1. "20 menorahs throughout the city"
Erastus CoupeDeVille ,   Ong's Hat, NJ USA   (12.23.09)
then there must be almost 2000 crosses throughout the city. The things one learns...
2. history of Chisinau
mordechai taub ,   jerusalem   (12.23.09)
Many Western Jews trace their ancestor's departure from Eastern Europe to the pogroms in Chisinau. It is incumbent upon the current residents to learn their history. I would sugest that they take an example from the Germans and be especially vigilent against anti-semetic incidences.
3. Jewish cult???
Ilana   (12.23.09)
Jewish cult books??? So then Jesus was a member of cult?? So the old testament is a cult book??

6. cult lrony
motti ,   bet shemesh   (12.23.09)
we live in confused times. isn't it ironic that the article on a jewsh website quotes Jews as being a Cult, yet Ynet allows ads for a vide right below selling the church of scientoligy.
7. Hating Jews is hating Jesus's ancestry.
Stefanie ,   Germany   (12.23.09)
what a shame to do such things in the name of christianity... It will take decades to free easten Europe from this middle age primitiv hatress towards Jews. Jesus was a Jew so hating Jews is hating Jesus's ancestry.
8. according to jesus' own words, they're not followers of him

9. TOLERANCE- christian europe & south american style!!!!
Jae ,   lynn US   (12.23.09)
Wow, they have no clue what Jesus represented. They worship the church and the ideals of hatred. negativity/sinfulness, seriousness, intolerance, sewlfishness and hatefulness. The benevolent God is sad some people twist his worship into death worship

12. Victory over non-Jews?
Miransky ,   Alabama US and A   (12.23.09)
What has this priest been smoking--incense? I am incensed! We are a cult? And he says the display was inappropriate in that it celebrates a victory of Jews over non-Jews. Rather, Jews over pagans and idolators. Or does this idiot priest identify more with idolators than with his own religious predecessors? What else does one expect in Moldova, site of many Christian victories over Jews. A curse on them!

Eyal ,   USA   (12.23.09)
there are who think they are Christians. 1. Jesus was Jewish - not a Christian cult 2. The Jews have taught the Christians cult the Bible 3. Old Testaments = Jewish 4. New Testaments = Jewish 5. Democracy = Jewish (started from Abraham) 6. Wanna be Christians = Brainless

to be Jewish to hate ha-bad. What does one expect from a country that welcomed some many nazi criminals after WWII? Anyone remember juan peron and eichman?
18. to #17
Mike ,   Atlanta USA   (12.24.09)
Peron welcomed everyone. Unfortunately, he welcomed Nazi refugees among the masses who emigrated to Argentina. But remember, it is for his generosity that Buenos Aires houses the third largest Jewish community.
19. Judaism is not a cult.
vered ,   israel   (12.24.09)
Judaism existed over 2000 years before Christianity did. And more than that before Islam. Without Judaism there would not be Christianity of Islam. However, Chanukah is not a major holiday for us. Christimas is the holiday for Christians. There is no reason why we have to equalize andn compete here. I do not say to be ashamed of being Jewish, but we too have to exercise tolerance for other religions, and really, we are in the minority. We do not have to hide, but we also don't have to compete for public display.
20. i find it very interesting
(12.24.09)
that this ignorant and antisemitic chirch would call the jewish religion A CULT. so, any religion except christianity is, according to this stupid and ignorant church, a CULT??? russian orthodoxy is the ultimate of cults. "hannukah symbolizes the victory of jews over non jews"??? according to "the CULT BOOKS OF JUDAISM". HAHAHA! where were you born, idiotic priest??? don;t you know that this "cult" called judaism gave you the tennents of christianity today? and gave birth to christianity as well? don;t you realize that jesus was born a jew and lived as a jew? stupid ignorant church. pagan and barbaric. at your hands, millions died, both jews and non jews. and you have the right to talk??? how many murderous cults have you orthodox church foisted on the world. such as the inquisition for example??? idiot! do they live in our time or in the middle ages, those barbaric people. hameed aboughaze, iranian

remember mike. jews do not need generosity any more. they have a country to which to turn to to escape these miserable people. this is why israel is a must...because this hatred will forever continue even in the coming centuries. jews have a political represenation now, a country, an asylum and a safe haven. none of them must rely on the generosity of other presently. they are a free people with a free country. those that choose to live in other countries must be respoected, not "tolerated". everyone has the right to a life free of hate, free of antisemitic hateful feelings and free to prosper and live in a country even if all that country is christian. hameed aboughaze, iranian

you, unfortunatelly have a galut mentality. a diaspora mentality. a ghetto mentality. who said that jews in any country compete to have their displays of religion. i do not find that jews have this intention at all. what is the matter with you? how can you begrudged a jewish community the display of what is important for them in any holiday, major or not. this is what every religion does. muslims build mosques and minarets by the thousands. christians have millions of christmas trees all over the world, and yes, hundreds in israel as well and it is a jewish country. i do not see anyone in israel smashing christmas trees, churches and christian symbols....except for the muslims of course when it comes to their christian arab brothers, which they despise and are violent towards by burning their churches and often murdering them and persecuting them. i do not see one jew ever smashing a christian symbols. none! what is wrong with having a mennorah in public display even if there is only one jew in a christian country. are christians and tyhe church so insecure that they can't tolerate one mennorah or two? who is competing?? why be ashamed of what you must be proud of? why act in fear and try to hide your religious displays from the christians in hopes of not upsetting them? the church was not upset for one single menorah. it was upset because they can;'t tolerate jews. they hate them in moldova. and this is the basic reason this happened. no matter if jews are a minority or majority. this should never have happened even if there were thopusands of mennorahs on display. it shows the church as antisemitic, pure and simple. hameed aboughaze, iranian

but we too have to excircise tolerance for other religions... vered, since when did the jews in moldova not show tolerance for others' religions? tell me how did any jew in moldova not show tolerance for christianity? even if jews are in the minority, they still showed more tolerance for others than this church showed for them.
24. #7 - You Are Correct!!
Christy ,   Boston, US   (12.24.09)
Not only was Jesus Jewish, his apostles were as well. The first century church owes it's birth and its spread to Jews. The Christian scriptures were written by Jews. Jesus stated that His mission was to the Jews first, gentiles got grafted in. A gentile begged Jesus for some 'spiritual crumbs' from Jesus' table because He told her His mission was first to the House of Israel. The apostles were at a loss, and had a debate about, what to do with gentile believers. Many of the first apostles (all Jewish) wanted gentiles to convert to Judaism before they could be Christians. They had quite an argument about it amongst themselves.
25. The "C Word" - Cult
Christy ,   Boston, US   (12.24.09)
I'm not surprised these people use this word. It's a word used out of ignorance. I have read Jews use the word Cult, and worse, when referring to Christians. It's actually never bothered me to read Jews call Christians a Cult or Pagan worshippers, or whatever. I put it down to ignorance. Jews should also view people who refer to them as a Cult as ignorant people.
26. #4 - Yes and much else
Christy ,   Boston, US   (12.24.09)
What the Moldovans have done, in Christ's name, is horrible. Christ never taught His People to act this way. This is man's doing. As a Christian, I question how many of these people really know and follow Christ. Their actions don't indicate they do. They should be ashamed and repent. If these people were really Christians, they would not have acted this way. They have acted contrary to Christ's teachings. Unfortunately, when you have religion and state intertwined, you end up with a lot of nationalists doing things like this and claiming their deeds are because they're Christian.
27. WEll I am frmo Moldova
Emil ,   Newport RI   (12.26.09)
I am from moldova, and I can tell you there are retarded people everywhere. Not all people in Moldova are like that. They didn't do it for any high ideals or anything like that. I would also like to appologise as a Moldovan to all of you.

H.R. Morgan ,   Saginaw, USA   (03.06.10)
Hanakah is about Jewish victory over non-jews ? That explains the whole thing.
29. smashing menorah's
Fr. Andrew ,   Saginaw, USA   (03.06.10)
Sounds like a punk rock band - you all need to get jobs, you have too much free time on your hands ! There are more important things to worry about like Haiti. . .and the people dying in Afghanistan.
