Israel would not need these recon missions if Hezbollah would not be violating the UN resolution 1701. Hezbollah has been importing weapons under the U.N.'s nose since 2006 something which Israel knew would happen and that the U.N would be a waste of time. If I understand correctly Lebanon officially objects to Israel overflying it's territory (see 1701). To be fair this is reasonable. But Hezbolla have been exempted by the Lebabese from complying to 1701 & still bring in truck loads of missiles & weapons from Syria. That is not fair. The consequences will be saddly very dramatic for Lebanon. Eventually Hezbolla will do something to start a new war. Maybe not intentionally, but the chances are that it will happen. The current Lebanese government has already openly & repeately allied themselves (& the people of Lebanon) with Hezbolla. So all of Lebanon is now a legitamate target. Will Syria come to the aid of Lebanon? Good question, have they ever. No. Why would Syria expose himself & his army to the Israeli's. Remember '73 after a great start his military was driven back beyond the starting point & more territory lost, even Damascus was hit by artillery shells. Assad knows that the next war may well result in Beruit & Damascus being occupied. To him the fall of Beruit & Lebanon is a gable only with Lebanese lives & property buy if Damascus falls so does he. He will make noises only & do nothing. Israel has new tactics but so does Hezbolla, so who's will be better? The reality is that Iran & the mullah's don't care. If Lebanon is left a wasteland Syria will move in & claim it as their own. Rember Syria still does not really recognise Lebanon as an independent country. The result of Lebanon not apply 1701 to Hezbolla is long term bad for all Lebanese. Shooting at Israeli aircraft is the same as saying that Hezbolla & Lebanon & together militarily.
