1. Livni - for the sake of Israel
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (01.14.10)
Livni should join the government so that Lieberman can go. Hopefully this will clear the way for productive peace negotiations and improved Israeli prestige in the world.
2. Livni being hypocritical as you are the one who started this
jason ,   haifa israel   (01.14.10)
Olmert was in turkey negotiating on golan but then the gaza war came and turkey felt double crossed. Livni's hypocricy is breathtaking. She talks about use of force well she gave away gaza to iran to import weapons and her weakness in lebanon showed hamas to copy hezbollah with tunnels, bunkers and long range rockets. Livni defines hypocricy.
3. livni correct but
alexi   (01.14.10)
Bibi was derelict in not sending a memo to FM that courtesies have to be observed in criticizing Turkey's or arab positions. honor is a big issue in the middle east and there is no gain in playing with fire. So ayalon should be kicked out of the FM as he is compensating for being weak like beilin, olmert and ben ami. Livni should not overdo it because she sat like a coward as olmert offered all kinds of concessions, didn't resign as implied by winograd and was not able for years to reduce missile fire by hamas. Ask residents of the south who they prefer--kadima or likud and you'll get the answer. Israel cannot afford to be a weakling which Olmert was number one. Now suppose, ayalon had not insulted the turkish ambassador, and jus t protested the latest piece of filth coming out of turkey.Erdogan would play the honor card again and say turkey has been insulted. its ok for him to insult israel but its not ok to insult his views.israel does not need new enemies. However, it may come a time, that Israel has to say no, no to turkey as erdogan is razing hell against israel. in such case Israel has to be able to say, sorry, our relations are on the back burner as we will not deal with erdogan. He may recall his ambassador, threaten, convene moslem blocks, the UN and breath fire. Israel has to remain strong throughout and call his bluff. Erdogan is a bluffer and the Turkish military hates his guts and is waiting for a chance to settle the score. So livni and her buffoon advisor ramon are no alternative to bibi right now. However, ayalon should be replaced forthwith with a gillerman. In the meantime, Bibbi should take martial arts course to stabalize himself.
4. Livni is right when she refers to...
Marco ,   Spain   (01.14.10)
Ayalon as a misguided individual... For once I agree with an Israeli leader.
5. Sad!!!
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron Israel   (01.15.10)
It's sad to read the talk backs! Why do we have so many spineless people? Tzipi is pathetic! She agreed to enter through the back door in Annapolis just because Saudi King wanted. In the Middle East and in the rest of the world, the only thing people respect is countries and leaders who are sure of their rights and proud. No more bowing, no more guetho complex. We are Israelis, proud Israelis, part of the chosen people, that's not enough to understand that Peres/Livni/Barak approach is really bad for Israel?
6. livni would like behind of an arab ambassador, ignore
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (01.15.10)
anything she says, she will never be a responsible person.
7. History will prove that Netanyahu was right
Jake   (01.15.10)
in saying that Ayalon's scolding of the Turks was wrong only on stylistic issues, but correct in substance. Turkey has become inplacably hostile to Israel.
8. This whole thing...
M. Alpan ,   Pittsburgh, U.S.A.   (01.15.10)
As a Turkish American living in the U.S. for 30 years, I was initially curious. However once I knew the details I was saddened by how juvenile and immature this staging was. Did they really think that seating an ambassador to a higher chair would elevate Israel? Turks and Jews have historically been in very good relations, during the inqusition in Spain The Ottoman Empire invited all the Jews. I still have a lot of jewish friends back in Istanbul and here in the U.S. I personally think this juvenile behavior is more humiliating to Israel than Turkey. What I fail to understand is that having such close ties to America how do the folks in the Israeli government not take the TV series The Valley Of The Wolves in stride. Israel surely is one of the shining democracies in the Middle East. I do not like the said show and I agree with the Israelis in that this show is opportunistic and populist at best, just like the horribly ridiculous and nonsensical TV show "24 Hours". There is freedom of expression and such shows unfortunately areamongst the side affects of Democracy. I will fail to understand how Israel played into the hands of the far right and populist rants of Mr. Erdogan. Majority of the Turks share the feelings of the Israelis at large. Seriously immature act and bad politics to strengthen someone as far right as Mr. Erdogan. Long live Mr. Peres the civil and mature president.
9. Livni
Louis Fried ,   Woodbridge   (01.15.10)
Livni is an idiot. Not one word of criticism of Erdogan's offensive remarks or of the racist anti-semitiv trash being shown on Turkish television. Livni is nothing but an obsequious fool playing cheap politics.
10. M Alpan from Pittsburgh
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (01.15.10)
I agree with you. But I still do not understand how Turks brought to power Erdogan and AKP, the Islamic extremists after all the education at least my generation received in Turkey pro Ataturk principals of western democracy? I remember in high school we even had a one hour per week of ASKERLIK (Military) class which was designed to indoctrinate youngsters in respecting the modern republic and its young western democracy. Where did the Yobaz trained? Who trained them? The IHL schools were supposed to be monitored by the education ministry. And finally the most difficult question to answer: When will Turkey wake up and return back to the enlightened path of Ataturk?
11. Livni knows lots about weakening Israel
Goldie ,   USA   (01.15.10)
Ah, the voice of experince: Res 1702; negotiating away Jerusalem in secret and lying about it; Moldy Lead operation in Gaza; being ignored by another foreign minister in servile dhimmi status;. losing an election then refusing to form a coalition. She knows from missteps.
12. Knock It Off, Feigie
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (01.15.10)
Israel made a mistake, apologized and wants to move on. Just drop it.
13. TZIPI LIVNI
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (01.15.10)
This lady is an absolute embarrassment for Israel. The hateful Turkish Regime (I do not brand the entire turkish people thus) has become hateful and they are long due a serious reprimand. Antisemitic soap operas are disgusting and intolerable .Mrs .Livni should direct her anger towards Israels' enemies ,of which there are many, and not towards her own Prime Minister.Livni is not leadership material nor ever will be.
14. god help us with these leaders
samuel   (01.15.10)
15. We do not need to listen to a butt kissing
jason white ,   afula,israel   (01.15.10)
fool like livni or the real loser peres. They have hurt Israel more than any others in the government, except sharon and olmert.
16. who is this Livni
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.15.10)
Before criticizing others, Livni should remember one thing: Goldstone declared that she is a war criminal.
17. ramon and livni
alexi   (01.15.10)
israel and bibi need no lessons from the sex pervert ramon and his ineffective military and political record, as well as livni, who sat like a coward as olmert mocked her, winograd and israelis. Ayalon should be fired right away. Lieberman should recognize he is not in putin's iron russia;he is in israel, where you talk less and carry a big stick. Zalalka says that lieberman was a big mouth on campus but didn't show up for the fight. If so, then take a course in martial arts fast, and talk less. As for Turkey, shut up. Israel should just finish its military contracts with turkey and say nothing and do nothing about arab loving erdogan.Let the turks tire of his big mouth.
18. to # 10
Atheist Turk ,   Germany   (01.15.10)
You are right once again. How did this yobaz sürüsü come to power? In my eyes it was the secular military aftter Kenan Evren who re-islamised Turkey to prevent left-wing groups. And everyone can see the result. Kindest regards P.S.: biz mi basa gecsek? :)
19. Atheist Turk - We should not.
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (01.15.10)
many years ago I met Turan Feyziouglu , after he was defeated in the party. I was a young engineer working for his crazy (in a good way) uncle for a short time at a metal factory near Florya. They both liked me as a young ambitious person. In one conversation somehow he said BU MEMLEKETTE DURUST POLITIKA YAPILMAZ. KIMSEYE YARANAMAZSIN In this country you cannot do honest politics. You cannot pease anyone. Stay where you are.
20. insulting Turkey
david zimbalist ,   marlboro nj   (01.16.10)
from far away NJ it seems what was done to the Turkish ambassador is the work of an unsophisticated thug. We haven'tmany friends left in Turkey, no fault of ours, but this will make it worse for us, not better. I couldn't believe an Israeli diplomat could be so stupid. I'm shocked and dissapointed
21. DESPERATE LIVNI
chas   (01.18.10)
DID SHE DEFEND PRES. PERES WHEN THE TURKISH PM INSULTED HIM?? LIVI IS A LOSER WITH NO AGENDA! ALL SHE KNOWS HOW TO DO IS EXPLOIT!
22. They should go to court
Zain ,   Atlanta, USA   (01.19.10)
They should go to court and challenge the war crimes charges like dignified humans instead of whining about how their opponents are being anti-semitic for calling for their arrest. If they claim they didn't commit war crimes, why not challenge the charges? Personally, I think they did commit war crimes... grossly.
23. To #10, 18 & 19
M. Alpan ,   Pittsburgh   (01.20.10)
The diagnosis about Kenan Evren is right on the money. He simply exhumed the spirit of a very miniscule minority of Anti-Ataturk, proKhalifat group. This coincides with the ascent of Fethullah Gulen. Sadly enough he is revered in the U.S. and he is in my opinion a poison pill who is underhandedly supported by the U.S. foreign policy. A strong, free thinking and independent Turkish republic, no matter how much democratic she may be, does not sound very comforting to the U.S. Middle East policies. Republicans go, Democrats come it's a toss up... U.S. foreign policy never really changes, it pretends to be ignorant, yet that is simply to mask the real reason, arrogance and strategic domination. As the old saying goes, follow the money. How did this little known, small time former village imam spread so much money to infiltrate the judicial system, the military and all the key spots in Turkey? To answer you need to read a little. The answers are really very discouraging and scary. Sadly though Livni's tactics are no better than the Erdogan politics.
