I did take the trouble of reading all posts yet none of the rabid pro-Israel posters have adequately answered the question as to why Israel is getting free money (handouts of US$ 3 billion annually) when it clearly doesn’t need it. Israel’s economic rankings are: 1) 42 in the GDP global listing 2) 27 in the GNI/PPP global listing It is akin to a ‘well to do’ person getting social welfare when they have a job. Even if Israel has to spend 75% on American goods that still equates to 75% free money. As no one else can answer my question I’ll answer it myself: Israel gets a free handout of approx 3 billion annually because it is a client state of America. The yearly handout gives America a stake in Israel’s sovereignty/independence. The reason America give this free meal is simply because America wants to maintain its ‘asset’ in the ME. Personally I think the money could be better spent on more worthy causes.

Obama signed it but the increase in military aid was a result of negotiations between Bush & Bibi when he was finance minister. Israel would get increased military aid ( a subsidy to the US arms industry ) and in exchange Israel would no longer receive financial aid from the US. This little deal is good for the US taxpayer. Military aid has to be spent in the US & its nothing more than a kind of buy 1 get 1 free offer. The aid is only part of the money Israel spends every year on US arms ( paid for by Israeli taxpayers ) As Israel gets a chunk of its annual military budget from the US its tied into buying US weapons. Another condition of aid is Israel spends the bulk of its annual military budget in the US. Also its given the US a veto over who Israel can sell its own weapons to and because its no longer financial viable Israeli companies don't develop some things they otherwise would have done and it would have competed with US products on the export market. The US gets much more out of military aid than Israel does. As for the money going to the palestinians that is coming directly out of the pocket of the US taxpayers.

75% of the money must be spent in the US on US companies employing US workers. That translates to a $2.1 billion jobs program for the US. That's why. It has little I think to do with Israel.
