Let consumers make their own decisions.
32. Brits need to start their brain before make speech
Dani ,   Amsterdam NL   (12.10.09)
28 and 29 they get it but if they like to hurt those they are supposed to help. With friends like this they do not deserve enemies. Just recognise Israel as Jewish state with all it's right and please don even mention Jerusalem as Palestinian capital.
33. Label everything "made in the world"
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.11.09)
No lies. no discrimination.
34. To Poster No. 1
Richard ,   USA   (12.11.09)
At least try to understand the article, before posting a comment. You write that "not many countries have been illegally occupying..." and so forth. The reference in the article, that "no similar move has been undertaken in any other country", refers to other countries to selectively label the manufacturing location of a product. Read first, make sure you understand the article, and comment only after that. Thank you, and regards.
35. Israel's many friends can load up on Judea/Samaria produce.
Chaim ,   Israel   (12.11.09)
When anti-Israel boycotters raised their racist ugly heads in Canada, Israel's many Canadian friends countered by buying every Israeli made product in sight. Retailers actually had extra Israeli products on stock during boycotts to handle the extra demand. If Israel agrees to the racist demand, Israel's many international friends should do likewise. Buy every Judea/Samaria product available and flood retail outlets with demands for more. Let's greet the evil racist boycotts with BUYCOTTS.

You took the words from my mouth. England is known for their horrible food, while in Israel the food is marvelous. The products in Israel are made with care and NEVER taste industrialized, they ALWAYS taste homemade. The food -processed and raw-in Israel is OUTSTANDING and all countries in the world should buy it more and more ,if their have mind , good taste and care for quality. Sincerely!!
37. I though the British had lost concious for good in 1948
Bro ,   Lebanon   (12.11.09)
It is a positive sign that the British start to regain their concious back. I believe this is the very first step in the 100,000 miles journey. I hope their second step will come sooner than their first!
38. You guessed it wrong !
#29 ,   Lebanon   (12.11.09)
Population of the world are completely different than their governments. Israel is extremely friendly and body body with the governments of the world due to blackmail but never friendly with the people of the world. No one agree to occupation or domination of others.
39. Do as I do.
Shlomo Kamra   (12.11.09)
Don't put anything or anyone Israli in your mouth. Easy!
40. When are the Brits putting Stars of David on these products?
avraham ,   nyc   (12.11.09)
41. #1 - "not many countries illegally occupying territory"
William ,   Israel   (12.11.09)
"Well gee I guess not many countries have been illegally occupying territory for the last few decades" We have China which has been occupying Tibet since 1950 Morocco is trying to annex Western Sahara which it occupied illegally for decades Iran still holds on to several islands belonging to UAE, and placed military stations on them Syria still refuses to denounce claims to Shaaba Farms which it stole from Lebanon in the 1950s. The UK has been illegally occupying tons of square miles all over the globe for centuries and the list goes on. Though Israel isn't too concerned with the labeling of our products, developed in settlements with both the sweat from Jews and Arabs. When Pro-Pal groups staged meager protests against markets that carried this produce, many UK shoppers admitted they would still buy it and thought it was great quality. Sorry to poo poo on your parade, Matty
42. So far, the response is one of non-concern
William ,   Israel   (12.11.09)
We have again, those who will rise to be "righteous gentiles". So far, many stores have declined to label their products, and those who do have some customers that just don't care. Products coming from Israel are pretty high quality and shoppers care about that, not eating rotten fruit to support a cause.
43. Product Labeling
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (12.11.09)
Perhaps all the medications developed in Israel should be labeled as well so that doctors could avoid prescribing them. British consumers should be warned that much of Microsoft’s software is made in Israel as well as the design in Intel computer chips so they should not use their computers. The Jewish people have the highest per capita science Nobel Prize winners in the world (122 Laureates) the Islamic world has 1 laureate. What is sense behind the Boycott fever, jealousy, religious fundamentalism or just plain unreasonable hatred?
44. Outright Lies
Adam M. ,   NY, USA   (12.11.09)
The British official who made this annoucement bolstered it with two out-and-out lies. 1. That the Jewish settlements are "illegal under international law" -- THEY ARE NOT. Let the Brit genius read the British Mandate -- it calls for "close Jewish settlement" of all that area. 2. "Settlements are an obstacle to peace". Why says so? When Israel pulled out all the Jewish communities in Gaza it brought more terrorism and war, not peace. It does not take a high IQ to recognize the real obstacle to peace -- but the Brit morons are not up to it.
45. Real occupation – UK style.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (12.11.09)
Half way around the world lies a fine example of British hypocrisy – the Chagos Archipelago, which London refers to as the British Indian Ocean Territory. Both Mauritius and the Seychelles have strong claims to it as their own, but that didn’t stop Britain from forcibly expelling all the inhabitants between 1965 and 1971 to make way for a military base it wanted to lease to the US. And though the Chagossians, as they are known, have repeatedly won court cases against the British government demanding their “right of return,” the Brits will have none of it, and have largely left the islands’ former residents to fend for themselves in exile. 50. A does of reality for the deluded here
Smith ,   TA, Israel   (12.11.09)
UK: GDP $2.6 trillion Israel: GDP $205 billion I.e. Britain's economy, even in recession, is 10 times bigger than Israel's Boycotting Britain is not something the Israeli government will adopt as a policy (as much as you might want her to) because economic warfare is not a game Israel can win. A British boycott of all Israeli goods & services would be crippling for Israel; and Israel would not be able to retaliate because an economic boycott on one EU member is asking for a retaliation from all EU members. That would ruin Israel's economy and turn this place into a third world country. So you should all be clear that this is a non-binding labeling recommendation on settlement products only and not on all Israeli products, which will no doubt become a growing trend eventually even in the USA should Israeli intransience continue. A full blown economic boycott on Israel (even by the UK alone) would destroy the Israeli economy in a matter of months if not weeks. Thank God that this is not what is happening as many of you seem to think. These are the hard facts and the brutal reality. Learn to understand the limitations of Israeli power and to live within your means and you'll be a happier person.
51. #50 Smith, thank you for the illuminating post
Nour ,   Palestine   (12.11.09)
It's very rare that i stumble accross common sense on YNET TB's. Your last sentance is food for thought. Away from politics, thank you for the hope that some people still use their brains.
52. Made in Palestine vs. Made in Settlements
Nour ,   Palestine   (12.11.09)
The Guardian article on this latest European action which will absolutely start a chain reaction in Europe! Hourray :) You got to love good news these days! http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/dec/10/guidance-labelling-food-israeli-settlements

They don't want one finger, they want the body and the soul. If remaining with nothing would be a solution,well...,then the whole world should remain with nothing as well. Understand what I mean?
56. labeling
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (12.11.09)
This really does not matter, and maybe is a good thing. People who support Israel will prefer to buy these products. Leftists and other anti-Israelis in any case won't buy any Jewish product, made anywhere in Israel.
57. Why don't ask Jews to wear a yellow Star of David too?
(12.11.09)
This move is RACIST. I didn't hear the Brits require Spain to mark products made in Basque Country. Or, for that matter, what about marking UK products originating in Northern Ireland, British Columbia or British Virgin Islands? These are COLONIES (i.e. OCCUPIED FOREIGN TERRITORY) I am so happy I have no business with UK and never had. As for visiting the Emirate of UK - NOT A CHANCE! The old British cultural and social might is gone down the Islamo-Leftist drain. Nothing to see there except for racist Muslims and anarchists, mixed with drunk and violent middle-class British Dihmis.
58. UK views anything over green line a settlement
jason ,   haifa israel   (12.11.09)
So UK will label settlement even if something comes from the jewish quarter in the old city. Where as if something comes from the muslim quarter in the old city it is labeled palestine. UK is taking sides over sensitive areas in the old city saying they are all palestinian including the western wall. Yet jews still vote for Liebour.
59. Truth and stupidity
Paul Usiskin ,   London UK   (12.11.09)
The government of the almost late Ariel Sharon signed a trade deal with the EU back when the Trade Minister was Ehud Olmert. The deal was that Israel would ensure that settlement produce was marked as such and that if it wasn't then the settlement found to be in breach of thy deal would be penalised by the EU. Sharon announced after the deal was signed that any settlement penalised would be compensated by the government. So much for Israel keeping its agreements. So now the settlements are illegal, and what they produce if not labelled according to Israel's deal with the EU, is illegal. All those usual suspects who shout "anti-Semites" had better remember that Israel's biggest trade market is the EU of which the UK is a member. It is rank stupidity to undermine our own trade agreements in this way. This is all part of Israel's refusal to be accountable and its catching up with us. What will you shout when the EU stops trade because we keep breaking our agreements with it?
