1. Security, borders & settlements
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (02.15.10)
The Arabs waged war and lost. End of story. But I also do not look to God to dictate the borders of the modern Nation State. Pragmatism must prevail. I do not view the west bank as Israel, any more than Gaza. Borders were drawn in the last 100 or so years not 4000 years ago for me, and I am speaking as a Jew. I believe for security reasons, there are some settlements around Jerusalem that must be traded for land. Would dismantling settlements bring peace? Of course not. It is not enough, and Peace will only be made when the Arabs are ready. Israel should not wait for that to move from the settlements, or at the very least stop expanding them. They are a drain on the moral, economic, military and religious lifeblood of Israel, and they will never produce any net positive result.
2. A Strong U.S.-Israel Partnership
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.15.10)
Obama has established a strong record as a true friend of Israel, a stalwart defender of Israel’s security, and an effective advocate of strengthening the steadfast U.S.-Israel relationship. He believes that Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state should never be challenged. Obama strongly supports the U.S.-Israel relationship, a mutually beneficial bond strengthened by common values, histories, and dedication to democracy. Obama believes that our first and incontrovertible commitment in the Middle East must be to the security of Israel, America’s strongest ally in the Middle East. Expressing his support for this reality, Obama delivered the message to Palestinian university students in Ramallah that the United States would never distance itself from Israel. Before the Palestinian elections, Obama asserted that the United States would never recognize Hamas unless it renounced its fundamental mission to eliminate Israel and he continues to insist that Hamas recognize Israel, abandon violence, and abide by previous agreements made between the Palestinian Authority and Israel. Obama has always been a moderate, and he never had the intention of throwing America and/or Israel under the bus and siding with Hamas.
3. That is not always the case
Marcel ,   Florida   (02.15.10)
Dear little Napoleon ; Sometimes friends do not overcome their differences.More oftehn than not some friends stab their friends in the back, especially when the friend is making backroom deals with Israel's enemies. A friend does not sell Israel's enemies weapons as we see with Hizbolah controlled Lebanon.. Israel ,don't be a sucker ,dump the clown Barak
4. palestinians could learn a thing or two from this
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.15.10)
getting along, assuming that's what one wants to do, can occur between people who disagree IF there is the desire and flexibility. obsessing over every minute detail, insisting that what I/ me wants needs to be according to how i like it before even deciding to talk, simply shows that there is no possibility for a side like palestinians to do anything except fight, fight, fight. no surprise here.
5. Running helter skelter, got to love it!
Nour ,   Palestine   (02.15.10)
It's the occupation, stupid, it's 120 of lethal and war-waging Zionism. It's Israeli arrogance, it's the ever-expanding American wasteline, it's their mutual and join greed, to control, torment, and decide the world's destiny unilaterally. It's one bleak and ugly picture based on a Zionist-Evangelical world view, which they want to pursue and to hell with everyone else, their land, or their aspirations. Questions?
6. LEFTIST TALKING TO EACHOTHERS ITCHING EARS ???.
Arn. ,   SWEDEN.   (02.15.10)
THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN YOU, WILL ONLY BE OVECOME, WHEN BECAUSE OF YOUR IDLENES, THE SITUATION GOES BOOM !!!. Arn.
7. Nour - Question
zionist forever   (02.15.10)
I have a question... Hezbollah is Iran's proxy army on Israel's border and are stationed in their own country fighting to defend their own country against attacks and invasions from Israel. By this same logic would you regard Israel as America's proxy army in the middle east?
8. 3 points
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (02.15.10)
(1) There are in a very broad sense two types of foreign-policy-RW-er: the neocon-imperialist and the xenophobic-isolationist. Both are nasty, but not in exactly the same ways. Lieberman strikes me as mainly the latter. More interested in bullying and kicking out Israeli Arabs than in bombing other countries. (2) Israel is overextended and doesn't really have the resources for an attack on Iran. (3) America ditto. (4) I have no doubt that Israel and America might each quite like it if the OTHER ONE bombed Iran. ("You go first!" "No, you go first!") But, due to (2) and (3), neither is likely to bomb Iran, unless something very unlikely happens. Which is just as well.
9. to #5 oh I got one, I got one
ghostq   (02.15.10)
the zionist didn't evacuated or created the refugees camps will you try to file law suit against the British who did, I can tell you for a fact during the mandate jews or Israelis didn't gave orders to the BRITS(cause you don't give orders to the boss) so will you file law suit against them, hint check point were also against jews during the British mandat, it is something they left behind.
10. Milking the Haitians for all they are worth...
BBSNews ,   Charlotte, NC   (02.15.10)
...shameful and despicable tooting of your own horn. Even the most basic of values are not shared with such crass people.
11. Sara B I hope you are right-I dont trust him at all
Alan ,   SA   (02.15.10)
12. @5 yeah i got some questions
Dani ,   Netherlands   (02.15.10)
why is it, that everytime i read some stupid talkback on ynet, your name is written under it? if every palestinian has the same thought as you do, no wonder there isn't a "Palestine" you can express your opinion, but be realistic.. what is it that irritates you so much about Israel, Israeli's / Jews?
13. To no 10 'Milking the Haitians for all they are worth...'
Aron ,   LONDON   (02.15.10)
Perhaps you prefer the Iranians. No milking to be done there. For I understand they did not send much aid to Haiti.
14. #7 Q/A
Nour ,   Palestine   (02.15.10)
Israel is not a proxy to America. It is America that is Israel's proxy! Even Sharon the vegetable said it in 2003: "Every time we do something you tell me America will do this and will do that . . . I want to tell you something very clear: Don't worry about American pressure on Israel. We, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it." - Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, October 3, 2001" Observing the evolution of post-WW2 American, I would unfortunately agree with Sharon. Who could have imagined that Obama, presumably the president of the world's most 'powerful' country in the world cannot even force Israel to halt settlement activity, let alone force it to evacuate illegal settlements? Hezbollah? When was Hezbollah founded? It was soon after Israel invaded Lebanon in the early 80s. Has Hezb. become an Iranian proxy? To *some* degree - yes, and based on mutual interests...
15. to #14 hahahaha you really think
ghostq   (02.15.10)
anyone cares, or take notice for what been said in 2003, hahaha I guess it's lost in translation, listen in democracy what matters is now, past leaders r just for history books, your state of mind is glory to the leader in reality in democracy leaders can be anyone, you think in dictatorship state of mind words of leaders r no sacrad and can be contradict so he said so what, he is a man and only a man with big insperations, but none find his words holy, however you palis got a lot to learn, cause you thinking in dictatorship terms. as for Hizb her activity is her own responsibility none made them that is another issue you need to learn is self responsibility. you blaming the victim for creating terror og, y don't you blam Iran for creating it.
16. # 12
Birdi ,   Israel   (02.15.10)
The answer to your question Dani, is pure jealously, in a nutshell.
17. The US is not just another "friend"...
Persian CAT   (02.15.10)
the US is also the biggest, or the sole, protector, sugar daddy and the BOSS! So for Barak to pretend Israel and the US are equals, he as most Israelis has read the tea leaves wrong. Israel will do what it's told or its chain will be YANKED by you-know-who.
18. Eliminate Hez/Hamas Will Send a Message
Dav Lev ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (02.15.10)
Look fellow Zionists ( for a secure Israel), this is the bottom line. Here in So. Calif, there are 60 groups and 25m people. Over half are Hispanic, and there are 2m blacks and 2m Asians. Basically we all live together in peace and harmony. True, sometims there are small conflicts, but -0- compared to the M.E. The problem is not the settlements, or even borders. Yes, these borders are disputed.(admitted by Israel), not divinely ordained. Until the Pales/Arabs accept Israel as a Jewish country in the overall Arab world, AND Muslim Iran stops threatening...nothing can really change. Mullin knows a fireball will ensue if war breaks out. He is right. But, a nuclear Iran, the fireball is unimaginable. Israel is mighty and has 400 nukes..aimed at every Arab city, army formation, military-industrial plant, and nuke sites. But having that power..(we had a nuke capacity in two wars) is useless.Taking out Hamas/Hez would help stabilize the area, w/o fighting Iran. I am for attacking both, simultaneously..deadly weapons, Forget Goldstone. That might push Iran to think? Still not enough, will always be the Arab cry. So lets get on with it. Time is not on Israel's side.
