Please do not generalize. Most of the immigrants from the former Soviet Union are productive to the state of Israel. They are educated, they serve in the military, they work, they pay taxes, and they contribute to society. Yes, a minority of them may not be Jewish. It doesn't matter though, as their next generations here will be Jewish. And while some of those non-Jews are indeed antisemitic and should be kicked out, they are but a small fraction, so at the bottom line we could say that the immigration from the former Soviet Union, for the most part, has been good for us. In contrast, this cannot be said about the African refugees, who have made very little contribution, if any, to Israel. The only thing they do is consume the state's resources, keep our police busy, and in the long run pose a major social and economic threat. If their immigration tide and birth rates continue like this, very soon we'll have the same slums here like the cities in Europe. This has nothing to do with racism, this is simply the facts speaking.

As much as our hearts tell us we should be generous and gracious to refugees, the truth is laid out in the article. I agree with TAHL, not regarding the Russian immigrants - I don't know what the statistics are on their success - that the refugees cause more problems than advantages. I'm not sure Israel can afford to absorb them in the education and social welfare system. The public schools are already horribly over-crowded and lacking resources, and not just in lower-economic areas, but in upper class areas too. These people are also raising the crime level here, and straining an already strained to the limit police dept. I believe something must be done to send many of them back to their countries, and keep others from coming. It is true as many people say that a people that experienced terrible anti semitism and went through horrible experiences must have more compassion, but I am not sure that Israel has the resources to take these people in.
