1. More Low Quality Smollani Propaganda pretending to be a film
Tomer ,   Herzeliyya   (02.02.10)
What about an Israeli film about Jewish history for a change? The Bar Kochba Revolt? Rambam & the Golden Age in Spain? The Life and Times of Theodore Herzl? War of Independence? 6 Day War? No, we just get more of the same branja -sponsored selfhating garbage
2. To be nominated it must be anti Israel and deal with arabs

3. Its not an Israeli film
Tarik ,   Boston, MA USA   (02.02.10)
The film is made by a Palestinian and is about Palestinians living in a predominantly Palestinian area, even if that area is currently occupied by Zionists. It is a Palestinian film in every sense.
4. #3; It's about Jaffa, that's inside the 67 border. Not Pale
(02.02.10)
5. I wonder if any of the above authors have watched the film..
Mizrahi ,   London   (02.02.10)
In respose to #3 - The film is a collaboration between two Israelis - one Jewish, one Arab. Yes, it is mostly centred around the Arab community, and is mostly in Arabic. However, the film touches on numerous issues that are not confined to Palestinians or their rightful territory. Moreover, funding for the film I believe (Correct me if I'm wrong here) was mostly provided by Israeli cinematic intitutions. In response to #2 - There is nothing "self-hating" about the film at all. In fact, if you ask me, it depicts Arabs in quite a negative light (there are numerous scenes of violence, drug-affiliated deals and consumption, deception, inter-Palestinian social tensions) In my opinion, the film is fantastic and is put together in such a complex and labyrinthine way that it is worthy of praise and adulation, whatever the content of the dialogue. I sincerely hope that this wins the award, and receives a greater audience/distribution. Israeli cinema is on the up, and is an excellent medium to demonstrate the political and social problems of the country. We would much rather these reflections are viewed in a mainstream context, instead of documentaries concerning settlers, demolition of Arab homes and so on, which will ultimately catagorise all Israelis in the same horrendous box.
6. Mizrahi, I agree completely
Israeli   (02.02.10)
The film is complex and excellent. Good for them. Also, Israeli Arabs refer to themselves as Palestinian. Their nationality is Israeli, their ethnicity is Palestinian.
7. to #3 hahaha you can read right
ghostq   (02.03.10)
the film is by Scandar Copti and Yaron Shami, Yaron is jewish Israeli and Copti I reckon Arab, just wonder if it's the same as copti chritians. mmm
8. Jaffa is a Palestinian city whether you admit it or not
Tarik ,   Boston, MA USA   (02.03.10)
And to 7, the film is made by one Palestinian Christian and one Jewish Israeli--I suggest you do some research before posting, rather than guessing based on people's names. As I said it is about Palestinians in a Palestinian town. It is a Palestinian film.
9. to #8 nop, Jaffa was't arab 1600 years ago

Nachum ,   Minneapolis USA   (02.05.10)
"Ajami" may be a fabulous piece of cinematic art; I can't judge without seeing it. But I;ll bet its nomination for an Oscar was given a tremendous boost by what, according to Ynet's news report, is a theme that makes Israel and Jews look bad. Mah hadash?
