3. In SA Whites were far UNDER 10%..Where's APARTHEID analogy?
Alan ,   SA   (12.30.09)
Its a joke how Pals and their friends trying to make an Apartheid equation in Israel . In SA- Whites were always well below 10 % of population... So it means Arabs with 20 % of Israels Population are trying to do the same trick as SA Whites did but with 20 % -ie not much more ... It seems that it is the Arabs who want to make an Apartheid regime with 20% like SA Whites did with 10%.

Israel also adopted Muslims like the Bahise who came from Iran got amazing Gardens, and there r Chircasians Muslims who run away from the Turkish massacre. so go do homework.

Israel Arabs and Pals talking about Israel is APARTHEID STATE like SA was when they are only 20% of Israel population!!!!... It is the ARABS that are trying to make a NEW Apartheid state like White conroled SA was with their ONLY 20% population to take power . Whites in SA were also round 10% It is not a COLOUR THING, mate-its a % thing U R sticking forks in sockets not me! Thats why they want the RIGHT OF RETURN so they can up the %-they know they got only 20% TODAY ...but which country in World will take in double its population of so called REFUGEES .

16. The way Israel is behaving ...
Cynic #2   (12.30.09)
will bring the population to 11 million in no time with the Arab population comprising 50%. I very much would like to see that happen soon.
17. Arab Jews, non-Arab Jews equals
observer   (12.30.09)
Arab Christians, non-Arab Christians
18. Today,
observer   (12.30.09)
we can no longer assume that the God of the synagogue alone can grant anyone Jewish identity. Young Jews must find their own individual way to faith and belief in the divine. Young Jews need to be involved in situations that demand justice and equality for men and women in all races and creeds. They need to accept with open hearts all Jews regardless of their cultures and religious affiliation and to cast away racism within and outside of Judaism. They need exactly the kind of tolerance Sephardim have cultivated for hundreds of years.
19. Israeli Arab (non-European) population = 70%
observer   (12.30.09)
Mizrahim (Arab Jews) had lived in North Africa and the Middle East for millennia, and the vast majority were opposed to creating a Jewish state in Palestine. The Iraqi Jewish leadership, for example, cooperated with the Iraqi government to stop Zionist activity in Iraq; the chief rabbi published an open letter denouncing Zionism. In 1920, Palestinian Jews signed anti-Zionist petitions denouncing Ashkenazi rule. The Mizrahim who arrived in Israel ended up in agricultural work, 10-12 hours a day in conditions of disease and squalor. Their high death rate was explained by one Zionist official as a “common and natural thing”. Today Mizrahim constitute around 50% of the Israeli population. Palestinian Arabs make up another 20%, so the total non-European population is about 70%.
20. #19 observer : please observe better
Mizrahi   (12.30.09)
We the Mizrahim are JEWS and thanks God not Arabs. We the Mizrahim love our ashkenazi BROTHERS. Your dumb comment does only show how poor your understanding of the middle east is
21. White ?
Mike ,   Liverpool   (12.31.09)
Jews and Arabs are not white. Not in blood or religion, culture history and our thoughts. Outside the ME arabs and especially jews, just don't assimilate, you're different, way way different. Your history, culture isn't compatible and vice - versa.
22. Mizrahi # 19
observer   (12.31.09)
The Mizrahi Jews "cannot be turned into an "other," nor can they be cast beyond the fence; at most, one can construct detours to bypass development towns and poverty neighborhoods". Recognition of the injustices done to the Mizrahim will force the Israeli left to reform itself as well and to relinquish its hegemonic position. To avoid that, they created a taboo.
23. de-Arabization of the Mizrahim
observer   (12.31.09)
The combination of class and special factors created ‘three paths of the melting-pot’ of Israel in which the upper echelons are characterized by Ashkenazi networks prominent in Israel’s main urban centers, the bottom rungs are Mizrahim at the peripheries, while in the middle rung, the two groups assimilate, chiefly in Israel’s growing suburban rings. In the main, Mizrahim were spatially marginalized by the Israeli settlement project, whether in the isolated periphery or in poor and stigmatized neighbourhoods of Israel’s major cities. This has limited their potential economic, social, and cultural participation. The creation of the Israeli new identity involved the de-Arabization of the Mizrahim, the near total erasure of their cultures, the nationalization of their politics, and their assimilation into Israel’s economy and expanding middle class. Yet, Mizrahi identity has been preserved at the social and economic peripheries, not as a distinct cultural orientation, as a diffused sense of origin and solidarity, fueled by persisting marginality and hardship.
