1. The time is coming shortly when the persecutions of those of
Rivkah   (01.02.10)
a Judeo-Christian heritage will be so terrible, the worst time of suffering in all history called the Great Tribulation, will prompt the Jews to move to Israel en masse if they can get out of the countries where they are persecuted. Sadly, there is no place for Christians who are being persecuted to go. Some thing they will be raptured off the earth before the troubles, but that could be true only if the last trumpet sounds long before Armageddon. Sadly, the last trumpet sounds just before Armageddon and many Jews and Christians and Messianics will have been martyred by that time.
2. pals, are you sitting down? you realise they will come soon?

noa   (01.02.10)
Most American Jews, unless they are orthodox (which most aren't), won't move to Israel. I made Aliya over 8 years ago, and am getting ready to move back to the U.S. Life here isn't what it is all built up to be...I will join the masses that came here, tried to make it work (I gave it close to 9 years...) but went back.
4. Chabad
Choni Davidowitz   (01.02.10)
Chabad might be reversing the assimilation trend, but unfortunately their slogan of "Mach doh Eretz Yisrael", is keeping thousands of Jews in exile.

6. 60 years ago, 600 thousand Jews in Israel, now 6 million
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (01.02.10)
Israel now has the largest Jewish population in the world and in less than 20 years the majority of the world's Jews will live in Israel including 70% of the worlds' Jewish children. North America will still have a large Jewish population as the orthodox population increases and replaces the non -orthodox Jews who will assimilate and marry out. As for Europe, especially Eastern Europe, the Jewish population will continue to dwindle 90% of the worlds' Jews will end up living in just 4 countries Israel, U.S.A., France and Canada. Compare that to 1939 where there was large Jewish populations in many countries. I

aliyah in the next 2 years to raise an educated and proud Jewish family in the lanf of our mothers & fathers. I know its not easy, but with a supportive anglo- community I think that will help. Do you agree, and do you have advice on the move? Best wishes, the US economy is at a low not seen since the 30's so its actually better, overall, in Israel.

aliyah to anglo area. Any suggestions in general? I know its challenging...at the same time our people have sacrificed so much just to be in the land of our mothers & fathers. The economy here is really struggling- many say its the worst in 80 yrs
11. netanyahu wont let us live in a house or apartment
so where can we live ,   if we all came home   (01.02.10)
he is too busy catering to the demands of the gentiles to find time to look after the needs of his own ? will we have to sleep on the streets or does israel build enough houseboats so we can find shelter anchored off shore ?
12. Israel - A Great Place but Life is hard
Jonathan ,   Mercaz   (01.02.10)
I have thoroughly enoyed my 15 years in Israel, but don't feel I would be able to advise friends from the UK and the US to come. Unless you are very financially secure before arriving, making ends meet is virtually impossible, salaries are simply an embarrassment. At the risk of receiving petty comments from those of you who think Israel is perfect, I'm sure so many who have gone "home" probably would have stayed but for this. If you do an honest day's work at the end of the month you just expect there to be money left over. Not here.
13. "Most Jews do not live in Israel" Dah.
leo ,   usa   (01.03.10)
Majority of the Jews did not live in Israel in 1948 either. What's you point, Vanessa.
14. Most Jews have not lived in Israel for the past 2600 years
Profco ,   Miami, USA   (01.03.10)
While there may (or may not) have been a continuous Jewish presence in Eretz Yisrael prior to Israeli statehood, in point of fact, ever since 587 BCE, a majority of Jews have lived outside of Israel. So it is not surprising that they still do. Furthermore, even Della Pergola's claim a year or two ago that the number of Jews living in Israel had surpassed the number in the US is flawed. According to the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) data, what Della Pergola calls "Jews" are actually "Jews and others" (i.e. anyone who is a non-Arab), many of whom are not necessarily "halachic Jews" who would be permitted to marry under Israeli laws enforced by the Chief Rabbinate. Meanwhile the number of Americans eligible for Israeli citizenship under the current "law of return"--having at least one Jewish grandparent--would far outnumber the "Jews and others", let alone the "halachic" Jews in Israel. Meanwhile, more Israelis are moving to the diaspora--where they too are not immune from the lure of intermarriage--than the number of diaspora Jews making aliyah.
15. i think these figures are exagerated and there are only 33`%
jake ,   jerusalem israel   (01.03.10)
of jews living here.these things are highly politicized but its clear that the jews havent returned en mass to isreal and thank god for that the people are too smart to believe all this propaganda
16. To Andrew
Noa ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.03.10)
I personally did not find the supportive Anglo community here. I made Aliya on my own, not through any organization. At one point I wrote to Nefesh b' Nefesh with a question and they didn't even bother to answer (I suppose I wasn't a prospect to them since I was already here). If you are religious and belong to a religious community, I'm sure you'll do fine here. If you have kids, there is a built-in social structure of schools and other parents. Also, if you come via an organized Aliya group, there are others for support. It is more difficult if one is single and not orthodox. For me, work isn't a problem - I have a great job, however for most people, this is the big challenge. The problem for me is the rest of life...

18. 40% of Jews live in Israel
Roxy ,   Israel   (01.03.10)
Some of us are still trying to leave Israel since we arrived here! Everything is twice as hard here, the gov is usless, and unless you know people who know people, you struggle to survive! The only ones who do really survive here are the Ultra Orthodox who have all the protectia here, while they are the minority ! The majority of us struggle daily to make ends meet...I would love to get the heck out of here, but I am stuck due to poverty!
19. only Israelis live in Israel, no Jews there

21. 15 years in Holy Land is enough for me
Secular Jewish ,   EU   (01.03.10)
Intifadas, wars, terror, SCUDs have not frightened me. But after my divorce, 2nd marriage, burial of my beloved father... I tried to make everything according Jewish tradition, but every time was DISGUSTED while dealing with religious authorities as Rabbanut, Hevrat Kadisha, Moeza ha-datit etc. Now reside in secular Europe. Happy? Nor really. But don't depend of Halacha obscurantists anymore.
22. to #20 actually there is Muslims got 52 homelands
ghostq   (01.03.10)
and they pray with head toward Meca, chritians also got homelands, the status of the UK for example is one the queen is also the head of the church. and many chritians nations like Greec switzarland and so on carved cross on their flages. if you were a jew which I doubt it you probably pray with your head toward jerusalem. so before you blab jews got right to have their own state in the play they pray to which is jerusalem.
23. My neighbour made aliya to Israel to escape cold weather.

Benjamin ,   singapore   (01.03.10)
so you are not a jew ? :-) That is alright, we always have place for gentiles. Gentiles have always been a part of Judaism. My grands came to this part o f the world in the 1800. we ahev good connection with Israel. I have a big house there in Israel and I have many relatives there. I am not religious, i just wear a kippah and go to the synagogue when there is no one there. Strange me. I like to sit in my garden and face jerusalem. Sometime I go to my grand uncles house Menasseh Meyers at the Changi Village. Now days I sit there , i have a nice beach just behind my house. I have a new neighbour near my Nassim House. There is not a place on this earth that dosent have a touch of jewishness. In fact i am facinated by the many friend i made here in this Ynet.Everyone I met here love Israel. BuT THESE IDIOTS ALWAYS OUND SO ANTI- ESTABLISHMENT. THE MORE THEY PRETEND TO HATE ISRAEL THE MORE JEWISH THEY PROJECT. mNAY MADE ALIYAH AND NOW THEY ALL LEFT ISRAEL, BUT I GO TO ISRAEL EVERY 3 MONTHS, IT IS JUST EDICTICVE. i MET MANY JEWS WHO ARE MARRIED TO NON - JEWS, mnay became xtians. Some became muslims. I spoke to some , and thay just feel a sense of regret. Luckly I got married early. I almost married a french xtian girl. But I married someone i never knwe. I married a morrocan jew, I saw her teh first time undre the canopy only on the day I got married., I fell in love that day. No regrets.I frequent france because my wife grew up there. Many think she is a french women, but she is very morrocan so many ways.My wife and I go to Israel frequently, now she refurb our house in Israel.I think seh is going to say THAT SHE WANT TO STAY IN ISRAEL AT LAST :-) I am a kin no so suitable to stay in Israel. I like Singapore, USA London, Europe. But I also like Israel, especially Sufed and Golan. All my relatives are in the diplomatic cor, business, academicians etc . So most of them live outside Israel. I like Singapore, and Singapore Is my home. I understand Singapore but I dont understand my own jewish people. Here we have many jews from israel but we singapore jews find it very hard to mix with them. I think the Singapore Jewry is at danger post by the Israeli Jews ! SHOCKING BUT TRUE ! see you around my friend.:-) benjamin singapore
25. intermarry to climb the social ladder?
Eitan   (01.03.10)
This explanation for the reason why the jews abroad would intermarry "desire to fit in and climb the social ladder" is absurd. Really, would jews in Canada, for example, need to do that? Are jews considered to be down the social ladder and by marrying a non-jew your prospects of being more socially accepted increase, like in a 19th century novel? Is it all so calculative and motivated by insecurity and greed? Or is it just the simple fact that most people you meet living there are non- jews, and eventually you fall in love with one of them? What sounds more likely? Not everybody nowadays would just leave this part of their life to parents or a matchmaker, you know.
26. misleading headline
Randi ,   Jerusalem   (01.03.10)
41% of jews live in Israel, 40% in US. this means that, for the first time in 2000 yrs, Israel has the largest Jewish community in the world.
27. Commond Illusions
Amichai ,   Belgium   (01.03.10)
The following are illusions about Israel: 1. It is safer for Jews than anywhere else in the world 2. There is less anti-semitism in Israel. 3. We're all friends in Israel. 4. The government is ours. 5. The military is ours. 6. You have more rights in Israel as a Jew than in any other country. 7. There are less Arabs in Israel. 8. You can be anything you want to be in Israel. Do not move to Israel unless you have cash or know how to make it. Unless you're already poor and/or don't mind being poorer.
28. Chabad might be reversing the assimilation trend?
7azon yesha3ya   (01.04.10)
"Chabad might be reversing the assimilation trend, but unfortunately their slogan of , is keeping thousands of Jews in exile". Said Choni Davidowitz ; trouble with them, they are not really regular jews. They have their own agenda. "Mach doh Eretz Yisrael" is one of their peculiar specialties. Their deceased Rebbe, never stepped in Eretz Yisroel, and why should he? Eastern Parkway was Eretz Yisroel for him, and he was reigning there!
29. shlomo tells of his friend
7azon yesha3ya   (01.04.10)
...receiving social benefits and assistance in both Israel and Canada,...... actually people often talk of how idealistic religious jews make aliya. in reality, most often they come because private jewish education in the diaspora is insanely prohibitive, while israel is the only place that provides free jewish education to their kids no matter how many and no matter how much the parents earn. the secular working public pays for the 'convenient' idealism, and as a reward, get spat upon.
