1. Ayalon should be fired ASAP
Yehuda ,   USA   (01.14.10)
2. ayalon
sas ,   germany   (01.14.10)
he should NOT resign he SHOULD BE REMOVED. the man is an IDIOT.
3. ayalon
sad ,   israel   (01.14.10)
has anyone questioned ayalon about the fact that he worked for the turks when he completed his tour of duty in washington????????? the man is a danger to our society. he should not be allowed to be a member of the government
4. It's not Ayalon provoking, it's the media's manufacture
m   (01.14.10)
The tv present, the newspapers who focus on the Ayalon's wrongs, not even mentioning the hatred on the Turkish tv programs. You don't have any self respect, just focused to destroy Israel for the sake of the world.
5. israel's harm
alexi   (01.14.10)
Ayalon, an experienced diplomat of labor origin campaigned on a beitenu platform of standing up for israel. That is fine so long as one uses discretion and strength when needed. Diplomatic ripost to erdogans' comments about israel are fine without denigrating the Turkish ambassador. One can say that hamas is the cause of provocation of israel and we reject totally 1005 all of erdogans comments as fiction and bias. But not low chairs-ayalon was trying to be tough because he like beilin, ben ami, olmert cannot hide their weakness;its is genetic. Peres who apologizes to whomever wants one, absolved the state by forcing an apology, but the damage is done and the vile arabs are watching laughing like hyenas. Ayalon has to go and should be fired. Now for liberman-lots of israelis like lieberman for his bravado and as opposed to the cowadly duo of olmert and ramon did not offer concessions. But talk is cheap. Dayan and rabin kept t heir powder dry. Sharon would say israel will know how to defend itself. He did not go overboard.Mayvbe the arab israelis have it right that lieberman was a rabblerouser talker on campus but ran away when it comes to fighting. If that is the case, then israel would be better off if he gets indicted. Others will know well enough how to observe diplomatic courtesy while protecting israel's honor. But that does not mean we want to go back to livni and ramon, the days of olmert cowardice.
6. and just show the other cheek?
S. Barel ,   Toronto, Canada   (01.14.10)
Disagree with your hastened conclusion.
7. Stop the BS
Morris ,   USA   (01.14.10)
Jews shouldn't have to "play by the rules" while their mortal enemies do and say whatever they want. Ayalon delivered the right message and every Jew in Israel and elsewhere should have supported him -- especially Bibi.
8. Foregin Ministry

9. IS ISRAEL GOING DOWN WITH ITS FOREIGN POLICY ?
Atilla Karagözoğlu   (01.14.10)
10. Absolutely right!!
Yossi. D ,   Raanana, Israel   (01.14.10)
11. I knew this would backfire
Johan ,   The Netherlands   (01.14.10)
Now instead of condemning the outrageous Turkish blood libels and extreme hostile verbal barrage by the Turkish PM, it is Israel who has to crawl through the dust and beg the Turks for mercy forgiveness. Painful.
12. :: Expected but tolerated no longer
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (01.14.10)
It could be argued that such foreign policy disasters (and there have been many!) are understandable as Israel is a juvenile nation state (barely 60 years old). Israel does not have the maturity like other nations to conduct itself correctly, instead Israel acts like a spoilt child who demands everything and gives nothing in return except abuse. However the rest of the world is running out of patience and will no longer tolerate such infantile behavior. This is not a ‘new approach’, Israel has adopted this approach decades ago and it has always backfired. Like a spoilt child who acts as the neighborhood bully Israel has no real friends. It is high time that Israel grows up and partakes in world affairs on equal terms. This of course means ending the brutal occupation of the Palestinian people, signing up to International Laws/conventions etc. The world will not wait another 60 years; if Israel will not change by itself the international community will take steps to curb Israel’s puerile behavior.
13. I'm first!!!1
Franklin the tapir   (01.14.10)
14. Lieberman and Ayalon
Michael ,   Haifa   (01.14.10)
These two jokers have have reduced the professionalism of Diplomacy to the type of support normally given to Beitar Yerushalayim.
15. Israel - Turkey
Jacques Heller ,   Modiin, Israel   (01.14.10)
Ayalon was absolutely right! For once, we show some tough reaction forwarded in a language that the Middle East understand. Our no-reaction to the insulting behaviour of Erdogan in Davos, his further comments to the media was an invitation to more slaps in the face.Enough with the "ghettoisation style" of our diplomacy. We should not become admirers of the Obama "terribly dangerous weak" style or the West, without leadership, will disappear. Israel deserves some respect, even from people who do not share our policies.
16. ayalon
st ,   israel   (01.14.10)
go home to your ameican wife and adopted kids. you will cause less damage to yourself and the country. be ashamed as to what you did. where are your brains????? certainly not in your head. u r an idiot and your boss is not far behind you.resign before you are removed. you aren an embarrassment to isaelli diplomacy.
17. to maikel (14)
tiki ,   belgium   (01.14.10)
Professionalism and Diplomacy! By whom? Erdogan? All this 'diplomacy is, some hypocrites smiling into a running camera. Ayalon was angry and refreshing and made his point how it is to be 'humiliated in front of a running camera like President SHIMON PERES was humiliated by the 'clown Erdogan and he didn't make such a fuss about his 'hurt honour.
18. the turks are the one to blame not israel
dovedvan ,   ashdod,israel   (01.14.10)
this journalist attribute the rise of the anti israelis and anti jewish feeling to the behaviour of the foreign office !! for your information the anti israeli feeling began a long time ago it did'nt wait the election of bibi nor the nomination of liberman ! israel has to defend it self from those criminal behaviour that encourage in fact anti semitism ! we don't have to apologyze for responding to false allegation !
19. The left Israelis with no G-D
Eyal ,   USA   (01.15.10)
This is why we never succeed in any PR, when you have so many atheists living in our God given land protesting against our own leaders. By professionalism and by diplomacy, it was wrong to treat the Turkish Ambassador this way, even though I agree with Ayalon's anger. To completely condemn Ayalon for reacting to the multiple insults from the Turks is also wrong. I am happy we apologized, but am sad most Israelis are condemning Ayalon, as if Turkey didn't do anything wrong to promote such an anger? Listening to some of the messages on this board is completely over the line, as if Ayalon started this whole mess. Now we look like idiots to the Arab world, specially the Turks even though they started this whole mess. We basically ruined every opportunity to demand an apology from Turkey and or recall our ambassador if an apology wasn't given by the Turks. At least we would have some dignity and pride rather than look like idiots to the Arabs and the the Turks.
20. Ayalon's Mistake
NYC Girl   (01.15.10)
His mistake was not so much the dressing down of the Turkish ambassador for his country's vicious attacks against Israel. The problem was that he chose to do it in a very childish and transparent manner by having the ambassador sit below him...a tactic that was both obvious as a psychological ploy, and unnecessarily petty.
21. He's a pathetic embarrassment
Rafi ,   US   (01.15.10)
22. This is not only about the Turkish TV show!
Jake   (01.15.10)
It is amazing to think that the article neglected to mention that shortly before the Ayalon incident, Turkish PM Erdogan slandered Israel profusely in Beirut, Lebanon in front of the cameras. And all the countless other Turkish aggressions, like threatening Israel with an 'earthquake'. Ayalon apologized. This is simply another self-hating , Israel-disparaging editorial that is wind in the sails of Israel's enemies. Congratulations, Ynet. You can now say to Haaretz: "I have surpassed, thee".
23. Ayalon apologized. Where's the Turkish apology?
Jake   (01.15.10)
No need for one, if it's Jews and Israel on the receiving end, ha? Quod licet Iovi non licet bovi.
24. Ayalon is one of the BEST and Erdogan should resign NOW!
Asher ,   NY,USA   (01.15.10)
25. #12 Matty Groves, the obsessive-compulsive
Jake   (01.15.10)
Your post is dull rambling nonsense. Try getting a life, and end the occupation of our talkback forums.
26. :: Jake - #25
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (01.15.10)
And herein lies your problem. These are not ‘your’ talkback forums; they belong to anyone and everyone. Sure you’d like only self-ignorant, pro-Israel supporters to post here and no doubt you’d like to see only pro-Israel articles which paint Israel as whiter-than-white. Thankfully Ynet and Haaretz and do not cater for such a fairytale world.
27. Ayalon should resign asap!
Goksel ,   Izmir / Turkey   (01.15.10)
I am a Turk from Izmir/Turkey. For many years Turkish public have seen many movies, TV series dishonors Turkey: movies like “midnight express” or TV series “24” (mostly USA made). When the Turkish officials made a comment about the movies and asked them to stop broadcasting, we have always been told that "media is free and governments can’t put pressure on the media. So why should the Turkish government do something you or the western governments never done before. Don’t you think Media is free? Israeli government needs to understand that, Turkish media does this because of the current Gaza issues, as they get more rating they earn more money. That simple is that. And thanks to the Israeli officials they made that 3.class TV series well know worldwide now. I think Israeli officials dealt with this issue extremely badly, now Turkish media will have more ammunition to fire, the Turkish PM will make more bad comments about Israel, Arab media will take Israeli apology as a victory and Turkish people will step away from Israel because of bad treatment to the ambassador. And all these will make things worse. This Sunday Ehud Barak comes to Turkey, he is well experienced professional and I am sure Turkish officials would welcome him according to diplomatic rules. I hope that would be a turning point for the both countries and things get better. To make things a bit better Ayalon should resign and someone well experienced should take his chair. On top of that, Israel is becoming isolated in the region so more diplomacy should take place not fighting. At the end, I wish that every single person in Middle East live in peace.
28. Jake, Matty simply explained reality, live with it...
BBSNews ,   Charlotte, NC   (01.15.10)
...even if you could get every reasoned activist for peace kicked off of these forums, the reality that Matty describes still will not go away. Israel made a horrible PR mistake with the atrocious behavior towards the Turks. From outside the Israeli self-denial bubble, it looks like Israel is trying very hard to alienate any and every friend in the world that it ever had, just to hang onto some stolen property that some imaginary skydaddy mythically bequeathed upon wild-eyed colonists. Delusional religious extremism is as alive and well in Israel as it is in any Islamic country one would care to name. If Israel ever wants to grow up and really be a part of the community of world nations, it too will have to reign in the religious extremists and the brutal illegal occupations and the siege of Gaza, a crime against humanity, must be brought to an end. Israel is risking its own future by belligerently and violently trying to cling to stolen land and religious delusions.
29. Ayalon was elegant but quite to the point.
Me   (01.15.10)
30. #12 Groves. Curb your own puerile rants.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.15.10)
Israel is "occupying" the lands of Judea and Samaria, which have rightfully belonged to the Jewish people for more than 3,500 years. Far from being a "spoiled child" Israel contributes, out of all proportion to her size, to the enrichment and betterment of humanity. Whether we're looking at the fields of high tech, business, medicine or entertainment. Get a life and curba your own puerile rants.
