A Jerusalem Post article listed the funding by the British govt. at hundreds of thousands(euros, dollars, shekels, not sure). A lesser amount was funded by the Netherlands' govt. When the Neth. ambassador was asked, he said he knew nothing about it. In other words, no comment. This is all part of the British govt.'s use of soft power to get Israel out of Judea, Samaria, and east Jerusalem and form another Arab state( the 23rd.). I believe the British are the best in the world at the implementation of soft power. Even the name "Breaking the Spell" is excellent propaganda. Tony Blair basically said if Israel doesn't succumb, reduce its already tiny land mass to allow for a terror state in its heartland, there'd be "a hell of a fight." Breaking the Spell is one of Britain's contributions to this "hell of a fight."

Clearly a country which considers itself moral and enlightened, cannot afford to have its troops performing these alleged (and I repeat - alleged) incidents. After all we derive our strength by being morally superior to our enemies, and the moment we'd start looking like them, would be the moment we'd lose our edge, and lose our right to be here. In this respect, something must be done to curb such behavior. However, If these female soldiers indeed speak the truth, then turning to an outside source like "Breaking the Silence" is a grave mistake. When these allegations are made public by such leftist organizations (who have a clear agenda to vilify the IDF whenever they can), they cause irreversible damage to Israel's image, and fall like ripe fruit into the Israel-haters' hands, who often exaggerate them even further. I see no reason why these female soldiers couldn't have come discreetly to their senior commanders, and alerted them about the problem. Our moral army would have had no trouble probing this issue, and issuing clear orders to stop such behavior. This would have achieved the target just the same, without the completely unnecessary damage to Israel's image.

I have served in the army and I am sure there are some incidents of abuse by individual 'meatheads' your always going to have that in every army or body of uniforms. As society is never a 100% moral and just, you will always have a criminal element so it is across the board. I dont know how many of these incidents are true but what I DO know for a fact is the many instances of humane and kindness shown by our boys and girls in uniform. I will openly declare that for every negative incident there is an opposite of over a hundred positive incidences.....only of course you will never read of them let alone hear about them as theyre not news worthy but expected from any decent human being. I know of many instances of compassion, consideration and caring for another human even if percieved or openly the enemy. This report clearly is not the public face of our people in uniform. I wonder just how "morally superior" were the massacres in Maalot, the Park hotel, the Dolphinarium, the Ben Yehuda market, the Matza restaurant, Dizengoff, Cafe Moment, about a dozen buses blowing up, and thousands of rockets raining on Israel's northern and southern towns - all of these incidents specifically targeting to kill as many innocent Israeli civilians as possible. I have little doubt that many things go on between soldiers and palestinians that should not, this is the most cowardly way of exposing it. I'm not sure if its a ploy for attention or glorification but if I were an officer from their unit reading this I would recommend a post-service court martial for their behavior. I have witnessed expulsion from elite units and military jail sentences for much less than what they're describing. They were weak during their service and went against their own moral codes to fulfill what they thought was the norm in their unit. These sorts of people (בלי יכולת הבכנה) should be excluded from combat forces.

Anyone who has actually spent time in the Occupied Territories will find these stories normal. Abuse of Palestinians by soldiers is commonplace, and the incidents described here are just the tip of the iceberg. I find it surprising that some place are not yet aware of this--thought the denials of the obvious by other talkbackers are a depressing phenomenon.
