This so-called Forum was only out to protect the image of the their ideological Movement hoping, in time, this embarrassing problem would simply go away; and be kept away from the public eye. It wasn't. So the strategy evolved back then to isolate him and keep him out of the limelight, put him into solitary confinement as it were, so that he could not reflect badly on the greater goals of the Movement. Whether R. Elon did or did not do anything wrong or immoral, I do not know - but this whole thing doesn't look good - and it's bad press for the Movement, something they desperately wanted to avoid, but failed. Then, if proven true, one must assume that the person has immediately repented their act. In that case, they are to be viewed as completely righteous once again.
