Yonason Herschlag   (02.09.10)
Can a person be born as a "pork eater". Eating pork is a behaviour - an action. It is done by choice. Are some people born with a greater lust for pork, or is that lust a product of environment, habit, etc.? A person could also claim that he was born with a desire for adultory. But G-d gave us the ability to control our actions, and even our desires. And He forbade us from behaving abominably.
32. They might get more than they ask for
EM ,   Ra'anana   (02.09.10)
While I am absolutely against this proposal, it would be interesting to see how Netanyahu/Lieberman disenfanchise the Arab Israeli citizens living abroad. I'm sure there a quite a lot of them too..
33. VOTE
ANGELINA ,   HOLON, ISRAEL   (02.09.10)
No vote for yordim. They do not share our problems and they should not vote without participating in our daily lives. They have no right to decide for us, they chose to live aroad. Labriuth, but no voting rights. Only people on duty as shlihim or diplomts or students should be able to vote, not those who did not chose to share our lives.
34. Tzipi is again out of focus.
Ari ,   Jerusalem   (02.09.10)
A lot of countries un the world accept that their nationals living outside thir territory can participate in the elections. You can see this in USA, in most of Latin american Countries as well as european. Iam sure some asiatic countries also act in same manner. Why is Tzipi afraid? Why is it immoral some of this Israeli went abroad to support better their families, but nevertheless they are also ambasadors of good will to Israel, they contribute ti Israel`s Hasbara. We also finf antiisrael guys amongsy them, who will surely vote for the the left or the arab parties. After as I said Israel is not the only country in the world that has nationals abroad and vote in elections time.
35. Keep Issraelis From Voting Abroad
Yitzchak ,   Netanya   (02.09.10)
Israelis – Keep us from voting while living abroad or residing abroad. Before I made Aliya I always thought that all Jews in order to be Jewish must also have an Israeli identity card and an Israeli passport. I changed that naive view to believing that every Jew must own an Israeli Bond so that his personal economic future had a stake in the well-being and safety of the Jewish state. Before I immigrated I believed that Diaspora Jews should restrain their influence in the democracy and polity of Israel issues. The Diaspora could write and debate about it, but only those whose lives are on the line should have any direct involvement in Israel’s democratic choices. After becoming an Israeli I now believe that I should not have been given the rights of the law of return because I came from the rich WEST and could easily return to the USA if I did not “make it” in Israel. Israel was built by Jews who had no choice of any “return!” Half of all American Jews who make Aliya return to the States. Only necessity and extremity are creative and inventive. It is the discriminated Jews that created and continue to create the State of Israel in large numbers. The WEST does not have large numbers in Israel. Thos Israelis who left to live in the Goldene Medina should not be trusted with the future of the Jewish state by giving them an absentee vote in the future of the State. The US is a resource to be used by those oppressed elsewhere. Israel is not a resource for oppressed Israelis pleasantly living in the USA. Being a Jew in Israel is precarious; being an Israeli in the USA with a green card or an American passport, is not precarious or life threatening. The many Israelis I know living in the USA who love Israel come back to Israel to vote. They understand. Most Israelis living in the USA worry more about their pocket books than they do about the Jewish State. The same is true about more than 80% of American Jews: they care more about their pocket books and their immediate families than they do about anything else and certainly more than they care about the Jewish State. Only 20% of American Jews have visited Israel. Israelis living abroad must come home to vote and not be entrusted to defend the constantly threatened Jewish State. Americans living abroad should vote abroad because America plays a role for Jews that Israel might someday achieve when she becomes a superpower and the last great hope of humanity. When that day comes not only should, Israelis and Jews as well, but all the Diaspora be able to vote with an absentee ballot.
36. Why not?
Gab ,   Montreal, Canada   (02.09.10)
Livni, you already fail...and you still continue? Israelis abroad should definitely be allowed to vote, remember they are Israelis, and they served in the army, and still serving Israel where ever they are. AM ISRAEL HAI
37. # 31 Yonason you are talking total nonsense
Avi ,   Israel   (02.09.10)
i think in the year 2010 we have sufficent intellingence to know that being gay is not a choice it is a persons genetic makeup. Secondly do not quote God to me as i do not share such religious beliefs. So that kind of slander is wasted on me. In addition no hetrosexual can possibly understand what it is to be gay. Your ignorance is worrying although hardly surprissing, fear is a result of ignorance. The chances of a gay man becoming straight is about as possible as a straght man becoming gay. I suggest you take time to meet someone gay before you come out with such homophobic statements. Or maybe you should come out the closet as you obviously have some issues here.
38. Livni a Moralist?
Gush Etsion ,   Israel   (02.09.10)
When has Geveret Livni become the morality police? It may be wrong, perhaps stupid to allow for voters in 'chul" to vote...not that I agree...but Immoral??? What is Immoral is the giving away of Jerusalem...It's hard to believe she was in the front office...wake up and choose your words carefully!
39. Why can prisoners vote but business people traveling can't?
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (02.09.10)
Until they propose the criteria and details about this the opposition is ludicrous. If they allow people who are in Israel at least 200 days of the year, or who have their home base here in Israel vote via absentee ballot it would be fine. But Livni is looking at the extreme of those Americans and Russians who have citizenship in Israel but are only here a few days a year or less being able to vote. So rather than opposing it outright she should be working to make it reasonable. After all the convicted murder of a Prime Minister was allowed to vote but a business person who contributes, pays taxes, serves and miluim, but had to travel on election day could not. Where is the logic in this?
40. #39 Eric the trouble is
Avi ,   Israel   (02.09.10)
The trouble is , is whats to prevent the charideem coming from NY , registering as Israelis and then voting for extreme parties such as Shas then disappearing back to Manhattan? While the hard working people of this country have to live here not them ?
41. But Livni ,are we a Democratic country?
Michael   (02.09.10)
you don't want a jewish state,.A Democratic country adheres to Democratic principles for all its citizens not dependent on where one lives. if however, you believed in a Jewish state than you can argue Moral issues. But Kadima,.Labor and Meretz when arguing against Democratic priniciples invoke moral issues. When there is a Jewish principle that people want incorporated into the state. Often the argument is we are a Democratic state and we must have separation. bewteen religion and state. Which is it?
42. Democratic right!
B. Adania ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (02.09.10)
Access to the ballots is a basic democratic right. "Normal" countries does not limit this right to residents only, but also to their citizens on foreign shores. (I have voted at the Swedish embassy in Israel, but never ever at the Israeli embassy in Sweden...).
43. Livni definition of democracy is only if it helps me
zionist forever   (02.09.10)
She wanted to reform the voting system, she wanted a constitution she loves everything democratic. When we talk about the idea of giving Israeli citizens a right that citizens of most western democracies have always had and thats the right to vote whilst abroad Livni is so against the idea that she calls for no confidence motions to try kill the idea. With the running and leadership inside kadima she hates the idea of democracy. Livni is just worried that most the Israelis living abroad are not the kind of voters who would choose her. So when it comes to Livni and democracy if its good for her and her policies its a wonderful thing we should encourage in every way shape and form but if its not so good for her then dictaitorship is the way forward with me as the ruler.
44. llowing Israelis to vote abroad immoral on what ground???
Dani ,   Amsterdam NL   (02.09.10)
I am an Israeli citizen abroad on what ground she say Immoral to give me the opportunity to decide the future of my homeland. I fought for Israel 1948 and if I am not wrong land of Israel is KKL property and every Jews in the world have the right of return. What she want from us offending humiliating whats going on?
45. #8 - Am I a "deserter" for studying an MBA abroad??
William ,   Israel   (02.09.10)
I care for Israel as much as a local citizen. I chose to go abroad for MBA studies to advance my career and become a more productive member of society - above some special groups in Israel that chose to not do that. Why should I lose my democratic right to vote, something that still affects me personally as I have family in Israel and I will return again? I detest having to take 4 days off of work and pay over $1000 just to vote when I live 4 km from the Israeli Consultate which can provide the same service.
46. #9 - Israel has survived, will always survive
William ,   Israel   (02.09.10)
The "pals" can "survive" too in their own State if they dropped their racist violence and worked on something productive. An article yesterday underscored what welfare parasites they are - their only income is massive Intl aid, with much of it siphoned off to terror groups used for violence and oppression. Israel always will survive, because of the will of its people - which both Egypt and Jordan has realized and accepted. Will the racist Arab neighbors accept the inevitable? Their future depends on it.
