One is enough
32. Please stop calling these buses "kosher"
Rahel ,   Jerusalem   (01.20.10)
These buses are not kosher, not mehadrin -- but segregated. Please, let's call them by their correct name.
33. No room for debate
Loyal Jew ,   Efrat   (01.20.10)
The leading rabbis said that men and women must be separated in public areas. Halacha says they must be obeyed even if they say right is left etc. So how can people who call themselves religious take the othe side and serve the Avis and Naftuses whe are bringing down Judaism in the "Jewish" state?
34. Buses
Safta M ,   Netivot   (01.20.10)
I travel the Mehadrin bus 492 from Netivot to Jerusalem regularly and I have never had any problems. I get on by the front door. When I travel with my husband we sit wherever we want.
35. To #9 Let the orthodox buy their own busses?
herman ,   NY US   (01.21.10)
Here is the culprit, Israel wont allow anyone to compete with egged buses. anti jewish (ironically calling themselves Israelis) are screaming discrimination, when its they who are the unwelcome guests in Israel, taking over a religious country, controlling it, preventing competition then screaming Taliban! woman discrimination! you all must be eating a lot of un-kosher pork to become so stupid.
36. Good and while your at it rebel against the cult...
Josh   (01.21.10)
...of protectcia. Israel loses millions because this anti-Torah unrighteous cult oppresses everone in a cult. Unproductive and idiocy rule because the best people for the job are not favored by the cult. It is an economic nightmare and the world only sees the end result. Where do we rate now? Behind India? They use this leverage to spy and coerce people in every aspect of their lives. They have no concept of Torah and they are no longer Jewish. The protect the server of bacon but not the one who makes society better. In an age of developing technology that intrudes in every aspect of life, this type of power needs to be disbanded. Too much power!! Righteous and fair measures is Torah. A marketplace free from agism, racism, sexism, vendetta, and cults. Politicians and good Torah people unite to address the problem and remove unrighteous oppression on our people. Let my people go. - Tower of babel fools rebel against G-d. One law for eveyone!!
37. #32 Amen Rahel
Josh   (01.21.10)
Where were the mention of machizahs when the Hebrew left Egypt? Did they carry them through the desset after they stopped to don kippahs? Its not Kosher but rather Chet. Devarim 4:2 states no one can add to Torah. This is a Chet addition of some type of "holy" pagan cult concept that separates our people with screens. Kosher has nothing to do with it.
38. from a passenger on the buses
Elana ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.21.10)
Something strange seems to be going on here. I have been using the #2, #1 and #3 bus lines for decades, and have never seen any such incidents. I've asked other passengers if they've ever witnessed the kind of violence or rudeness being complained about and haven't yet found anyone who has seen anything him- or herself. Men (most of them Palestinian Arabs) frequently sit down in the back, and women frequently sit up front, usually because they're with their husbands. The buses often are boarded by secular women in pants etc. and in my experience, have always been ignored. The entire story of violent reactions on the part of haredim seems strangely uncorroborated. As someone points out in another talkback, Haredi-owned Mehadrin lines were discontinued for the sake of the Egged Bus Company monopoly, which didn;t want to lose the business. If there are in fact emotionally or mentally disturbed haredi individuals who have accosted non-haredi passengers for not respecting the separation between men and women, they are just that: disturbed individuals, of which there are some in every population. They do not represent the haredi viewpoint, or Judaism.
39. Own bus lines ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.21.10)
I think that exploitation of bus lines is subjected to a tender . In my town we had the Dan "monopoly" , now it's Kavim . Maybe a they can propose something when a next tender is issued . Egged has lost her monopoly on many lines , so that's not an excuse anymore If charidim would exploit their own bus lines who will pay for their losses ? Egged offers cheap fares on their "religious" lines [ Bne brak-Elad-Jerusalem-Arad and so ] paid by the users of "normal" lines

Birdi ,   Israel   (01.21.10)
Avi thats real low of you to ask Bunnie where she was during...... We need the to have the support of the Jews who live outside Israel. Not every single Jew can reside in Israel, you should realize this.
41. "disturbed individuals"
# 38 Elana   (01.21.10)
All religious zealots, from whatever denomination, sect or cult, are disturbed individuals by default.
42. Birdi , # 40
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.22.10)
You forget that those living abroad NEED Israel too . For them supporting Israel is a kind of insurance , in the case of ......they will always have a place where to go . But this does'nt allow them to put their nooses in our daily life . This they can ONLY do when living here .
43. Herman at 35 , You are IGNORANT about buses
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.22.10)
Living far from here you don't know about what you talk . Egged has lost many lines to other companies . Jerusalem-Beth Shemesh or Tel Aviv-Ashdod [ as examples ] are no more their monopoly . There are other companies , Metropolin , Connex and so who are exploiting those , and other lines . The same with Dan buses , they too have lost many lines , in the North , Tel Aviv and in my town .
44. It happened to me
Rachel ,   New York, USA   (01.26.10)
To all you naysayers, I was on the #56 (Mehadrin which I did not know even what that was) sitting in the front, on the way to my second JOB (i don't think the religious know what that word means) when a man about 50 years old, bearded and be-suited came to me and told me VERY rudely that I needed to get up because I wasn't ALLOWED TO SIT THERE. I was so taken aback tears sprang to my eyes. To be treated like a second class citizen hurts, and I have since moved back to America where I appreciate my complete freedom to ride whatever buses I choose. Segregated buses need to stop.
45. To Herman
Jeff ,   Miami Beach, USA   (03.15.10)
Hey Herman (nice Hebrew name by the way): Israel is not a religious country. It's supposed to be a secular democracy. The vast majority of the religious -especially these Haredim - do nothing to support or defend the state (obviously datiim l'umiim do, but they're not the ones with these extremists). How dare you sit in NY and judge these secular Jews who have sacrificed for Israel. If all of those "unwelcome" guests, also known as loyal Israelis, were to leave, then Israel would become Palestine. And you have the nerve to call them stupid.
