1. Abbas days short, Barghouti likely better choice than Hamas
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (12.29.09)
Abbas is too weak to continue to lead PA, Barghouti maybe the only one right now who could control both radical PA groups and Hamas. Israel would prefer a weaker leader but that could be more dangerous if Hamas gained more power.
2. Terrorists should be treated as war criminals.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (12.29.09)
By exchanging prisoners with the terrorists as if they were law-abiding states, Israel can be seen as upgrading the status of the unlawful combatants from terrorists and war criminals, giving them the same rights as lawful soldiers, without demanding from them the reciprocal obligations. At the same time, Israel downgrades the rights of its own captured soldiers by overlooking the organizations’ systematic depravation of POW rights for Israeli soldiers under the Geneva Conventions. The damage this does to both international law and the international criminal justice system is considerable. More at : http://xrl.us/kj6sj
3. Diskin is talking nonsense
Chris P. ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.29.09)
If there's something that Israel fears, it's a strong Palestinian leader. You prefer the weak type, so you can continue the occupation and make excuses that there is no strong partner on the other side. Lieberman already explained Israel's strategy for a "temporary solution" for the next 20 years. For this you need to maintain a weak Palestinian leader. Barghouti is the type of leader that can unify the Palestinians and show the world who's really against peace.
4. to #1 the thing is if he will break his paroll
ghostq   (12.29.09)
the duck season will begin. as long as he is prison no harm can be done to him but.. once he is outthere I am preaty sure the lazer target will be put to use.
5. Barghouti
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.29.09)
Actually, I don't think there is much difference between any Palestinian candidate for leadership -- the faces may change but the politics really do not. Let's face it: "moderate Palestinian" is an oxymoron. Wouldn't it be simply awful if something terrible were to happen to Mr. Barghouti in prison?
6. Why is Bargouti still alive? It is time to change this
Yehuda ,   Lod   (12.29.09)
This mass butcher of Jews should have been "Eichmanned off" years ago.
7. 1 - terrorist #2 is better than terrorist #1?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (12.29.09)
i don't think so. i prefer the terrorist that is at least open about his aims to kill me than the one who pretends that he doesn't. may barghouti rot in jail since israel was kind enough to him to not kill him as he deserved.
8. to #3 this man killed innocent Israelis
ghostq   (12.29.09)
by planning sucide bombing it's not a Q of stron or week.
9. #7- Israel did try and kill him.
Yossi G. ,   Jerusalem Israel   (12.29.09)
Much to my chagrin he barely escaped by the skin of his teeth although I think someone travelling in the same car was killed.
