ghostq   (02.18.10)
like some one wants to Islamitis chritians in Spain.
2. OK, put up something offensive to the spanish
Scott   (02.18.10)
Who cares if its childish to retaliate in kind? After a while these babies wont do it anymore because they'll realise that its stupid.
3. Menorah growing out of an uzi, why is
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (02.18.10)
that offensive. On the contrary, it tells me that Israel is a warrior nation and that is the fact which makes Jewish devotion possible. But art which consciously attempts to convey a political message or any message at all for that matter (any of the arts, in fact) is usually second-rate.
4. Trash art from scum that expelled Jews.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (02.18.10)
5. The Unholy Trinity and its many expressions
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (02.18.10)
The Unholy Trinity of course is made of: Classic Anti-Semites / "Progressive" Anti-Jewish Racists / 7th Century Based Islamists. The ways the various components of this coalition express themselves is varied. The common denominator is being anti-Jewish = anti-Israel and anti-Judaism - anti-Zionism. If in the past it was politically acceptable to be openly anti-Semite, after the Shoah this has changed. The substitute of course has come in the form of being anti-Israel (the nation-state of the Jewish people) and anti-Zionism (the non-violent national liberation movement of the Jewish people). Let us keep this in mind and act upon it accordingly!
6. i dont know about you but
tali ,   telaviv   (02.18.10)
i like it. it's not about how it really is. lets be honest, it's how we feel ourselves among the rest of the world if we dig deep inside... good morning
7. to #6 feel ourselves qround the rest
ghostq   (02.18.10)
of the world? baaaaa go drink your koffee, either that or you like Michael Jackson song, we r the world we r the children. and that is very honnest.
8. eugenio merino's sculptures
Richard Sherwin, Herzliyah   (02.18.10)
I find them interesting and in many ways true to life as I live it. No more anti jewish than anti christian or anti muslim -- how about anti everyone and a Furphyism -- "Such is Life"...
9. political msg art 2d rate? since when?
Richard Sherwin, Herzliyah   (02.18.10)
try the Torah, the prophets, etc. but yes, when life's 3d rate, or less when imitating 10 rate ideas, 2d rate isnt all that bad....even as art...
10. #1 - Green Cross is a symbol for a pharmacy in the UK
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (02.18.10)
So it is not clear what it is doing in this show - maybe to indicate where to go for the stomach calming medicine?
11. Interesting that when someone else does it . . .
Zvika ,   Jerusalem   (02.18.10)
everyone carries on about anti-semitic incitement, etc. But the home-grown version seems to be OK with most of the local media. Wake up folks. The entire world sees the utter disrespect secular Israel displays toward its own heritage being broadcast all over the Internet, in English. So why can't they join in the fun? Why can secular Israel dish it out, but is not able to take it when someone else does it? Those who feel they have license to diss their own people shouldn't be surprised when someone else does it too.
12. to #10 *~*
ghostq   (02.18.10)
the art show isn't in the UK and this isn't a pharmacy, stop making excuses usually in spain cross come in Gold or RED. unless it's In granada there you wont find many cause it used to be Muslim. once againe you failed use something that known as common sense and logic.
13. Virulent anti-Semitic images
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (02.18.10)
The artist's gun/menorah image equates Jews with murderers. He uses a stereotypical Jewish figure with nose in the air, to state that Jews arrogantly dominate and oppress the rest of the world. These anti-Semitic images are similar to those used in Hitler's Germany. This dangerous exhibit was designed to escalate hatred of Jews and must be condemned.
14. Sorry Sue, the figure is not "stereotypical"
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (02.19.10)
and the images are not virulently antisemitic. In fact, the figure looks just like a Charedi man praying with a prayerbook in one hand as he chants and looks towards the heavens, possibly in rapture. That's my take on it. Of course, there is a certain degree of subjectivity in all these opinions, isn't there?
15. No word from new US Ambassador/J Street founder?
Gershon ,   USA   (02.19.10)
Alan Solomont, new US Ambassador to Spain (and a Jew) has been silent about the art exhibit. Solomont, major donor of Obama's campaign, is also a founder of the anti-Israel lobby, J Street. He may have a personal axe to grind with Israel as his brother Jay served time in an Israeli prison (which caused Alan to be passed over for president of his alma mater, Univ. of Mass.). With antisemitism in Spain at an all-time high, Obama's choice of Solomont could not have been worse.
16. No. 14 Robert
NYC Girl   (02.19.10)
I beg to differ with you. When an ultra-Orthodox Jew is used to characterize the State of Israel (an utterly ludicrous stereotype at best), it is certainly not intended to be complimentary. These people are perceived to be primitive religious fanatics in most of the civilized world, including Israel, and the attempt to portray them as "typical Israelis" is totally specious.
17. Not "provoking" anti-Semitism in Spain?
Menachem ,   Israel   (02.19.10)
Spain is already one of the most anti-Semitic countries in Europe so there is no need to worry about statements that might "provoke" anti-Jewish feelings in the homeland of the Inquisition. Jew-haters (including some Jewish-born like Pappé and Chomsky) cause anti-Semitism, not the Jewish people.
18. #16 Stereotypes
Menachem ,   Israel   (02.19.10)
I agree with you that the Spanish "art" is clearly based on anti-Jewish bias. However, your anti-Haredi bias is no less disturbing. The overwhelming majority of Haredi Israelis are law-abiding citizens who care both about their families and Israel at large. Yes a vocal minority among Haredim are religious fanatics but so are some secular extremists. Most Haredi Israelis are for more civilized than most so called "civilized" people in Europe, in the US and elsewhere.
19. UZI MENORA STAR OF DAVID etc.etc.
Leif Erik H.Niclasen ,   Argir Faroe Island   (02.19.10)
You are walking around in the desert for many days whitout water and you see an UZI or a MENORA you know you are at home, you will begiven water shelter food medicin care love and lots of hug´s and joy and freedom to walk around saying hallo to every one you meet whitout fear of getting a knife betveen your ribs in your back or your neck. which other country can say the same, and on top of all we give back, we talk bad we are telling stories there are not true we attack them we hate them we killed them every were we destroy them all over the world and again they travel around the world trying to help anyone in need. In my heart there is a big Star of David engraving for ever. The JEW and ISRAEL have tho most wonderful religion, also the the best of the best GOD too, together with Christians we share the same GOD and Messiah coming again and then there will be peace not a second before. so read your bible and stop messing around and tell or making terrible stories about the CHOSEN PEOPLE but find the way to love them and bless them then ABRAHAM ISAK and JACOB´s GOD will bless you and your country too. SHALOM from Faroe Island hava a good SHABAT and to all others a good weekend
20. Jewish US Ambassador attended art show
Gershon ,   USA   (02.19.10)
"Ambassador Solomont participated in the opening of the ARCOmadrid_2010 exhibit L.A.: Invisible City. Los Angeles is the guest city at this year’s edition of the International Contemporary Art Fair, ARCOmadrid_2010...In his remarks, Ambassador Solomont noted his personal affection for art and offered his congratulations to the organizers..." http://madrid.usembassy.gov/publicaffairs/publicprogen.html#solomontARCOe Solomont founded J Street which claims to be pro-Israel and he is a prominent member of various other left-wing Jewish organizations. Will Solomont, a major Obama campaign donor, make a statement condemning Merino's antisemitic sculptures or supporting Jews or Israel?
21. A better scupture would have been a menora on the Hebrew
Rivkah   (02.20.10)
alphabet letter zain which also means a weapon in Gesenius' Hebrew Lexicon.
22. Ugly truth
alex C ,   Reno, Nevada   (02.27.10)
Showing our "Uber mensch" their ugly face... Yes, this is who we became, Hertzl's dream accomplished, congratulations! BTW, the menora sticking out of the Uzi idea was taken off the cover of the book by an israeli writer Israel Shamir - the rare example of an Israeli without superiority complex...
