1. Why?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.16.10)
Ratzinger is an unrepentant, anti-Semite and former Nazi. Someone who once proudly wore the Nazi swastika on his arm should never be permitted to set one silk-slippered trotter into a synagogue. After all -- you can put a silk slipper on his trotter, but a pig is still a pig. Tref.
2. At the Vatican they spell NAZI B-e-n-d-i-c-t X-V-I!
(01.16.10)
in other words this old German Hitler youth member isn't fooling any of us Jews!
3. Nazinger and the RC church
Ruri   (01.16.10)
The RC church is the biggest torturer and murderer of the Jews until the Nazis: like Hitler, Nazinger is both an RC AND a Hitlerite, we must be honest and stop the political correctness.
4. to Sarah, re : "a pig is still a pig" We Oppose Apartheid
Benjamin   (01.16.10)
We Oppose Apartheid, Not Jews. All this nonsense is an attempt to make Nazis out of anyone who has the temerity to tell the plain truth: Israel is an apartheid state. It is Israel that has decided to annex the West Bank and convert Gaza into a Muslim ghetto. Democracy means equal rights for all. Arabs on the West Bank and in Gaza are subject to Israel power but have no democratic say in the administration of that power. That`s apartheid. And for those Zionists who want to blame the Palestinians for their fate by regurgitating one-sided historical narrative, that`s all irrelevant As our Declaration of Independence says, liberty is an "inalienable right" i.e. there is NO EXCUSE for taking it away

6. Vatican Inc.
Steve   (01.16.10)
The Vatican is like the Mafia, but with less integrity. If Jesus returned tomorrow and saw the opulence and riches surrounding the Pope in his palace I do believe he would kick his ass.
7. #4 Benjamin Change is on the way
Eran ,   Singapore   (01.16.10)
Change is on the way. "They live in a giant prison on Gaza" -- How many prisons do you know where inmates have heavy artillery? "have to go thru hundreds of checkpoints in the West Bank." -- They didn't have to before they started blowing up Jews on every occasion. On the other hand, everyone traveling by plane now has to go thru checkpoints. We only call them "security checks". Given the recent danger in the USA (airlines), the suspension of an Islamic march in the UK, the home invasion of a Danish cartoonist by an angry Muslim, the murder of a Dutch movie director because he was unsympathetic to Islamic protocol, the banning of the burka in France and the banning of minarets in Switzerland, is it not evident that western European and North American nations are coming to their senses vis a vis the real intent of Jihadism and are now preparing to challenge it? Some of these nations are even turning towards Israel to learn how to combat airport and airline terrorism.

Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (01.16.10)
I suggest you take your complaint to the other 'apartheid' countries in the area first, such as...Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Kuwait, Libya, UAE etc. Israel is already on a democratic path on which those groups that would seek to harm us can count themselves excluded. Peace for Land, Baby

10. #4 and "apartheid"
tom ,   toronto, canada   (01.16.10)
benjamin, your comments reek of ignorance and arab rhetoric. the west bank and gaza were occupied, illegally, by jordan and egypt in 1948. israe conquered them in 1967, and has subsequently turned over control to the palestinian anarchy (plo). the arabs of those territories are under occupation, and have no more democratic rights in israel than mexicans, or iraqis, have in america. they do not live in israel. in fact, for over 40 years, they have had access to jobs and medical care, across the border in israel, which is certainly more than you, with your american-centric "constitution", grant to iraqis, or mexicans. before you lecture israel about rights, i dare you to grant "green cards" to every single al-qaeda terrorist who applies for one. apartheid was about the denial of rights to citizens based on race, which is a problem for you americans, much more than it is for israel, with its multi-cultural society that includes a sizeable, and prosperous, arab minority.
11. what's the rush?
tom ,   toronto, canada   (01.16.10)
the Vatican is pushing through the beatification of pius xii before the opening of the archival material in 2014. why? the Vatican also claims that pius xii "saved many jews" during ww2, but they are not willing to release lists of names of jews given refuge in catholic institutions. why not? they also claim that the beatification is an internal church matter, but so was 2,000 years of blood libels, and so was the inquisition...
12. Your choice ..
Benjamin   (01.16.10)
Either a Palestinian state or “Greater Israel" with Equal rights for the Palestinians
13. To Sarah B. #1 and the other apostles of hate and bigotry
J.U.Bengtsson ,   Sweden   (01.16.10)
Is Pius XII a suitable candidate for sainthood? I don't think so and he would not get my vote if I had one. Anyhow this is an internal matter for the Catholic Church. But as I see it, he could and should have done more to confront National socialism and its evils both before and during the war. He was certainly no sympathizer of Hitler and Nazism, but what he said and did was not enough. He missed an important opportunity simply because his priorities were wrong. Yes, he was responsible for the wellfare of Catholics in Italy, Germany and other parts of German controlled Europe, but he had also a responsibility to all Catholics and Christians in his generation and generations to come, not to be silent in the face of such evil. When the German bishops(most of them) begged him to remain silent and not provoke Hitler to anger and worse things, he should have told them with the words of President Truman: If you cannot stand the heat in the kitchen, then get out. Please resign if you wish, but this is a time when it is not allowed to be silent, but to boldly stand up for our faith, Christian values and our martyred Jewish brothers. But alas he never said and did that. He was called to be a martyr but choose to be a diplomat. Very human indeed, but not heroic. The bottom line is that as a pope he was to small for his times. That saddly being the case it is in no way justified to call him a Nazi or Nazi collaborator. And to use such epithets of Pope Benedict XVI is only indecent and evil. Evil slander and vilification does not benefit friendly relations between Jews and Christians.
14. The Pope, the Jews and the Popes...
Jojo ,   Prt WASH NY   (01.16.10)
" This is an internal affair " and I agree. As far as we Jews are concerned, beatification can be applied to every single pope since day one, and more. They are all the same. What have Jews done to Popes? - Nothing. What have Popes done to Jews? - everything ; including stealing from them, forced conversion, invented the ghetto, the identification patch, lies, hatred, torture, slaughter...... that I am aware off.
15. Cover up of sexual abuse
Ariela ,   Haifa   (01.16.10)
This pope was to stand trial in the US for a serious of cover ups of priests who had raped children under their care. The late president Bush interfered, Ratzinger was not put on trial.
16. To: No. 13
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.16.10)
So how would you characterize Pius XII in view of the fact that he presided over the Vatican at the time that the Vatican operated a ratline which hid wanted Nazi war criminals and issued them Vatican passports enabling them to leave Europe? Thousands escaped justice, thanks to Pius XII and his merry band of collaborators. It doesn’t exactly qualify him for sainthood, does it? I agree with you that "evil slander and vilification does not benefit friendly relations between Jews and Christians." But it is only slander if it is untrue. Everything that has been said about Pius XII and Ratzinger are true. Both richly deserve vilification. However, out of curiosity -- would your pity comment happen to apply to the nonsense that has emanated from Stockholm with respect to the Israeli-Arab conflict? I’m thinking of Sweden’s nonsensical declaration that East Jerusalem is the capital of a Palestinian state? I’m thinking also of Sweden’s comment that Israel was guilty of “war crimes” during Operation Cast Lead. No mention, of course, that Israel was responding to twenty years of Hamas-sent suicide bombings and eight years of daily missile barrages into Israeli population centers. Finally -- don't get too preachy. Sweden's collaboration with the Nazis during the Second World War is well-documented. Sweden's so-called "neutrality" is a fiction -- the fact of the matter is that the only reason that Germany did not invade Sweden was because they did not have to. The Swedish government and nearly all of its aristocracy were willing collaborators. Axel Wenner-Gren – ever hear of him? Folke Bernadotte – his Nazi collaboration was so patent and embarrassing to Sweden, that when it came to light following the war, the Swedish government packed him off to the United Nations. He came perilously close to prosecution as a war criminal because of his close association to Heinrich Himmler (may both their names be cursed throughout eternity). Bernadotte was only interested in brokering the release of Scandinavians interned in Nazi concentration camps. He absolutely drew the line at releasing Jews. Raoul Wallenberg, of blessed and honored memory, is the only decent thing that ever came out of Sweden during the Second World War, and the Swedish government was not at all happy with his acts to save Jewish lives during the War.
17. To 13 , in Sweden
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.16.10)
I agree with you . I have read [ the Holocaust and the Christian world ] : The question is not "was he evil , the question must be : was he a saint ? He was probably not evil , but CERTAINLY not a saint . When the Jews of Rome were rounded up , the Vatican intervened .....in favor of those who were converted to catholicism [ they were liberated ] , not in favor of ALL the arrested . Blind hatred towards pius XII or Benedict XVI is unfouded , as blind hatred always is . Telling that Benedict was a nazi is at least a distortion , it was almost mandatory to be a member of the hitlerjugend . Now , this being said i can understand those Italian Jews who oppose this visit . Benedict is too much supportive of sainthood of pius , and this is not only an internal question of the church . Jews are also concerned in this case . Pius XII did some things in favor of the Jews , not enough ? Certainly , he never condemned the nazi policies , he never mentioned the sufferings of the Jews . He chose diplomacy above suffering for the church . In Bulgaria , an ally of nazi germany , the Orthodox church opposed the nazi laws against the Jews . NO Bulgarian Jew was deported as a result , and the Church did'nt suffer . The story about the 477 Jews who were hiding at the Vatican was never denied , nor was Martin Gilbert , the historian , contradicted about this affirmation . If the pope did'nt intervene very much , there were many Catholic Clergy who did it . Many cloisters and other Catholic institutions opened their doors to Jews in order to hide them . Many of those were honored by Yad Vashem as Righteous , and they deserved it .

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.16.10)
I have no idea what a rat's foot looks like although I am sure that you do -- for which you have my heartfelt sympathies. Have you explored a surgical option? My husband is a maxillofacial plastic surgeon -- I'm sure he knows many surgeons who specialize in deformities of the foot ..... I'd be more than happy to get a referral for you. I'll restrict it to the United States, however, because you are far too cowardly to disclose your location. However, in the meantime, I'm sure socks and shoes help cover up your deformity, even if you probably do have a rather peculiar walk. Perhaps if you scampered as rats are wont to do, you would have a far more normal appearance.
19. To 16 , Sweden has accepted the Danish Jews
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.16.10)
who fled the nazi arrest in their country . More than 7000 were saved . Give me your references about Sweden not happy with Raoul Wallenberg's activity . Or is this again one of your inventions ?
20. Tell me why
Resistor   (01.16.10)
What does it matter to jews who gets beatified and made a saint? Doesit affect your religion??? No! Besides, as Sarah B often spews forth on these pages, you jews hate we Catholics SO much! So what is it to you who gets a Sainthood?? HUH???

Resistor   (01.16.10)
Your "husband" has nothing to do with this Sarah. You however have your rat's foot in your mouth
24. 20 resistor , YES Jews are concerned
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.16.10)
Because to beatify a pope who was silent during the darkest hours of modern Jewish history , is at least indecent . Because beatifying a pope who helped nazi criminals to escape to south America concern's us , Jews too . Because he did NOT condemn the slovak priest-prime minister who was sending Jews to their death , because he did'nt condemn the Catholic croat clergy that supported the extermination of half a million Serbs , more than 30,000 Jews and a vast quantity of Roma's . Those are the REASONS why Jews are concerned . Yes , he ordered the Vatican clergy to open the doors to "non Aryans" who were searching a refuge and saved so 477 Jews from deportation [ as long as there is no reliable source that contradicts it , we can accept it ] Yes , he did NOT forbid Catholic institutions to shelter and save Jews . But those "positive facts" can NOT counterbalance his silence or support . And this is said WITHOUT hate as others do .
25. this is a serious issue - Major antisemitism
AY_Lamb ,   Globestan   (01.16.10)
at the Pentagon. Left over bush, sentiment, christo-sycophants / supremacist want total control and hegemony overs Jewish populations. They aim to reduce numbers down to manageable levels and if customary methods aren't effective plans are drawn up to take more extreme measure for population management. They see the Jewish threat as the most severe and beguiling.
26. Why I don't care
Miransky   (01.16.10)
To me this is an internal Catholic matter that we Jews should have nothing to do with. In my opinion the current Pope was never a Nazi sympathizer. He was a German kid who was drafted. That being said, to beatify Pius 12 is a slap in the face to Jews, and especially Italian Jews whose friends and families were sent away from Rome to death. But it is nothing new for the Catholic Church to exhibit insensitivity toward Jews. They have done far worse to us over the centuries than just be insensitive. There is nothing the Church can do to rectify their sins over the years. The Church is, in my opinion, evil, although "some of my best friends are Catholics."
27. Beatification is NOT just internal
blash ,   Los Angeles   (01.16.10)
People who eat what the Vatican is saying about beatification being an "internal affair" need to realize what beatification really means. Making someone a saint is the validation by the Church that someone was a truly righteous man; that everything he did was for the betterment of himself and the world. Ergo making Pius a saint is the Vatican, today, saying that it is OK to stand by and let Jews be murdered. That's why it's such an issue, because it goes to the Vatican's stand on Israeli politics that they apparently don't believe that Israel has a right to defend herself.
28. beatification of pius xii, Who is in Hell @ this time
Dav ,   IL   (01.16.10)
Well G-D, Jesus Alla and all up there in the heavens Know how many people the pope could of saved - If he was a true man of the cloth. On earth he can be beatified, but on the other side this will be striped. Regards Just another guy who lost family that could of been saved by a Pope well respected in Germany.
29. None of Our Business
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (01.16.10)
