3. Snow in Israel nothing new
david ,   haifa, Israel   (02.04.10)
Mt Heirmon gets snow every year. Elsewere on the Golan and even in Tzfat and Jerusalem snow might fall once or twice in a year. I have seen snow in the middle of the Galilee, and in the Negev, too. Usually just falls and melts, but might stay for a day. Nothing weird so far about this year's snow!
4. snow and response to David

David, there was snow in the Jezeral Valley and surrounding area during the winter of 92, when the Kinnerit was filled to over flowing.

I remember the snow-covered (~2mm) fields near Q.Ata in 1992, and our guys living around Haifa Univ. came to work with like 1 cm of snow on the roofs of their cars. And there was some wet snow several times even as low as in Q.Eliezer since I live in Haifa. In early 2000ies it even stayed for a while, wet as it was.
7. 5. " lots of more snow " LOL!

8. We still have snow on the ground from Nov
Al   (02.04.10)
It may still be there by Pesach. Damn it was cold this morning. I heat my duplex at $4K per year..It was a cool 14C in the house. Got to make sure the pipes dont freeze. As far as the tenant..He complains its too warm for him....Told him to pitch a tent in the backyard and pretend he's homeless..That was the end of that conversation. alokhere10@yahoo.com

10. Given equal precip, snow better than rain
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (02.04.10)
The snows will melt more gradually, allowing for gradual absorption into the aquifers and less chance of flooding. But given the outstanding water deficit, I'm sure Israel is thrilled however it arrives. I still have a picture of a wet snowfall in Jerusalem from '71 from outside the old municipality building. I and a few ulpan classmates had a brief impromptu snowball fight during morning break. Ironically, with the Winter Olympics about to begin in Vancouver, they're contending with a snow shortfall. Maybe Israel should install one of its new gen' snow-making machines.
