They have Hanukkiot in their Spanish store windows. Sure. And I have beachfront property in Kansas.

uli ,   kiryat ono   (12.14.09)
...countries of its branches. israel was just non existend. seems to be more than an "international" reason...
4. Christmas Trees
poppy   (12.14.09)
Quite rightly This is a Jewish Country and we celebrate Chanukah not Xmas I am sure Zara would not put Chanukah candles in the stores in Spain would they? The Spanish Catholics would have something to say.
5. Zara's
larry ,   Vancouver Canada   (12.15.09)
I am astonished at how us Jews can make a matza ball into a meat ball and who cares if a Christmas tree and not a menorah decorates a window. Hanukkah has been turned into this major j holiday and in reality it was and should be a minor festival.. Who cares about tress in a store window. I am much more concerned about Israels security , the release of the kidnapped solder and Iran. If you don't like the shop windows , if it is insulting to you, don't shop. Vote with your Shekels.
6. zara
(12.15.09)
when you decide to put a great big mennorah and hannuka decorations in your spanish, european and other stores, then you can have a say in what jews in israel want to see in your windows....and it is surely not a x-mas tree.
7. #5..I CARE. I DONT WANT XMAS IN ISRAEL,NEITHER DOES HASHEM

HOW COME NO KURANS OR NO MUSLIM HOLY SIGNS EITHER? give me a break,. zara, a christian spanish company, as antisemetic as spain itself. zara, put candles and dreidels in all your eu stores ,then you can compalin that jews in israel complain to you. miserable spaniards.
9. Chrismas Trees??????
Phoenix ,   Israel   (12.15.09)
Why should be Chrismas trees in an Israeli Store???? Zara are Idiots!!!! What the hell were they thinking?

11. #7 - Ever heard of tollerence for others
Avi ,   Israel   (12.15.09)
In case anyone has forgotten Haifa has a large christian population who celebrate christmas. 'shoppers were hurt by the sight of a christmas tree" Oh dear me , maybe they should get help , sensetive bunch obviously. So therefore i presume they support the removal of any signof Chanuka abroad as this might "hurt" peoples feelings there? Or will they just be screaming "anti semitism" ? I suppose the sight of a christmas tree, and the christmas message of good will and peace to all must offend their mentality. To the Israeli christians and visitors " a very happy christmas and a happy new year"

NYC Girl   (12.15.09)
Personally, I have no problem with stores in Israel having Christmas trees because there are Christians living in Israel and there's nothing wrong with showing respect for their holiday. However, what I do think is "nonsense" is the complete absence of any recognition whatsoever of Hanukkah. And even though Zara may be based in Spain, whatever happened to "when in Rome..."

Obviously, your point is well-taken. And, in the grand scheme of things, this issue of Zara's lack of menorahs is, pardon me, chicken shit. But I do think it speaks to a certain denigration of Israel, and perhaps even to Jews, in general, that's far too prevalent and makes it easier for some Europeans to talk about arresting Israeli politicians and military commanders, and boycotting Israeli universities. But boycotts certainly do work both ways. And, as you suggested, Israelis can stay away from Zara in droves...if they choose to.
14. Whoa - what a turn up for the books
Shalom Hartman   (12.15.09)
Only a few days ago, Talkbackers (and YNet) were ranting on about religious indoctrination because "the Rabbis" were not allowing Xmas trees in shop windows. Now - when it's the regular Joe in the street who is against this type of Xtian activity, it's suddenly not only ok but reason to boycott stores!
15. Christmas trees are not a religious symbol
Israeli grandmother   (12.15.09)
but a now well-recognized - originally European - decoration at the Christian holiday season. On the other hand the Hanukia lamp is a specifically Jewish religious symbol as it recalls the historic event of the rededication of our Temple after one of its historic destructions.
16. to #14 you don't know the true story behind
ghostq   (12.15.09)
zara ongoing dislike, I remember the swastica incident. this is just another step after they messed up in the past.
17. to #11 haifa the city started from
ghostq   (12.15.09)
small convant 500 years ago, and christmas tree isn't chritian symbol like the David star isn't jewis they r pagan symbols. and thank you happy new year will be soon 15 days from now. now it's just christmas, I got my budget, so much to do, I don't know if to some peopel just card is enough or that small thing need to be added, rrrrr tough one, lol you don't have that problam I reckon.
18. Tolerance and understanding
Audrey ,   Rehovot   (12.15.09)
You know it gets really tiring hearing the word anti-semetic being loosly thrown around... a pagan symbol shown in a shop window - wow - can someone explain to me how that is anti-semetic??? Do they have posters up telling people to murder Jews? - NO. Are they giving out leaflets saying that Israel should not be a Jewish state? - NO. Let's get a grip people and get some proportions. There are Christians living in Israel too and their holidays are not marked in any way - we are not talking about the government putting up a tree in the Knesset, so lets live and let live a little - remember that many of the christians living in Israel SUPPORT the Jewish State and believe it should exisit and are more active than many secular Jews in promoting the state..... sigh...
19. #7 I CARE TOO
Marina ,   Tel Aviv   (12.15.09)
NO DISCRIMINATION FROM PEOPLE LIKE YOU ABOUT WHAT THIS COUNTRY SHOULD REFLECT BACON AND EGGS IS LOVELY XMAS FOR CHRISTIANS IN ISRAEL MAYBE YOU SHOULD UNDERSTAND AND ACCEPT THE FACT THIS COUNTRY IS NOT JUST YOURS, IT'S MINE TOO, AND I AM NOT JEWISH!
20. Wouldn't shop there if it was free
Talula ,   Israel   (12.15.09)
Their clothes are made from man-made stiff fabrics. It's a shop for religious women - they have lots of long dowdy clothes there. I wouldn't want to smoke wearing anything from Zara their stuff all looks very flammable.
21. GET A GRIP PEOPLE!!!!!
steve hanoch ,   tel aviv, israel   (12.15.09)
Christmas icons are just more pleasant to look at. They are cheerful!!! I know that Jews are used to suffering for every holiday, but let's not forget that people of other religious backgrounds live here as well. BTW- Did you see the Louis Vuitton window in Kikar Hamdeina? Looks pretty F'ing Christmasy to me... any complaints?!!!
22. Zara in muslim countries wouldnt do it!
Erik ,   Sweden   (12.15.09)
Enough with the double-standards when it comes to Jews and Israel... Zara wouldn't even TRY this in it's chains in Muslim countries!
23. #10
(12.15.09)
have you forgotten that there are jewish and muslim citizens in spain? how come no one sees mennorahs and islamic symbols in any zara stores in spain? why doesn't zara, if it is so inclusive of all religions, ever display jewish and muslim symbols in any of its stores in europe ever? are there not jewsih and muslim shoppers in europe shopping at zara? tit for tat!. stop the nonsense.
24. #11
(12.15.09)
you misunderstand, sir. shoppers that were jewish were not hurt by the christmas trees. THEY WERE HURT THAT DURING THEIR JEWISH HOLIDAY OF HANNUKA, ONLY CHRISTMAS TREES WERE DISPLAYED IN ZARA'S WINDOWS, COMPLETELY IGNORING THE HANNUKA HOLIDAY. this is what upset them in israel, not the christmas trees. zara's lack of honoring the channuka at the same time that honoring christmas was all too evident in window displays. i am convinced israelis would have not minded a single christmas tree in any of zara's windows. what they were upset about was the complete lack of hannuka displays in a mostly jewish country where c hristians are a very very small minority. it is this blatant lack of fairness and respect for the country's traditions that angered most israelis in israel. hameed aboughaze, iranian
25. One Jewish country
Jew ,   Israel   (12.15.09)
We have one little Jewish country in the whole world: Let's keep it that way. I made aliyah years ago from the States and was so happy to come here and get away from all that Xmas stuff.
26. Franlky,without being confrontacional...
Keren ,   IL-BR   (12.16.09)
I would not permit in Israel this kind of chaines to be opened, unless the franchiser was a Jew and that he completely respected the character of the country. Israel has no reasons to be part of a worldwide pasteurized international makeup. We have enough of our own to be very original and appealing.
27. Jews, Xtians, muslums, so a menorah, an Xmus tree and the

Are you kidding me!???How many muslim countries did you visit??? with the exception of Suadi it is filled with christmas trees at christmas time. It is usually the case that people who never saw a muslim are the ones who claim to know more????!
