1. So what the Arabs are saying
(02.11.10)
Is that Jews should not live anywhere.
2. do you see what I see, yep rerun of Akko riots
ghostq   (02.11.10)
if they really cared they should have done that during the bid, but since they want without giving any money to help themselves than the out come is obvious.
3. They lost right there with the "settler" talk
J K ,   NYC, USA   (02.11.10)
Once again showing that even amongst Israel's Arabs, Jews moving into Jaffa are seen as 'settlers'. They still haven't gotten it into their heads that Jaffa is an undisputed part of Israel...well, unless you're an Arab...then any part of Israel is up for dispute.
4. Jews totally special!!!!!!!!!!
Salma ,   Palestine   (02.11.10)
I want to understand one thing please as long as the Jews only love themselves and want to live alone without the shared one, not the place nor the time why they always complain they have lived in ghettos and the world did not accept them, this thing is confusing me! I think this is ironic, or did the Jews take revenge from Palestinians on behalf of the whole world?
5. building
colin   (02.11.10)
RACILISM The only word for these arab residents of Jaffo. Not only arabs are short of housing Jews suffer the same shortage of homes. There are no so called settlers in Israel. There are the pioneers opening new areas for youngsters to live. This Agbaria is only a fanatical agitater He thinks like an idiot. Where is the distintion of jews and arabs in Jaffo?? Only in the mind of this idiot and fool.
6. How interesting: The land must be reserved for Arabs only,
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (02.11.10)
and this is the line of thinking of one who claims discrimination. In other words, it is fine to discriminate against Jews and prevent them from residing in certain villages, towns, neighborhoods and even buildings - sounds like Obama!!! - and he does not realize this is a form of racism, anti-Jewish racism.
7. so now jews in tel aviv-jaffa are settlers?!
the truth revealed   (02.11.10)
the arabs dont want us anywhere, while israeli arabs can purchase houses anywhere jews cant cuz of arabs like them.
8. :: Apartheid nation
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (02.11.10)
“it will foster the development of the country for the benefit of all its inhabitants; it will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel; it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex;” - Israeli Declaration of Independence Such hollow and hypocritical words.
9. How can we justify such a ruling
David Katz ,   Mevessaret Zion Isra   (02.11.10)
As an Israel Jew, I ask all of us how can any of us pretend that we don't understand why the Arab residents of Jaffa are upset about a "Jewish Only" project. How can the courst allow such a ruling? Anywhere else in the world we would be the ones leading the protest but here we pretend we don't udnerstand? And then we wonder why we have problems with the Arab population of our country?
10. "Occupation" in Arabic means every parcel of land between
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (02.11.10)
the River and the Sea that is owned by a non-Arab and/or a non-Muslim. The state of Israel, in Arabic, is occupied territory, be it Haderah, Gederah, Rosh Pinah, Tel-Aviv-Jafa or Holon. This is the reason the Arabs, all of them, refuse to accept Israel's right to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people since it is, in their eye, an illegitimate entity and every town, village, neighborhood and even a building that is owned by Jews is not legitimate. The answer, from their perspective, to wipe Israel off the face of earth, in one-fell-swoop or in stages. The demand at hand is a small such stage designed to bring Israel down to its knees and with it the Jewish people whose nation-state Israel is.
11. not so liberal
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (02.11.10)
It seems that the Arabs are not so democratic, not so liberal, but rather prefer to deny the freedom of existence to some Jews who are dumb enough to desire to live in their midst. Is it with these people we wist to make peace?
12. more arab double standards
al-Yehoud ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.11.10)
Why can't they? Who can complain - the Arabs? They want to have no just a building, but an entire COUNTRY that is off limits to Jews. So, give me a fcking break.
13. A New Ghetto in Israel.
Solomon ,   Bklyn   (02.11.10)
Housing should be nondiscriminatory, period. The orthodox who will live in the building will NOT relate to the local residents (both Arabs and Jews) but will stay apart with a holier-than-thou attitude. They will be building their own ghetto and trying to enlarge it afterward.
14. #9
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (02.11.10)
Justification: Land is zoned for construction and anyone can bid for the land. The highest bidder buys the rights to build there. Usually, the land is bought contractors who then make a hefty profit. In this case, a group of people got together and made a "purchasing group" to buy the land. Even though they paid far more than any other bidder, the cost per apartment is far cheaper for the members of the group. And a comment: there is almost no more land left for Jewish homes so Jews typically are forced to live in high-rise apartments without gardens. There are huge areas in Arab villages where Jews are forbidden to live.
15. The hypocrisy of the Jews...
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (02.11.10)
The residents of the city do not want a Jewish ghetto in their midst. The builders and supporters of the building do not believe in assimilation or universal education. The court approves the apartheid sentiment of building a 'Jews only' development. This is Israel today. A conglomeration of shtetls. Instead of attempting to build a state open to all without discrimination, a state with a common ethic; instead we have an apartheid system actively buttressed by a curiously blind 'justice' system. Should the Arabs wish to build an 'Arab' only development, many Israelis would protest such an attempt as 'Judenrein'. Yet, when Jews attempt such a discriminatory act, that is to be applauded. Is your racism so deeply entrenched that simple justice may be denied?
16. #1
Noor ,   Coral Springs, USA   (02.11.10)
No, what we are saying is for you to stop calling yourself a democracy when you are not. What a sad story.
17. This petition will be rejected
Ilia ,   Israel, Petach-Tiqwa   (02.11.10)
This petition will be rejected also, Jaffa its integral part of Israel and its will stay so forever. Arab population should go to palestine, you are guests in our country (Israel). Jews have 100% rights to live and construct anywhere in Israel, as they wish.
18. Bad Publicity, But ...
Frankie Littlehammer ,   New Herstal, TX, US   (02.11.10)
This is bad publicity, that will give the enemies of Israel another tool to spout words like 'racism' or 'apartheid.' Yet no major newspaper, left-winger or other friend of the Arabs ever complains about the muslims-only policy at Mecca and Medina, or mentions the ethnic cleansing that removed the Jews from that area. Maybe use the relgiious angle? Muslims can get away with that. But then, Muslims are special and have more rights than others.
19. The "Apartheid" cries are devoid of any substance.
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (02.11.10)
It might be very tempting for all Israel-haters out there to cry out "Apartheid!" right now, but this is plain demagoguery. The actual details of the story contradict this notion. As Israel Israeli from #14 explained, this site was open for construction bids for everybody - Jews, Muslims, Christians, whoever. It happened that this particular purchasing group, of religious Jews, gave the highest bid, and hence won fairly. Had another purchasing group of Muslims given a higher bid, they would have won. If you lost the bid, you have no say anymore, and you can't force out the winner. This is a basic concept of conducting business fairly. Thus, if anyone is acting as "racist" here, it's the Arab petitioners, who reject their new neighbors just because they are Jews! And as Israel Israeli further points out, Arabs have it much better as far as land ownership in Israel: in Arab villages nearly all the buildings are one or two floors, whereas Jews have less land and are typically forced to live in crowded high-rising buildings. And in a final note, I deplore the fact that ynet chooses such a inflammatory title ('Jews only') for this news story. Such title puts those in this purchasing group, as well as the Tel Aviv District Court, in a very negative light which they do not deserve, and gives undeserved ammunition to all the Israel-haters out there.
20. "We all see what happened in Hebron"
William ,   Israel   (02.11.10)
Are you threatening that you Arabs of Jaffa will also not integrate peacefully with the Jews in your midst, use violence against them, and demand a UN force to protect you while you attack Jews? Because that's exactly why Hebron there is tension in Hebron, not because some religious Jews moved in.
21. NYC Building For Whites Only
World Citizen ,   the world   (02.11.10)
The New York City Housing Authority announced today that special housing units would be constructed for whites only. After viewing statistical data showing the income, cultural, educational and religious differences between white, black and latino residents of the city it was decided that segregation was the obvious solution. "We've tried integrating these groups of people but it just doesn't work. White people like order, cleanliness and classical music and you know how the rest of these racial mongrels are." said Housing Authority attorney John Skinhead. "Hell look at them, pants falling down and selling drugs. And they look like black Muslims" The US Supreme Court is expected to hear challenges to the ruling but cultural and security experts expect easy sailing through the court. "We are doing this for the safety and happiness of all NYC citizens" attorney Skinhead declared. "The court will side with us because the threat to our loss of security is the greatest threat to this country. G_d bless America."
22. #8 - and how do you feel about Arab-only villages?
William ,   Israel   (02.11.10)
Tell the truth Matty - how do you feel about the Arab-only villages, where the Arab residents actively fight against any Jew moving into their midst? Is this considered "apartheid" to you or just a "fight against the colonialist Jews"? Your answer either way is immaterial as you'e already painted yourself as a racist long ago.
23. #15 - You do realize that Arabs want this too
William ,   Israel   (02.11.10)
This isn't just some Jews, but Arabs also demand isolation of their villages from outside elements. Are you so blind to see this as part and parcel of the entire situation in Israel today? Arabs also demand apartheid-like policies, but in their favor, and crumbs like you rush to support them. You are basically the same racist which you describe Jews to be. If equality is to exist in any town, ALL inhabitants must demand equal rights for ALL citizens there, and this simply isn't the case. Infact, it wasn't too long ago that Arabs in Jaffa wanted to block ALL Jews from moving in. What say you to that?
24. Jews only Jaffa building
Suzanne ,   Tel Aviv   (02.11.10)
All I know is that as a Jewish taxpayer I cannot afford to buy or rent a tiny hole in Israel whereas the Arabs seem to have endless land and big houses while paying no property taxes and simply taking all the social benefits.
25. #16 - If Arabs got together and bought the land
William ,   Israel   (02.11.10)
then they would build on it and proclaim an Arab-only buiilding. There are Arab-only neighborhoods inside Jaffa but that doesn't seem to bother you when you point the finger at Jews. If Israel wasn't a democracy, then only Jews would have rights to land, and not the reality which is Druze has their own villages, Arabs have their own villages, Bedouin have their villages, Jews have their own but share it with non-Jews, and there are several towns built specifically for co-existence of all backgrounds through the initiative of the intended residents. So you see - there is a democracy in Israel. The right of people to life their own way, or to integrate. And all this is balanced despite the cultural, religious, and economic backgrounds...without civil war or violent tensions. I can't say that I know other countries dealing with suc complexity so well.
26. #21 - tough to be "democratic" when all you see in NYC
William ,   Israel   (02.11.10)
You know, for a self-proscribed "world citizen" you barely show any knowledge outside your own neighborhood. Infact, you prove the statement of one great philospher - "if you only have a hammer, you will tend to view all of the problems as nails" In other words, keep your self-righteous myopic experience in NYC to....New Yorkers, and leave Israel to the Israelis. The problem I've seen over and over again with Leftists is this - they try to force their views and initiatives on everyone else all over the world, without regard to the customs, history, and culture of the local population. Then you decry Western States who do try to implement Western values, either through supporting a certain govt or enforcing sanctions against brutal govts or through infrastructure development which your ilk often claim as "resource theft". You do this all over the place, calling for "democracy". How's that working out for ya' for Arabia?? Not good, I imagine.
27. #8 mind your own business .go solve the problems in your own
