1. Where is the comparison?
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.28.09)
Do they really equate two murderers, who lay in the dark and killed someone on his way home, to a soldier fighting on the front line in a war? Do they really equate the way Israel treats Arab terror prisoners, who have had the chance of a trial, who get fed till they are fat, are allowed to further their education, have family and red cross visits, with how Gilad Shalit is being held? Do these people actually know what = means? No We are not dealing with normal people.
2. Hamas won't dissappoint us-in bringing more terror
S ,   Brooklyn,NY   (12.28.09)
T E R R O R I S M = H A M A S= V I O L E N C E. It's simple.
3. "They don't treat us the way it treats Israeli prisoners"
William ,   Israel   (12.28.09)
That's because Israeli prisoners do not kill scores of civilians and try to undermine the State. They don't join terrorist organizations nor call for a genocide. Arabs do! And further - if you're citizens of the State of Israel, and you join groups that aim to destroy the State, you DESERVE a life sentence. Notice that Arab criminals who kill do not get life sentences - only those who are barbaric and demand Israel be destroyed. You can make a choice - you chose poorly. If life sentences have their limits, please explain where? Many serving life sentences all over the world serve much more than 26 years in jail. Israeli Arab prisoners are an internal matter, not meant for a Hamas swap. This puts their loyalties in a different place. However, if they are to be included, they must be exiled to Gaza or overseas - a heavy price must be paid for their inclusion in dealings with a terror group.
4. Nausea
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.28.09)
"Nadim Younis, the two's younger brother, urges both Hamas and the Israeli government to 'release Gilad Shalit and release our prisoners.'" Rather nervy of them, isn't it, putting Gilad Shalit -- who did not commit a crime -- in the same sentence as the assorted murderous terrorist scum imprisoned in Israel. "My brother has been in jail for 26 years. Even a life sentence has its limits – it's like that all over the world. It's only here that we're treated differently… if this is a democracy than the law should apply to everyone equally." Quite true. A life sentence does have its limits: it comes to an end when the prisoner dies. The Younis family should count itself blessed that the death sentences initially imposed were commuted to life in prison. "Life in prison" means exactly that. Nauseating people, the Younis family.
5. Will Israel hand Hamas a great victory ?
Marcel ,   Florida   (12.28.09)
At the rate Israel has been falling it's very possible. Look at how FAR DOWN they have gone down since Entebee. They didn't even try to defeat Hamas in Gaza and now the stupid Israeli leaders hold talks on giving up 1000 for 1. I have one dollar to give you for your 1,000 dollars stupid people.
6. prisoners
(12.28.09)
The word "prisoner" chosen by the author of the article is either a bad translation from Hebrew or incorrect. The men discussed in the article are "convicted murderers".
7. we must stop taking prisoners
Itzik ,   Arad   (12.28.09)
they cost us money, they tempt hamas to kidnap our soldiers and civilians. We need to respect Islam and help terrorists and murderers of Jews achieve martyrdom and get their 72 virgins As my cousin in teh US Marines says "waste them all and let God sort them out"
8. If I was the mother or father of a murderer, I would want my
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.28.09)
child to come home, rest up and prepare to kill even more Jews. There is a saying, "Want in one hand and poop in the other and see which one gets full faster." Redeeming Shalit with murderers who will kill again is the State of Israel executing innocent Jews.
9. Maher and Kareem Younis - no sympathy for them
JPS ,   Jerusalem   (12.28.09)
However, the goal is to get Shalit home. I am in favor of freeing these two convicted slimeballs. They are Hamas members and lower than disgusting as human beings. I have no doubts about Hamas: their goal has been and continues to be the death and destruction of Israel and all Israelis whether military or civilian. Hamas is guilty of sickening atrocities, and Maher and Kareem Younis are just two cogs in the Hamas machine of death. However, I am willing to let them go in exchange for Shalit. I also believe that after the exchange Israeli should immediately impose a total zero tolerance to attacks by Palestinians, be they Hamas, Fatah or other groups. Every suicide bombing should be retaliated with the destruction of the bomber's house and even the entire neighborhood. A kassam rocket will be replied to by a volley of howitzer shells into palestinian neighborhoods. Mortar fire will similarly be responded to. If the Palestinians want war, then there is no such thing as "disproportionate response" - a meaningless invention of the political correct movement whose goal is to reward terror and restrict attempts to bring peace through military means (remember that WW2 used military might to bring peace to the world).
10. " Even a life sentence has its limits"
Bernard ,   Brooklyn USA   (12.28.09)
What a target-rich article this is! So much to write about, so much to analyze, so much to rip apart. Lets see, lets see, where shall we begin? OK, the "life sentence" issue. Thats a rich term, isn't it? Is there a different word /term in Arabic for "life sentence"? Is there a translation issue here? What EXACTLY do they NOT understand about the concept "life sentence" for a murder? Or rather, what DO they think it means? Oh, oh, I know! There is no such term in Arabic/Persian whatever! I see. Yes, yes, its a real cultural-gap issue, Democracy vs Islamics. OK, NOW I get it. OK, lets move on...
11.  Is Israeli Political Law superior to Civil Law
Roland Seener ,   London England   (12.28.09)
Yigael Amir cannot be included in a prisoner exchange. He has no leverage. And Sami Kuntar makes a mockery of his lengthy incarceration,.Madoff is serving 150 Years in jail, and he didn"t kill anybody.I hope others can point out to me the fault in my argument, that a life sentence must be served to the full, and should not be warped by political considerations.viz a viz the Israeli Government and the Hamas prisoner exchange
12. Dear Nadim,
David ,   Hartford USA   (12.28.09)
Had your dear brothers NOT conspired to murder this lone soldier, they would have been home for the last 26 years enjoying life, raising families, etc. But they CHOSE to murder this lone soldier! What brave Palestinian men you have in your family! No, your pathetic brothers will spend the rest of their pathetic lives in prison. Did your father tell his boys to do this? Your Imam? Did they get this hateful idea into their heads by themsleves? You think about what happens in your family that would make your brothers act so murderous. Israelis love life and happiness- your brothers love death, and now they are paying for it- for the rest of their lives. Israel will not release convicted murderers. Period. If they had any sense, they'd enact the death penalty and rid the earth of them once and for all. Sorry Nadim, your concern is misplaced. Your brothers' fate was sealed when they murdered the lone soldier. They'll rot in prison now, rot in hell later- just what they asked for.
