31. Amazingly enough, the Charedei get along quite fine
Jacob Blues ,   New York City   (03.03.10)
in New York City. The MTA doesn't put up with this nonsense and neither should the Israeli bus lines. Rather than push women to the back of the bus, Egged can hand out paper blinders to those who can't stomach the idea that there are two sexes; men and women, living in the world. You want to place yourself in a monestary, fine, go find a cave and commune in silence. But this segregation is past the idea of kedusha and into outright mishugas.
32. Backward jewish society..
rami of nazareth ,   Israel   (03.04.10)
33. 14: If men sit in the back their eyes can still be polluted
Rivkah   (03.04.10)
by immodestly clad women in front of them on the bus. Women should sit in the back so men don't see them.
34. G-d did not require sexual seperation
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (03.04.10)
It’s time that the orthodox learn to differentiate between G-d ‘s requirements and the interpretation of humans. The orthodox must open their minds and learn the difference between Halacha and Torah. Halacha is manmade and is therefore prone to error. Time to stop this blind following of the “Shulcan Aruch & Mappa” both based on 16th century ideas and come into the 21st century.
35. 28 R. of nowhere
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.04.10)
You can't compare two HUMANS [ you are'n in this category ] with two different fruits . When i say EQUAL , that means the same RIGHTS , the same BRAINS [ something you have'nt ] . Don't bring in your god , inexisting for me , and for every SANE person .
36. 33 , sight NOT polluted by looking at nice women
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.04.10)
Only when seeing bigots can sane men's eyes be polluted
37. They need a lot more divisions but where to put unics?
Josh   (03.04.10)
I think to be really really holey (full of torah bpeh holes) we should sketch up a more ignorant yet thurough plan: One separation for gay dati men. One separation for heloni gay men. One separation for gay dati women. One separation for normal dati women. One separation for gay heloni women One separation for normal heloni women One separation for straight dati men One separation for normal heloni men Repeat the above for muslims but I think all the Christians can sit together they do in church. But where to put the unics, children, transvestites and other religions? We need double decker busses for this to work. Long street cars! Yeah! Better idea. Lets just poke everybody on the eye with a dirty finger when the get on the bus and spray them with novocane. Then they will be so busy roiling in pain, blinking and too numb to feel the person sitting next to them. Whalla a false Torah fence to make the sinners who add to Torah happy. We will need paper towels for when they drool. Try reading Devarim 4:2. NO ADDITIONS! Sit where you want and keep you Torah responsibility to not lay with the one next to you if it is forbidden or covet someone elses wife. Enough said. Guess were all in the same bus when you put it that way. Torah requires self control not stupidity and illegal additions. Remember it is a choice.
38. #37 finally a sane voice in the desert
Lisa   (03.04.10)
Josh- you are finally a sane voice in this desert of religious fanatism and self delusion. People have to start taking on responsibility for themselves and not blame every one else, quoting Torah etc as an excuse.- Keep your 'impure' thoughts in check- don't expect other people to do it for you-. The entire discussion and all the demands are started by people who have no self control, weaklings, whimps- who expect the rest of the world to make life easy for them- Life is never easy- get over it- grow up!
39. Left & Right is a proposal that
m&m   (03.04.10)
would fit best... allowing sick woman to sit in front, married couple to sit next though separated, because the goal is not to blind men from women sight (in that case they should be living in # towns) but not to touch one another voluntarily or not, although there is no perfect mean if people try to do what is bad for them.
40. #8 and Hashem
Michael ,   Haifa   (03.04.10)
Who is Hashem ? A regulator in the Ministry of Transport, maybe ?
41. #18 Thanks, Larry, so give the charadi buses and licenses to
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (03.04.10)
operate them. This is not unsolvable. Of Course, you could let the women sit on the lower level and put seats for the men on top of the bus. Put a separate section blocked from view for men too feeble to climb on top.
42. TO ALL TALKBACKERS - CLARIFICATION
gabriela ben ari ,   Jerusalem   (03.05.10)
Segregated buses have nothing to do with religious peolple or observance of Torah Has everything to do with setting up a new religion a .k.a. Hareidim, who can only emotionally get by by redifining Judaism and deligitimazing the religious national camp. Their Holier than thou attitute substituted mainstream halacha a long while ago Nothing to do with Torah, sorry to disappoint our regular Ynet dati haters
43. #42 Most ceratainly it is religious
Anon   (03.05.10)
Agree with you that it has nothing to do with Torah and the holy supermen grandstanding, Possibly before chalking everyone up as "haters" you might reconsider the points being made rather than defaming the commentor. No one takes a person who uses cheap defemation tactics serious anymore. The game is so overused on the internet that most see through it as a indicator of a liar. That is becase so many have been the victim of false labels on modern websites.
44. Gabriela , That's also what i think
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.05.10)
and say : it are NOT sane people who want it . The same as saying that NK are religious Jews , they are'nt .
45. #42 Nothing to do ...
Ellen ,   Arad, State of Anarc   (03.05.10)
If you are right where is the outcry from the mainstream religious against it? If they raised their voices they could stop it. The only ones protesting are the usual old civil rights groups. "If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem"
46. Bus segregation
Carolyn ,   Mississippi, USA   (03.05.10)
As a Jew in Mississippi I find it appalling that some places in Israel would make women sit at the back of the bus. Unbelievable!
47. 45, Ellen and 44 Charles
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (03.07.10)
45 Ellen I totally agree, we should be doing more! I also understand hareidim tried to set up their own bus lines and egged+municipality+ transportation ministry aborted their idea and outlawed it. Which is unfortunate for everyone. I think this gorup of people is utterly bored not working enough and is finding time to become talibanier by the day 44: Again, agreed
48. Gabriella , read my # 21
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.07.10)
regarding new bus lines . Egged and Dan lines have lost their "monopoly" . Other companies have entered the market , always by making the best offer when a tender was issued . I think that i'm right here , having seen this change in my town .
49. #42 Gabriela
Lisa   (03.08.10)
I am glad to hear this- thought it was just me the non-Jew being offended by this idea. Whys is this even discussed then? Why should the State, who represents the citizens of a Democracy, pay or support an idea like segregated buses- segregated anything for that matter? It is against all democratic laws. People in the free world have fought long and hard for equality- so let's have it- for all. Religious groups all over the wolrd, who have refused to adjust and adapt to the times, have always had to chose between adjustments or exile- forced or of their free will.
50. 49 , Lisa , not your problem
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.09.10)
You are'nt concerned at all . Not Jewish nor living here .
51. #50 dear Charles
Lisa   (03.10.10)
this is where you are WRONG-- segregation is against human rights in a democratic society- in America, in Israel, in Iran, everywhere- it is everybody's business when a segment of society is wronged. People have fought long and hard for many years for human rights- and YOU are now saying it is not my nor anybody else's business outside Israel?. If this is permitted and becomes reality, Israel will have just sunk back to the darkest ages- letting religious fanatics dictate what the general public is allowed to do. Reminds me an awful lot of what happens in countries run by muslim fanatics. Congratulations on your insight.
52. its not so black and white
choony ,   new jersy usa   (03.11.10)
thats what the hareidim want egged doesnt let them so the compromise is to accomadate them
53. Moshe Feinstein didn't see segregation as necessary
observant woman ,   tsfat   (04.01.10)
he even said that it was ok for unrelated men and women to sit next to each other on the bus, as the seats were separate. and if he, the gadol of the generation thought so, it should be good enough for the rest of us! never mind the fact that pregnant women and children tend to get travel sick more often than men and feel better when they sit in the front. making stringencies like this just pushes people away from keeping Torah, which is surely the opposite of what we want.
54. crazy
nimrod ,   israel   (04.26.11)
who cares so much about modesty these days ? the chareidim are becoming two groups: one who go by the laws and those who do what is comfortable for them!
55. sippurey maasiyot
leora ,   tzfat   (04.26.11)
to number 53 - you have very wishy washy hashkafas.
56. thank you ynet
todah ,   israel   (04.26.11)
may g-d bless all those who keep the torah without the wishy washy hashkofas amen!
57. cell phones
roy ,   vermont   (04.27.11)
with cell phones today modest bus seating shouldn't be a problem!
