and driver's license and credit cards (one for each) or buy a $99. spun steel wallet from Hammacher Schlemmer catalog. When the RFID chips are put into the hand or on the forehead as Nick Rockefeller of Arkansas says is what the elite want of the masses, then one will have to wear a metal hat and glove to prevent identity theft.
5. Adrs Change
Ron ,   Tel Aviv   (12.08.09)
I'll support it only if changing one's adrs at the Misrad doesn't take half a day.
6. No national id
Susan ,   Kfarsaba   (12.08.09)

He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. 18This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666.
10. ID cards are OK
israel   (12.08.09)
anything beyond that is a massive invasion of privacy - if someone has a criminal record an the government have their fingerprints on file and any pertinent information - that should be enough.
11. Yes big brother, I'll do anything you say.

15. The same day that Japan announced 'Fake fingerprint' problem
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (12.08.09)
Funny that Israel approves this on the same day that Japan admits that a "'Fake fingerprint' Chinese woman fools Japan controls" Look at this article to see how a Chinese woman had her fingerprints changed to fool Japan's biometric controls: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8400222.stm
16. To Israelis who are against - join the facebook fan page
Logic ,   Israel   (12.08.09)
Search for the "haetzbah" fan page in hebrew. The movement against this needs more supporters and is building a massive petition list. Also, thank goodness there's a Supreme Court in Jerusalem and hopefully this travesty will get scrapped there.
