The shihab can already reach Israel & the military bases so I don't think Israel has to worry about the increased range. Air strikes are the only options left. We have been allowing Iran to play the world for fools for the past 6-7 years with delaying tactic after delaying tactic and sanction after sanction. Russia & China will never allow sanctions that are going to do real damage to Iran because they do to much trade so they will use their Security Council vetos. Individual states can use national sanctions but that won't have muscle because we have been doing that for years. Iran will also defy any sanctions no matter how painful on a moral ground .. not let anybody bully them. Air strikes are the only viable option The US has at least 2 carrier fleets in the Gulf already armed with Tomohawk cruise missiles and along with their airbases in the GUlf access toover 100 fighters & bombers. Without putting a single troop on the ground they could destroy the entire Iranian military infastructure everything from the navy, a llarge part of the airforce, missiles and of course nuclear facilities. At the very least Obama should untie Israels hands let it try, there is also a deadline because as soon as Iran gets its hands on the S300 air defense system pretty much everything but a stealth jet will be unable to defend itself. An ideal solution would be for the US to LOAN Israel some of its now retired fleet of F117 stealth jets and as they are passed the 20 year export limitations limit it may have been possible to get it through Congress. It could be justified as a sale or loan to protect Israels own air defenses until the F35 is delivered. not for offensive purposes. With a stealth aircraft for a first strike to destroy air defenes & missile sites it would be possible for F15 & F16 to finish the job. Done like that Israel has a serious chance of getting the job done.
