61. 23 David,Los Angeles: Rabbi Yeshua said He did not come to
Rivkah   (02.19.10)
call the righteous to repentance. He came to call sinners to repentance. Why would the righteous need to see a vision of heaven other than to strengthen and encourage them? The wicked need to glimpse heaven in all its glory for a moment to see what they will miss out on if they do not repent and forsake their sins.

67. not in the torah?
justasheep ,   st. charles il   (02.20.10)
Did G-d delete Leviticus 18:22 from the Torah and someone forgot to tell me? Where Rabbi Lau get that its not in the Torah? Maybe he needs to go back and read it again.
68. to #17: rivkah the shikse
tom ,   toronto, canada   (02.21.10)
please preface your comments with a warning that you are writing about the beliefs and practices of fundamentalist christianity, in spite of your deliberately misleading "nom de plume". for anyone who missed it, "eternally doomed", "demons", "lake of fire where sorrow never ends", "saved eternally from the fires of hell", and "dying saint" are all christian imagery, NOT jewish. you are welcome to your eternal hellfire, and any other misreadings of the torah, but they have no place in a discussion of JEWISH law and practice. you know less than nothing about judaism, so stop trying to mislead others.
69. the torah and homosexuality
tom ,   toronto, canada   (02.21.10)
the torah's approach to homosexuality is based on different values than our modern liberal society. in fact, it treats male and female differently, probably because it originated in a patriarchal, polygamous society, where males (and heirs) were more important than wives (or concubines) or daughters. in spite of modern-day rabbinic jewish practices, the patriarchs all married multiple non-jewish women (of necessity), there were no rabbis and no beit din for conversions, and their children were considered jewish. but the fact is that the torah explicitly forbids a man to approach another man as he would a woman, but never forbids relations between women. the prohibition against cross-dressing says specifically that it is to prevent confusion of the sexes, but for most people, heterosexual or homosexual, undressing for sex usually dispels any "confusion". wearing or not wearing pants doesn't change a person's sexual orientation - "men's" and "women's" clothing styles change with time. the only sin in lesbian relations is the refusal to "be fruitful and multiply", which may be more than enough reason for the parents of a lesbian to mourn the grandchildren that they will not have. whether rabbi froman expressed himself in the most tactful manner, now that is another question...
70. #67 what leviticus actually says
tom ,   toronto, canada   (02.21.10)
leviticus 18:22 actually says: "and a male you shall not lay the laying down of a woman it is an abomination". (the translation is mine. if you don't like it, i suggest you reread the original hebrew text.) this article was about lesbians, so how do you figure leviticus 18:22, which explicitly refers to males, applies?
71. Tom , Toronto
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.21.10)
With the modern techniques it is'nt difficult at all for a lesbian woman to have one or more children . So she can be "fruitful and multiply" . I share of course your view regarding this rivka with the usurpated Jewish name .
72. Tomof Toronto: Read my posts on this article and see the
Rivkah   (02.21.10)
condemnation of homosexuality in the Bible, male and female. What fun you have corrupting the Torah. You probably think there is no God, too, if you think there is not a hell. Read Psalms and see what Y'hovah showed King David when David went into the Temple, upset about the prospering of enemies in their evil ways. Y'hovah showed David that his enemies will be consumed in terrors at the moment of death. The physical body goes to sleep until resurrection to eternal life or death. The spirit goes back to the Lord at the death of the body. BUT the SOUL goes to a place of torment or a place of rest. King David was shown that, but you don't believe Psalms or Leviticus. Do you know what happens to people who add or subtract from the Torah and Tanakh and falsely teach what is there with the intention of corrupting the gullible? Their names are blotted out of the book of eternal life. By the way, Messianic Judaism is legal in Israel by a ruling of the Israeli Supreme Court a year or so ago.
73. rivke the evangelical shikse
tom ,   toronto, canada   (02.21.10)
stop making it up as you go along. and quit pretending to be jewish, while worshiping pagan gods. the fact is that lesbian relations are not prohibited in the torah (and please stop quoting the goyishe book called "revelations" - it is not jewish). your knowledge of the bible comes from tv evanglists and consists of "proof texts" taken out of context. try looking up "kine" in a dictionary , for instance, instead of telling people that it's hebrew(!), which is just plain stupid. " ternal damnation" and "rivers of fire" are pure christian imagery, and you are welcome to enjoy them with your fundamentalist christian friends, but they have no place in a JEWISH discussion. as for the supreme court of israel upholding freedom of religion, that does NOT constitute an endorsement of any particular religion. if anything, they should have prohibited the use of the term "messianic judaism" as a deliberately misleading term used by evangelical missionaries to deceive jews and trick them into idolatry. since you seem to like to (mis)quote the torah, perhaps you should remind yourself of the biblical punishment for leading jews into idolatry.
74. 72 , WRONG
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.22.10)
The Israeli Supreme court only ruled that a person from Jewish offspring , even when he/she is a messianic , is allowed to make alyah under the law of return . It's the Jewish offspring that counts . Nothing to do with making this christian sect legal . And don't forget that there is freedom of religion in MY country .
