1. Sounds wonderful

Train to Kiryat Shmona. Highway 6 to Kiryat Shmona. Yet will this fantasy ever come true???
2. Investment plan in NIS millions?
Naftush ,   Israel   (02.07.10)
Shouldn't that be billions? The millions cited wouldn't even cover one year's overruns.
3. Sounds great - but
clk ,   USA   (02.07.10)
what about the train between Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv?
4. Show me the money!!

We've heard about upgrades to the periphery (especially the Negev region) for ... well before I was born over 25 years ago. I remember as a kid hearing we're going to be able to get to Tel Aviv in an hour or so from Beer Sheva. I'm all grown up now, and there isn't even a proper plan in sight. The railroads share a few problems: 1. speed of train (including number of stops). 2. Location (if it's just outside the city, as in some cities, just getting to them can take 15-20 mins, making a journey much longer). Of course there are a million other problems, but those seem to cover the main two. My family has been waiting and hearing about these budgets for over 25 years... If I one day have kids, hopefully I'll be able to say that it all began to change in 2010... but considering the past promises, I'm holding my breath. PS.. how about starting on those long upheld projects while you are at it (such as Ashdod hospital - authorized over 30 years ago, yet not built to this day). GDP and Tel Aviv distance is not everything. You want local economies to improve as well? Develop local areas by building education (university or specialised college) and health infrastructure in every place of over 100,000 people!

7. not enough funding
railenthusiast ,   austria   (02.08.10)
$13.6 million is nothing. It's not enough even for just one of these projects. Just so you have an idea about costs: In Austria they recently built a 3.5 km long tunnel and a road to connect it with a freeway. Costs: €150 million. a train from the Krayot via Nazareth to Kiryat Shmona would cost at least a three digit million dollar sum. I am absolutely convinced Israel needs to invest that money. It's important to strengthen the periphery .
8. all this for USD14M - wow it's a miracle
