31. Iranian aircrafts
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (12.18.09)
I do not know anything about UAE air force, but what I do know is that Iranian aircrafts crashes regularly. Iran has a shortage of spare parts so their planes lacks maintenance.
32. and what about Iranian missiles?
doubt   (12.18.09)
mr petraous????? what would you do if Iran attacks Israel with Sajjil 2 solid missiles???? and if Iran has the nukes?????
33. UAE Air Force is more advanced than Iran's
W. ,   Beirut, Lebanon   (12.18.09)
UAE's AF inventory includes 79 Block 60 F16's besides 68 upgraded Mirage 2000. In addition UAE pilots gets the best of training available at Western academies and through exchange programs. Whereras, their Iranian counterparts fly, when spare parts are available, outdated Mig 29s and F14s, unless you think that the Iranian developed Saeqeh is a real fighter!! So, why many readers are so dubious about Gen Petraeus' logical statement????
34. #14 Biggest Threat to the World is the American Waist line!
Nour ,   Palestine   (12.18.09)
You launch personal attacks on Wael because apparently allergic to the truth! Your dirty games around the Middle East are now fully naked, no need to window-dress anything dear. The war on Iraq was illegal (not to mention immoral and criminal). The war on Afghanistan: Everyone knows you attacked the Taliban after they refused to hand you Bin Laden without evidence that he perpetrated the alleged crimes... Now that your waist line has reached unprecedented dimensions, have caused the Earth unimagineable havoc, you attempt to distract us all from the real issues by crying out "IRAN" ? Is Iran occupying other nations lands? Is Iran stockpiling nuclear weapons? Does Iran murder innocent women and children? Attack other countries illegally with fake evidence about fake WMD? Bomb families during their beach picnic? You have some nerve! The whole world knows who the REAL threat is so stop with your cowboy tactics we are FED up with your wars and vested interests.
35. Do not take his words lightly
Logic ,   Israel   (12.18.09)
He is the one who reversed the Iraqi quagmire into a US victory with the surge.

Avi Sterberg ,   US   (12.18.09)
Uhm, the same IDF that couldnt take South Lebanon after 30 days??? The whole MIddle East, I doubt it. Times have changed...The US with an army of 150000 still cant control Iraq.
37. #12 You're Right
W. ,   Beirut, Lebanon   (12.18.09)
Israel with its superior technology and might couldn't win against an inferior enemy armed with primitive weapons when compared to those of IDF, back in 2006!!!!!!
38. #36 Avi what war WAS won in 30 days?
Rob ,   Orangevale USA   (12.19.09)
How old are you Avi? 10-11? Who has ever won a "war" in 30 days? You should shut up till you are old enough to drive. Avi "the US army of 150,000 couldn't control Iraq" We didn't go there to "control" Iraq Avi, we went there to kick Saddam's ass. Mission accomplished. Fact: we controlled anywhere we wanted to control. The Iraqis can't even control Iraq . Now go do your homework. Rob

biggest threat are the muslems & idiots like you...all muslem states you mentioned killed & kills to this day inocent women & children....get a life and a country.....!! there's no palestine...!!! it's called Israel!!!
40. W. @ 37, yes, you are right.
leo ,   usa   (12.19.09)
I hope next time Israel will be worrying more about achieving its military goals and killing enemy rather than about avoiding collateral damage. Israel must stop wasting money on precision munitions. Waking a fly with a sledge hummer does job too.
41. #40 leo
Marco ,   Spain   (12.19.09)
Israel avoided collateral damage in 2006? Are you serious? All Israel did in 2006 was "collateral damage", while all Hezbollah did was hunt down Israeli soldiers.
42. "secret weapons"
Bill ,   USA   (12.19.09)
The F177 and B2 were revealed to the public in 1989...they were around a decade old by then putting them at nearly 30 yrs old now. Who knows what else is under wraps. As for Israel she is thought to have 200+ nuclear weapons. The majority are probably neutron weapons which can be used for close strikes while limiting fallout. The other sides best weapon is terrorism and martyrdom. If it becomes an existential war the martyrdom can be accommodated.
43. Iranian Air Force threatened
Rodney Dezarn ,   Fayetteville, USA   (12.20.09)
The comments by General Petreaus could be possible if Iran were alone. The strategic alliances now in play guarantee that if Iran moves, Turkey, Syria, and quite possibly Russia will move with them. It seems the United States is playing a war of words yet will never commit to battle against Iran, knowing it would effect their European partners, most of whom are N.A.T.O. members. It is a shame when well respected career military leaders have to stoop to this level using war as a pretext to secure petroleum and the illicit narcotics trade for their wealthy puppeteers in power.
44. The paper hyena you're afraid of
Thomas ,   Berlin, Deutschland   (12.21.09)
"Iran air "farce" is a paper hyena" that's why you're so afraid of them and try with ALL methods to make them do THE SAME STUPIDITY like Saddam: to destroy there own weapons. Saddam destroied his 150 SCUD-missiles. Wonder what they could have done to renovate the architecture in Tel-Aviv, on the day of the Coallition's attack in 2003. Let the propaganda and start thinking. You think like the Arabs as they attacked you on Yom-Kipur. Don't wonder if you get your a.. beaten. Just an exemple: the Doppler-RADAR on the OLD F-14 is 2 times BETTER than any RADAR on your F-15 or F-16. 200 marine-miles range + russian-copy of the AIM-54-missile.. This is AWACS enought.
45. 12 hours :-)
Thomas ,   Berlin, Deutschland   (12.21.09)
It won't take 30 minutes to cut in two Israel by Hadera. You are now like the big-mouth- rabbit in the bar, that provoques the wolf and the fox to come outside to fight...(with his best friend the big bear waiting out). Without that big grizzly called USA, you wouldn't open your mouth there, Itzig!
46. More Blah, Blah, Blah!
Friend Of The World ,   Florida USA   (09.13.10)
I refuse to believe that this general is so naive. Iran's military doctrine at this time is not centered on "air superiority". It don't matter if you attack them using space ships or Sopwith Camels. The munitions and ordinance have to reach their intended targets or else the mission is a failure. That is Iran's focus for air defense, and that is to neutralize the ordinance in mid air using a variety of rapid response missile and auto gun systems as a "point defense" strategy. The Iranians aren't stupid. They are well aware that there isn't much they can do right now to prevent the violation of their air space by advanced air forces. I suspect that too will change pretty soon though. Deterrence in the form of a formidable ballistic missile fleet, and the possibility of having to confront the Iranians who will use unpredictable asymmetric warfare tactics on land and sea, seem to suggest that the US military, and Israel are pretty convinced that it is a bad idea to attack Iran. This is all about bolstering imperialistic ambitions, big egos, and the all mighty dollar. Just look at all those weapon sales to Iran's neighbors. But at the "end of the day", it'll be Iran who will be standing.
