1. Haradim arent Zionist
Steven Stein ,   New York New York   (01.03.10)
The Ultra Religous Really dont contribute, lets be honest all they do is pray they dont hold any significant jobs, I dont trust them, there israel dirty little secret.
2. Well duh !
Avi ,   Israel   (01.03.10)
what the charideem loyal to the state of Israel? what ever next, they will have to get a job, serve in the army and stop freeloading off the decent hard working law obiding citizens of this country.
3. What does UTJ think Zionism means?
Ari ,   Los Angeles, USA   (01.03.10)
The only thing that Zionism means is the return of Jewish people to a Jewish state in Israel. How can UTJ be opposed to that unless they don't consider non-hareidi Jews to be Jewish? Just more reason why UTJ and Shas and their ilk need to stop freeloading, they would appreciate what the IDF does for them if they served in the IDF.
4. The charidim show their true FACE
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.03.10)
they don't want to be loyal to a Zionist , Jewish and democratic State . They want a theocracy . Let them go to gaza too , not better as the NK . We can be happy that we don't live in Ireland where blasphemy can be punished with a fine up to 25,000 Euro [ 35,000 US$ ] TV5 reported . Maybe those same charidim will try to introduce such a law here too ?
5. allegiance
Lisa   (01.03.10)
any politician in any country who is NOT willing to swear allegiance to his country is considered not suitable for public office- does sound straightforward and logical to me. It's your choice! What is the problem?
6. Here's the line that should be in the oath
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.03.10)
"to preserve, protect and defend the State of Israel, its laws and its people against all enemies, foreign and domestic" That alone would cause problem for people like Zahalka and A'Sana. As to the haredim? Me' thinks they protest too much.
7. Loyalty... is common sense. make it happen
Jae ,   Lynn US   (01.03.10)
8. Why are UTJ complaining? they are no longer allowed in the K
eddie ,   london UK   (01.03.10)
Knesset. The leader of the Haredim has just forbidden Haredim form entering the Knesset, so they don't have to worry about vowing allegiance !
9. I can understand what they are saying
zionist forever   (01.03.10)
Israel is legally defined as a jewish state but it does not say its a zionist one so why do we have to include zionist in the oath? Also what defenition of zionism will it refer to religious, secular? In general I have no problem including the word zionism although in this case I think if its going to help pass the bill then I don't think removing the word zionism will make a huge difference the idea of making the arabs swear loyalty to Israel as a jewish state will achieve the same result.
10. NR2 AVI AND NR5 CHARLES
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (01.03.10)
From Avi's regular TB's we know he hates religious Jews with a passion, which makes him a good Zionist. Besides that Avi , daily I meet Israelis, who are indecent, not hard working and totally not law abiding. So before you start pounding your chest of being a good citizen, look around you and see how modern Zionism has become a cesspool of BS. And my dear Charles all this talk about a Jewish Democratic state is a load of bull. This is a Fallafel repuplic run by a bunch of Hellenists who despise Judaism and make a mockery of being Jewish. Before one should be loyal to the state, the state should be loyal to its citizens and protect them. And from what we see the state does not give a hood about us and absuses its powers to serve its own agenda.
11. Zionist? Guess that excludes all those
Ben ,   Gush Etzion   (01.03.10)
who want to give away parts of Eretz Yisroel, Bye bye Meretz, Labor, Kadima, all arabs, Bibi who gave away Hebron ate Wye River for Clinton's lie about freeing Pollard and who is cooking up another expulsion and put a freeze on construction will also have to go, hahahahahahaha who will be left in the Knesset besides the National Union and Part of HaBayit HaYehudi, even certain Yisroel Beiteinu members will have to go, what a riot. Maybe Kach which is a Zionist Party will make a comeback
12. Meaningfulness.Meaningfulness.
Keren ,   IL-BR   (01.04.10)
I agree with MK Menachem Eliezer. Why exactly do they have to add the word Zionist.Isn't that obvious already? Beitenu should clearly specify why it wants so much this word to be added, other than ,once again, losing time in nothingness. What is fundamental is the swearing of allegiance to the "Jewish"state fore and foremost. In the other hand,Israel needs an intelectual/spiritual mentor to run its country.Somebody,or somebodies, that function as souls behind decisions.A kind of a profound “steam” that permeates decisions, that gives the deeper meaning to all it is said and decided in this country. It’s missing more precise definitions in the premisses the State function through. All seems a bit confused. We have Jewish intellectuals of the caliber of Adin Steinsaltz,as I said before, who should function as the soul of the Knesset.Knesset simply needs a lucid,Jewish intellectual, nothing else.Somebody that reflects BEYOND ,much beyond the simply mental concepts that have being used to run Israel nowadays. Get rid of the prejudiced label of "religious"and start listening our true Intellectuals ,made up with mind AND soul. Only then we will REALLY walk forward. Just for note:The muslim world,to which Israel have been struggling, have their intellectual/”spiritual”mentor;the christianhood have theirs;the communists have theirs;the socialists have theirs...It is bizarre that justly WE, the rightfull proprietors of the beginning of this whole judeo-christian-muslim-hellenist-comunists,phylosophical thinking worlds, justly us, the Hebrews, the Torah owners,do not have our intelectual/spiritual mentor. This spiritual mentor ,and only this, will be the right one, but, for the moment, start working with our own great, great minds and souls, already!
13. MK vows
Moshe bar Noach ,   London, Canada   (01.04.10)
B"H I does not matter which "State" one pledges alligence to, if one does not follow the Laws of HaShem then it really just does not matter. Moshe
14. 12 - you sound so much like the palestinians
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.04.10)
everything needs to be just right before you'll agree to what the jewish state says. i your religious fervor you screech at the notion that loyalty to this secular democratic state is something the state must earn, not a privilege in itself that should be defended and protected. just change the jewish words to islamic words and you sound just like the islamists. you should be embarrassed of yourself.
15. loyalty
Lisa   (01.04.10)
I think most TB's are correct here: if you cannot, or do not want to swear allegiance to your country- then politics is NOT the place to be. You cannot draw a government cheque, have benefit, have your say in the Knesset and NOT be loyal to your country- in the past people like this were called traitors- and they were dealt with. You don't like it- don't go into politics.
16. 11
zionist forever   (01.04.10)
Zionism is a political movement and its defined differently on which part of the political divide your on. The right & left have different definitions. The religious have their vision. The socialists have their vision Its always been that way from pre 1948- modern day. Unless there is a national definition of what zionism is then adding it to the oath of loyalty. The oath means the arabs accept Israel is a jewish state and swear loyalty to it but different governments can impliment zionist policies. If it will pass the bill then we should be willing to drop the word zionist from the oath. Better to have a watered down oath of loyalty rather than nothing at all and if this bill fails the oportunity won't come again.
17. Only Jewish and Democratic
Keren ,   IL-BR   (01.04.10)
The word Zionist must be dropped from this bill and only the words Jewish and Democratic kept. In this way,non Jewish populations, specially arabs, living among us nowadays, will have to decide if it's good or not for them to live in such a defined State. If made so,this bill is going to be a great step to better define Israel and at the same time this will be a start for removing from our midst those who have fought to divide and ultimately destroy Israel. Israel is a Jewish Nation and so it must be by law.
18. Actually ,what Beitenu is proposing is foolishness...
Keren ,   IL-BR   (01.04.10)
...if not malice, because as long as I know the name the Israel is alraedy "The Jewish and Democratic State of Israel".There is not the word Zionist in it. I start guessing MK Menachem Eliezer Moses is very right about Beitenu.I think these are malicious and evil moves. Do not forget Lieberman was raised in a communist country, and his more deeply human habilities are irremediably damaged. Be aware of him and his ideologies. He can be very dangerous for Israel.Be aware of Avigdor Lieberman!
19. A last word on this article
Keren ,   IL-BR   (01.04.10)
But ,even if Lieberman's supposedly malicious intentions are passed and the word Zionist is included,I see no problem in religious MK's swear allegiance in such terms ,because we all Jews are Zionists ,in a way or another. So they will never be swearing in vain. The most important,I repeat,is to arabs MK's swear allegiance to the Jewish State and pay the consequences if they fail in accomplish the demands of it,and the consequence is going to be, obviously, their exit from the Knesset.
