1. only two options. death or prison in isolation forever.
ralph   (02.04.10)
2. Keep him in solitary confinement
Haifa granny   (02.04.10)
until hell freezes over.
3. I refuse to read the article; no acknowledgment deserved
Fred Nerks ,   Wagga, Aus.   (02.04.10)
This scum should be taken out back and shot.
4. hyprocrites
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (02.04.10)
There is no doubt that Amir is serving a just sentence, but he has a point. Is Amir worse than Samir Kuntar? The answer is no, but because some Israelis view him as a hero, Kuntar received a free education and a social life, and was eventually pardoned by Shimon Peres.
5. discrimination
dov shurin ,   jerusalem Israel   (02.04.10)
I'm Dov Shurin, the composer of "Zachreini Na," considered a song of vengance and sung by soldiers all over the army and all over the world. The state has stopped allowing me a government press card, even though I speak on US radio daily for years, because of this song. The shabak has declared me a danger to state security, which couldn't be further from the truth. Therefore I understand what Amir is complaining about. My situation is nothing less than state vengance!!!
6. His Wife and Child Are a Punishment of His Making
meir elazar   (02.04.10)
Yigal Amir made his own punishment when he married the women and when she bore a son. Hopefully there will be no visits and she will never be able to divorce and remarry. Both she and her son will be outcasts forever in Israeli society. Who would employ them? Who would associate with them? How many time will the son be called "Ben Rotzeach", be tormented and beaten up by other kids? Not only will he not enjoy the benefits of marriage and children but it will add to his suffering knowing what misery he has created for them by his association. Israel is a small country with nowhere to hide. And they will suffer forever which punishment by proxy for Amir
7. We must have a REAL investigation into Rabin assassination.
Chaim ,   Israel   (02.04.10)
It can't rationally be claimed that the Rabin assassination is solved when there are literally hundreds of inconsistencies, many serious, with the "lone rightist" theory. We can't let this theory stand simply because it benefits the left. This could well be one of countless hoaxes used to besmirch Jewish nationalists. We must have a REAL investigation into the Rabin assassination. We must clear up this matter once and for all.
8. Cruel and unusual punishment
Adam ,   Raanana   (02.04.10)
Its amazing how they let the child-murdering Kuntar go while Amir gets tortured by his own people. This is nothing short of mafia-style vengeance being exacted on this man. Yes he deserves to be punished but not any more than other prisoners.
9. Amir
Birdi ,   Israel   (02.04.10)
"I dont have a right for anything & I'm not asking for anything" "I wish to be held in a wing where I can pray like a normal human being,at the synagogue, like any other prisoner." If thats not asking, the what is it ?? He has the nerve to call himself a "normal human being" He should be in solitary for the rest of hismiserable life &should never be allowed to give interviews to the media.
10. complaining yigal?
eddie ,   london uk   (02.04.10)
whilst I agree that he should be given equal rights to any other prisoner (murder), he cannot complain - he was a Law student, he took a gun, premeditated, and pulled the trigger. Whether it was his gun that killed Rabin - i dont think so - but he was part of a conspiracy - and he knew the consequencs.
11. If Barghouti can speak to the press why not Amir?
Big Moe ,   Jerusalem   (02.04.10)
Amir killed one, Barghouti dozens. The Left are so hypocritical. They would shake Arafat and Abbass' paws but Amir should be "shot in the head." Why should we realease the bombers of the Dophinarium who killed 30 people in a sick prisoner exchange and never feel a moment of nausea but have all this anger at Amir? The Left should go speak to some terror victims and set some prespective.
12. The killing was wrong for sure--but we have our land,&many
Israeli lives have ,   been spared.Israel   (02.04.10)
13. "...where I can pray, like a normal human being"
(02.04.10)
well yigal, killing the prime minister sorta removes you from the category of a "normal human being", which is why any benefit you receive and each day you continue to live is an undeserved gift. complaining about anything is not really your place or right.
14. Amir, anointed by god to kill
Jojo ,   PRTWASHNY   (02.04.10)
Then allowed to have a child while in jail. Now his child can claim proudly and rightly so " my father, the killer " ( Guinness of world record?) --- Regrets?, a deeper conversation warranted. Disgusting...! Only in Israel can this "impromptu " circus be erected, Congratulation.
15. I like it when the other writers call for "Strict Justice"
Roland Seener ,   London England   (02.04.10)
We pray that "Hashem" does not judge us with the Attribute of "Strict Justice",but also tempers it with "Mercy".Blood is blood.trailing back to the time of "Kozo Yakomoto"we have had "MURDERERS" released in Prisoner Exchanges.right to Mr.Kuntar,Why do these people have such vengeful feelings? If they were "G"D" we wouldn"t need "Rosh Hashana" and "Yom Kippur"to wipe away lesser sins. We"d have been in the "Black Book"straight away !.Whatever wrong Amir has done,I hope redeeming features will allow him to rejoin society in a constructive and peaceful way
16. Fools, learn the real facts
Shalom Hartman   (02.04.10)
Yigal Amir did NOT kill Rabin, though he may think he did. There is much proof that he could not have made the bullet holes. Ask Peres he'll tell you who killed Rabin. Yigal Amir is the sacrificial lamb of the nation.
17. # 11
Birdi ,   Israel   (02.04.10)
Barghouti did not speak to the media directly. He spoke through his lawyer.
18. An inconvenient truth:
David ,   Hartford USA   (02.04.10)
Israel let's child-and-adult-slaughtering Arab psychopaths go free while keeping Jewish adult-killing psychopaths locked up in solitary. Oh well, the State has to juggle many priorities. If Amir spends the next 50 years in solitary, who really cares? He murdered the PM. As for all the other prisoners- they should not feel entitled to prayer time or kosher food. Once taken out of society, all your rights are gone. You did the crime, do the time and stop complaining. Amir should rot in solitary- and years from now, when he no longer takes his food tray, the cell should be bricked up as a reminder to everyone else. Not quite 'The Man in The Iron Mask,' but the effect is valuable.
19. #6 Meir. Your post is twisted and sadistic.
Chaim ,   Israel   (02.04.10)
Your post is full of twisted hatred and sadism not only towards Yigal but to his innocent wife and child. For all we know Yigal may be innocent as well. His trial was a ridiculous, likely politically motivated, sham. It begs for a new trial and a real investigation into the Rabin assassination. It's true Israel is a tiny nation. However, thankfully the vast majority of Israelis don't share your cruel and sick attitude. You must be a very miserable person.
20. State has all the right
Yochi ,   USA   (02.04.10)
He did not murder Yitzhak the bus driver or Yitzhak the doctor. He murdered Yitzhak the elected representative of the Israeli democratic system. Therefore, he committed two crimes. He murdered a man, choosing to act as if he were G-d, deciding when a life should be extinguished, and he attacked the democratic system - and every citizen of Israel was his victim. One man decided he had the right to override what all the people democratically decided. What if each of us decided likewise for whatever reason? Thus, his crime is ongoing and in a sense it is still being carried out every day because he intervened in the democratic process. He has shown himself for what he is by this one act, and he must be seen forever as a threat. The State should confine him anyway it chooses.
21. SHIN BET HAS SOMETHING TO HIDE
DIRTY SHIRT ,   USA   (02.04.10)
I wonder why the Shin Bet won't allow Amir to conduct interviews. I wonder why they insist that he be kept in solitary confinement. Yigal this has nothing to do with punishment. It has everything to do with the Shin Bet and Shimon Peres ensuring that their conspiracy stays under wraps. In fact it is quite easy for them to do, even in the face of a mountain of evidence to the contrary. All it takes is a willing leftist media, and a few judicial elitists. No one will say a word, that is, UNTIL THEY BECOME THE NEXT TARGET.
22. DID AMIR KILL RABIN??
Yehiel ,   Teaneck, NJ   (02.04.10)
ALL THE EVIDENCE SHOWS THAT HE DID NOT!! ASK THE ISRAELI SECURITY SERVICES TO ELABORATE ON THEIR ACCUSATIONS AND EXPOSE THEIR COVER-UPS
23. # 15
Birdi ,   Israel   (02.04.10)
May be in UK the killer of the Prime Minister would not get life in prison so he could "rejoin society in a constructive & peaceful way." Amir will not rejoin any society. He will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Its got nothing to do with Hashem,it has everything to do with justice & paying for the despicable crime he committed.
24. # 16
Birdi ,   Israel   (02.04.10)
Pray tell us why he could not have made the bullet holes??
25. keep him there forever
sam ,   ashdod   (02.04.10)
keep him in solitary...better shoot him. a piece of garbage...not even sorry for what he did and yet he has a wife and a child?????
26. murder aside...
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (02.04.10)
Yes, the government is discriminatory against Yigal Amir and it does seem that they are acting in a punitive fashion. He should be entitled to the same rights that all terrorists held in prison enjoy. Which is probably better than he is doing now.
27. Why can serial race murderers of Jews barghouti, Kuntar,
Jae ,   Lynn US   (02.04.10)
arafat getting nobel peace prizes, millions of dollars, or at the least not in solitary confinement for 15 years....but this jewish man who allegedly shot a leader who brought on the misery of 15 years of oslo peace and INsecurity...this guy gets confined? where is the justice? where is the democracy? where are the rules? how is he a danger? he is harmless in jail. whats he going to do? lift a 10,000 pound wall and walk out? He is not an imposing person. He should not be in solitary confinement for 15 years.
28. Barghouti can give media interviews, shmooze on his cell,
JAE ,   Lynn USA   (02.04.10)
walk around, prey freely, mingle....he is not a threat to security? Israel you have to be evenhanded. You release apes like sami kuntar, you shake hands with henchman like arafat, you give special prisoner status to terrorists like barghouti...yet 1 Jew who shot the architect of Israels 15 years of woe (oslo)...he is in solitary confinement 15 years? Israel is acting undemocratic, un evenly, and meshuganah.
29. Ibrahim Hamed killed 95 people in Isreal.
tom ,   usa   (02.04.10)
he was only give 5 years in solitary confinment. where is justice.
30. #19 Chaim - I STAND BY EVERY WORD I WROTE
meir elazar   (02.04.10)
He was caught at the scene of the crime with the gun!
