Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.15.09)
What a freaking idiot. She is lucky just to lose the laptop and not be sitting in a jail cell.
2. laptop
jb   (12.15.09)
Maybe the guards all used Mac's! Or maybe it was the pealing Arabic sticker that said, "Allah Akbar, death to the Jews" In any case, the guards better have a good explanation.
3. She had relatives in TA,but "knows nothing about Judaism"?
tt   (12.15.09)
the girls story does not add up as a whole.there are several messed up things about,..along with the obvious question of how she could not know a thing about Judaism. If she is Arab her tale is sticky.
4. Disgraceful conduct
Adam ,   Israel   (12.15.09)
This will be a PR disaster for Israeli tourism. Even Jews/Israelis will not be minded to travel if this sort of crap goes down.
5. Explosives?
Seth   (12.15.09)
I guess you could call a bullet an explosive...
6. i salute the border police
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (12.15.09)

7. strange,this is the first time I hear that a sapper
Yael ,   Ottawa, Ontario   (12.15.09)
would shoot a suspected object.
8. I would have done the same thing.
Efi ,   Baltimore   (12.15.09)
I worked Israeli Security in Eilat and Uvda Airport and you have to follow protocol. The girl is not the brightest. What person would put such stickers on her valuable work?
9. #1 Kyle
Marco ,   Spain   (12.15.09)
Re-read the article Kyle. The laptop was not left unattended and the luggage was left unattended but this was done as instructed by security.
10. #3 tt
Marco ,   Spain   (12.15.09)
Yes tt, she had relatives in Israel and but she is not Jewish. Is that so hard to comprehend?
11.  just do the same
Fair player ,   Egypt   (12.15.09)
when they come to Egypt . we are not surprised at all ...Here is why : ""they think everything is against them"" .....What an accurate description for you in the Quran ..1430 years ago ..
12. Well, I'd be suspicious of this one too. But still...
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (12.15.09)
It's sadly not unrealistic to think that a student with a Jewish name (Sussman) would know "nothing about" Judaism. But consider the following. Her blog entry lists a number of items that caught security's attention: "an Arabic phrasebook, a journal entry that mentioned a Palestinian(yes, they even flipped through my journal), stamps from Syria, Qatar and the UAE, Palestinians in Palestine guidebook". All this is enough to raise eyebrows. ISM activist? Jew only when it's convenient to bash Israel? Who knows before this matter is investigated. The fact that sappers do not use bullets to destroy suspicious packages is reason enough for that investigation.
13. stupid
BigJew ,   Haifa,Israel   (12.15.09)
Don't leave your bags unattended at any time in Israel. This is called Hafetz hashood. Many a bag has been blown up this way at malls, theatres etc. This girl is way too self important thinking that these soldiers wanted to harass specifically her. They did their job and are keeping us safe.
14. Never ascribe to malice that which can be attributed...
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (12.15.09)
...to stupidity. These guys like to shoot and blow things up. Years ago at BG airport the Ma'gav bomb squad trashed the inside of my car causing 800 shekels damage because I had some bags of clothes for charity in the back seat and they considered the car "suspicious". And no, the tax authorities said the car was 5 years old and would only pay the depreciated price for repairs: 300 shekels, leaving me to pay 500 shekels out of my own pocket for the new parts needed to fix the car. And yes I appealed but no, they rejected my appeal. I hope the bozos missed the hard drive so that she could recover her files.
15. security officer are often silly
dovdevan ,   ashdod,israel   (12.15.09)
we can check someone who we think might be supect without those kind of behaviour it is not the first time that i hear that kind of story ! sometimes they decide to take your mobile or they decide that someone they find suspect cannot take the flight ok if they think that 's the men is a potential terrorist if not let him go
16. Whoever does this to a MAC is a nutcase!
(12.15.09)

Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.15.09)
And you have never heard of a "chefetz chashood"?
18. so they thaught it was a bomb... and they shoot at it?
(12.15.09)
what is this, bizarro logic?
19. to Yael #7 - not strange at all
Moshe ,   Tel Aviv   (12.15.09)
This is how they blow up suspicious objects these days - the sapper uses a robot, which accurately fires bullets into the suspicious device
20. It pays to be ignorant
The Last Zionist ,   Eilat   (12.15.09)
Great reality show the back talkers continue to spout their preciouses and lack of knowledge.
21. This is assimilation...
David ,   Norway   (12.15.09)
A girl named "Sussman" (sounds Jewish to me), loves Egypt and Arabs, and knows nothing about Judaism...
22. Boy, I am so lucky...
just me ,   world   (12.15.09)
that they just asked me to turn on the macbook last time I entered Israel instead of shooting it straight away (these things are very expensive and contain all your personal data...) Israeli security officers take their jobs way too far sometimes... 18yrs. olds feeling great cause they are given power over others for the first time in their lifes after their officers probably just made an idiot out of them... humankind can be disgusting sometimes... give a person power over others and he will abuse it...
23. OOPS!!!
John Carey ,   San Francisco   (12.15.09)
The actual hard drive (information) is located in the lower right hand side (behind that sticker).
24. Unless
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.15.09)
Ms. Sussman had the laptop in her possession twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week (wide awake at all times), she has absolutely no idea what might be installed on it, right? She didn't have to lose her "work." She could -- no, she should -- have dumped it to CD or a memory stick. Sorry, no sympathy here. Computers have a great many uses, some of them nefarious. The border police were doing exactly what they are supposed to do. All the fault lies with Ms. Sussman.
25. Too bad they didn't actually KILL any of the data!
TJ ,   New Jersey   (12.15.09)
The hard drive is in the bottom right corner on that model (where there isn't bullets!) FAIL!
26. Hopefuly they will buy her the best laptop in the world
Galut ,   Selah   (12.15.09)
and hopefully she had online backup......but if she didn't....ouch

sussman, her family name IS A JEWISH NAME. moron!
29. Better a dead laptop than a dead person, eh?
(12.16.09)
30. part of a story
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (12.16.09)
I'm with those who said there is more to this story. Israeli security gets no pleasure in destroying property. BUT anyone who lives in Israel or travels to Israel has a right to be safe. If being safe means that Ms. Sussman has to buy a new laptop--so be it. BTW there is always a second side to the story. Let's not get all chocked up and teary eyed over only one side. Obviously we will not get the real reason the security personnel found her suspicious--she won't admit it here--easier to moan and groan and try to get sympathy with 1/2 a story
