Few days back we read an article in Ynet stating that the 5+1 were 'jointly' working on sanctions,sorry, 'punitive sanctions' for Iran.Although we pointed out that Russian never worked in that particular meeting to start with.Now comes a clearer picture emanating from the 'horses mouth' stating that Russia will NOT participate in imposing any sanctions on energy and banking sectors.They may agree on pistachio,however :) :) :) :)

If the russian support for Iran is based on its current & expected economic or political benefits, it will only result in longer term failure because it it just leadind to the opposite outcome they are hoping for. Their refusal to back effective sanctions added to that of China is not protecting Iran & their interests. It just hasten the day war on Iran is going to start. It leaves Israel if not the US only one alternative to prevent an other Holocaust which Ahmadinejad has clearly promised. And it garantees a messy war with heavy losses for every party but particularly for Iran since extensive destruction will be required to "soften" the regime.

You are forgetting that there is no example in modern times of a dictatorial regime lasting very long: Napoleon (one of the smartest !), Hitler, Staline....soon Ahmadinejad. They carry their own inherent destructive genes. And those who associate with dictators or terrorists end up regreting it : see Staline & Hitler, the USA & Bin Ladin in the fight against the soviets in afghanistan... As they say: play with the devil & you get hell. Nothing good can be expected from dictatorships especially for their own subjects, but fortunately they ALWAYS FAIL in a bad way. And the Iran kind which wants to retrograde to ways of the middle ages is certain to end up in the "dustbin of history" .
