1. Obviously such actions
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.10.10)
on the part of police officers are inexcusable, and it is clear that Abu Najma has been subject to excessive physical force. Should the police officers be found guilty of such disgraceful behavior, their employment should be terminated, their pensions forfeited and jail terms contemplated. That said -- it would be prudent to wait and see what the investigation reveals before accepting Abu Najma's version at face value. He is after all, a thief and a blackmailer. I'm willing to bet that lies and exaggeration are part of his repertoire, and it is not inconceivable that he would have attempted physical force in his attempt to escape and it would have become necessary to subdue him, particularly in light of the fact that he would have become aggressive upon realizing that his crimes had come to light and rather than the blackmail money he had come to "finalize," he was about to be arrested. Still -- while there is an acceptable amount of force to maintain control of an arrested felon, there is also excessive force which is absolutely unacceptable. We shall see what the investigation reveals.
2. Well don't steal motorcycles and they bargain for their
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (01.10.10)
return and don't enter Israel illegally. You can be sure he exaggerated what the police did. So, did the police recover the motorcycle?
3. didnt happen
shimon   (01.10.10)
this guy isnt only a thief, hes a blackmailer which means he doesnt even know what morals are. hes clearly a lying piece of filth, and as far as im concerned he may as well have said that the cops took him to the moon and let a dinosaur chase him. the only thing i dont understand is why ynet thought this cretins story is "news" when did ynet become a forum for palestinian accusations...ynet if youre looking for a source of "news", why not look in goldstones report - it has 500 + pages of accusations even more "newsworthy" for you to breathtakingly print as if it actually happened. post this if youre not cowards as well.
4. I believe our police are capable of anything
Donna ,   Netanya   (01.10.10)
I have seen them pull unbelievable (illegal) stunts on our roads, and my husband caught our policewoman neighbour telling her kid to steal coupons from our mailbox. My niece will be a policewoman eventually, and she only went in to avoid tough army service. Our police force has no moral fibre (a microcosm of our society)and I do not trust them for a minute.
5. Time for change
suri ,   Toronto canada   (01.10.10)
As much as I dont trust the palestinians I believe what this man is saying. Everytime I come to Israel I see the despicable conduct of the police officers and the way that they speak to people. There has to be intensive training and accountability in the whole force in Israel . There is an attitude that I can say and do whatever I please. It is quite shocking really but we are seeing this on all levels and I guess it starts from the top. It is time for a little bit of self reflection and alot of internal cleaning otherwise Israel will become a lawless country which it is already exhibiting signs of.
6. Do you remember the two miluimniks that
Igor ,   NL   (01.10.10)
a few years ago lost their way in the West bank and were barbarically killed live on TV with a mob chanting allahu akbar and filmed live by the Italian TV crew? Those poor guys were not motorbike thieves or blackmailers. Their killers were hailed as heroes. Nobody in PA put them in jail! Israel, you should be ashamed to put to trial people who takes risks for your security.
7. Abuse
mark ,   canada   (01.10.10)
The PAL thief is lucky he ain't over here. The treatment he received while in detention is rather mild. For starters, over here, his lum-lums would have been stretched, a pumpkin would have been used to stuff the guy, and then he would have been treated much the same. Thieves......don't come to Canada. Thanks
8. To: No. 4
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.10.10)
Seems to me your niece is a little short on moral fibre, too. "Tough" military service? As if your niece was destined to anything beyond washing dishes in an army base kitchen or sorting clothes in the base's laundry!
9. The thief
Uzi ,   Isarel   (01.10.10)
This certified thief and blckmailer banged his own head in the cell to try to blame the police. He is not new to the courts, he is trying to get out of heavy punishment by playing the victim. Hang'em high!! Our idiotic judges will let him go free probably he will take that very expensive motor bike with him as a comp. Unreal.

Birdi ,   Israel   (01.10.10)
You cannot generalize as there are some good cops & some bad cops. (in Israel)
11. no excuse for bad behavior
Josie ,   Israel   (01.10.10)
no excuse for the policemen's actions but can one imagine if the table was turned around? I doubt if the Jew would even be out of the station alive to tell his story.

"I see the despicable conduct of the police officers & the way that they speak to people" To be able to understand Hebrew you need to hear it not see it. Are you trying to tell us you heard & understood how the police were talking to people??? or what ??
13. Sounds like the treatment Yasamniks give
Eli ,   Hashmonaim   (01.10.10)
to Hareidim and those who live in Judea and Samaria
14. Europe must issue international arrest warants for abusers
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (01.10.10)
Europe should show its commitment to human rights and democracy and issue arrest warants for those who abused Arabs, and also for those Israeli ministers in charge.
15. How does anyone know if he's telling one gram of truth

17. #14 Tayfun, Remember the Midnight Express movie
Edna ,   Bath, UK   (01.11.10)
You are the last one that can have claims about this incidents . Go see the -Midnight Express- movie. A real story. Once you fall to police hands In Turkey , you cease to be a human being- and you are lucky if you ever come out of there. You dont have to be a motorcycle thief for that. Turkey was even hanging people a few years ago for no sensible reason. Your country should be tried for all your obvious barbaric deeds before you open your mouth.
