1. Livni, you are immoral for your moral failiings in serving
Jae ,   Lynn USA   (02.09.10)
the Jewish people. under your watch Israel grew exponentially worse off...qasssams, shalit, '06 war, int'l standing. You brought the environement for your own arrest in UK upon yourself for your appeasement policies. give an inch, lose a yard. thats your legacy.
2. Livni
frank ,   Israel   (02.09.10)
even though I find her exceedingly hot (ok it is probably a power thing) and I never agree with her, but this time, well, she happens to be right. We should restrict voting to people who are living in the country only. We are the ones who have a direct relationship with each and every moment as it happens. Some yored who has been living abroad for 15 years and talks the talk is really of no interest to me and shouldn't be for the country as far as the political makeup. They made their choices, which I have no problem with, and they shouldn't be able to eat their cake and have it too....that is just being a pig....
3. livni scared, not a leader. livni=israels eviceration
jae ,   lynn usa   (02.09.10)
4. Why can't an Israeli citizen who lives abroad and care about
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (02.09.10)
Israel come "home" once every four years to vote? If she/he cares so much about our country, surely this person can come and vote while visiting Israel, something the law presently permit.
5. why not? they are all israeli mafia who came out. natural al
robin   (02.09.10)
NATURAL ALIE
6. There are two sides to this
Ben Israel ,   Kiryat Arba   (02.09.10)
The USA who we want so badly to imitate with gay parades, sex and gambling in the streets, desecration of shabbos "equality""pluralism" etc. allows it's overseas citizens to vote BUT those like the Olmert boys, Avraham Burg, Yuval Rabinetc. who chose to be YORDIM should not have a say in our present to future, they chose to leave us let them keep their opinions to themselves! PERHAPS the bill should allow those who for medical reasons or who are just visiting for a simcha or business should be allowed to vote only in an emergency
7. Right to vote abroad
Barry Norman ,   London UK   (02.09.10)
The USA, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, to name but a few allow ex-pats to vote in their general elections. What;s immoral about that and why would Israelis abroad having this vote be immoral? The lady's confused. Calling for the destruction of Hamas in Gaza after denying there was an humanitarian crisis in Gaza, ignoring that such a demand would only worsen the humanitarian crisis she denied existed, when everyone else knew than and knows now that that crisis is very real - now that's immoral
8. I voted for Bibi But in this case Licbi Is right.
Vardina   (02.09.10)
Deserters should not make decisions on our behalf. Those who are really concerned should cone to Israel to vote.
9. what a bunch of loossers are these israeli leaders
masjnoe   (02.09.10)
they will do anything to prove that israel is something, but no vein. israel is looking for a way to survive by killing palestinians, by grabbing lands and threathen other countries with military fire power.
10. immoral
av ,   london .uk   (02.09.10)
why immoral because you know you will get zero votes and nothing todo with morrality you hypocrite
11. I don't think they should vote after 10 years abroad
Dr. Propaganda ,   Israel   (02.09.10)
Maybe it's OK to let people that left up to 2 years ago to vote. Or if they visit Israel frequently. Why? Look at the local news coverage of Israel. If I'd watch BBC for a few years abroad without another perspective, I'd return to Israel and throw stones in Bilin. Propaganda against Israel is very strong in European media, it can poison the minds of young Israeli children.
12. voting abroad
mother from north   (02.09.10)
let anyone living abroad that wants to vote 1- compulsory serve one month reserve duty yearly 2-pay Israeli income taxes ...let's see then how many ex-patriots are willing to take part of the burden of living here for the priviledge of voting
13. right to vote
Gilchik ,   Florida   (02.09.10)
Why does it work for Americans to have absentee voting while living abroad? It does not seem to be a problem with democracy. Decisions made by Israeli officials and policy makers have a direct impact in the lives of all israelis, not only the ones residing at the moment in Israel. As an Israeli living abroad who proudly served in the IDF for many years and who has paid taxes regularly and continues to support financially and as an activist the state of Israel, I should have the right to vote. The American example is a wonderful rubric for how this could be done effectively.
14. Her she goes again!
David ,   Toronto/Tel Aviv   (02.09.10)
This Livni really gets my blood boiling! I hold both Canadian and Israeli passports, and I am a citizen of both countries EQUALLY. I have just as much a say as to whom should govern a country that I'M a citizen no matter where I am living at the time of an election...I have caste my ballot at the Canadian embassy in Israel for the most recent Canadian elections, and I will cast my ballot for the next Israeli election no matter where I am. THAT IS DEMOCRACY! To have a say no matter what livni!
15. Immoral vote
Tom Klein ,   Manly & Australia   (02.09.10)
Why is my vote immoral but a shaliah's vote legal?
16. Situation is bad today too
Ilan ,   Ariel   (02.09.10)
You can live 360 of 365 days a year in Israel but if you are out of the country on the day of an election you have no vote, while someone can fly in for the day and there is no bar to them voting. That is simply wrong. This proposal is not right either though. Only citizens who are actually living in Israel should vote and if they need to be away that week they should have absentee ballets.
17. Yes Tzipi, it is moral to tax without voting rights...????
(02.09.10)
18. Livni is a damn liar
Ruri   (02.09.10)
many of us live abroad precisely because of these red diaper doper dingbats
19. Overseas voting
Ze'ev ,   Eshkolot, Israel   (02.09.10)
There seems to be some value in the idea of overseas voting for Israeli citizens. Like David (#14) stated, voting in the embassy or consulate seems like a good compromise. For example, restricting overseas voting to those places would limit fraudulent voting. Overseas voting could also be used, under those circumstances, for draft law and criminal law enforcement: Once you walk into an embassy or consulate you are officially "in Israel" and subject to Israeli law. If you have evaded the draft, or miluim, or have an outstanding warrant for your arrest, that's a perfect time and place to put the law to work.
20. Livni's right.
ajax ,   Israel   (02.09.10)
Funny how the same people who (rightfully) slam refusenikim, tax evaders, etc now support allowing them to vote in Israeli elections. I believe only Israelis with temporary occupation abroad should be allowed to vote. This could easily be cross-checked by the type of visa they're holding.
21. IMMORAL?
Joe ,   Alon Shvut Israel   (02.09.10)
Devious, clever, perhaps. It's rather sad that an attorney and former Minister of Justice doesn't know what is "immoral".Moreover, would she label the USA as immoral as it allows its citizens who live overseas to vote?
22. Only Israelis living in Israel should vote
Avi ,   Israe;   (02.09.10)
israel is a unique country with specific problems. Only Israelis who serve in the army and pay taxes should have the vote. it is undemocratic that Israelis (charideem) who do not live in Israel, do not pay taxes in Israel can influnence our lives in Israel. it is us the Israeli public that has to live with the consequences and outcome not them. The charideem can not talk of democracy when they do not play by the rules of democracy. You serve in the army for us, you pay for our life style, yet they have more rights than i do as a reserve soldier and a tax payer ( in the millions i might add)
23. Must be committed to vote
Simantov ,   Jerusalem   (02.09.10)
There are a few instances where none residents should be allowed to vote i.e. offshore work or illness. But if an Israeli is not committed to living in Israel, then they should not have a part in deciding the government and everydat life in Israel.
24. #6 ben sorry if i offend you
Avi ,   Israel   (02.09.10)
I am an Israeil, i employ over 250 people i pay large amouts of tax i provide a living for others and encourage investment in Israel, i serve in the army, i dontate large sums to charaties, i have 2 children yet i was born gay. My daughter is a doctor who saves lifes and serves in the IDF. Sorry if it offends you that i do not have my basic human rights yet there are those who do not serve in the army, do not work, do not pay tax, do not live in this country and they should have democratic rights. Once again i am sorry that my very being offends you.
25. Only diplomats can vote abroad which is wrong
jason ,   haifa israel   (02.09.10)
If you are israeli and promoting jewish causes or promoting israel abroad you can't even vote unless you are a diplomat.
26. This would be limited to voting at israel embassies
jason ,   haifa israel   (02.09.10)
So lets not get carried away with the fraud. In the U.S you can vote even if you are away on business you just have to be a citizen. Israel has no absentee voting which is crazy.
27. Great idea! Lieberman's got my vote.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (02.09.10)
A citizen of Israel should have the right to vote, regardless of where they live.
28. VOTING FOR WHAT ?
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (02.09.10)
To vote here is not giving the voters any real voice anyway, in our media controlled dictatorship. As soon as the vote is in Livni and all the others sucking up our tax money, are not accountable for anything they decide to do. So to give Yordim a change to vote will not change a thing. As long as this political corrupt system based on the old Soviet party committee system, stays the same, the same old clique will run the show to their own tune. While Israelis are constantly spewing their political views and involvement, they are unaware how they are being played for fools.
29. Sad Truth
Ari B. ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.09.10)
1. Yes in many democracies they allow there nationals to vote, but their numbers are insignificant. We have 750,000 israelis living abroad, and that certainly can swing a vote. 2. Aside from this being great for Likud and Lieberman this is a joke (and I voted for Bibi). Why should 100,000s of people in Los Angeles determine wether my boys go to war. Most left over 25 years ago and havent looked back! As for the 95,000 who took there immigration package and went back to moscow after being here for less then 10 years have a say either. If the 750,000 wish to return and participate (pay taxes and serve) we should welcome them with open arms, but until then we need to come to terms with the fact they are gone and Livni is right!
30. When Livni speaks
