1. Hoorah for Abbas.
Yitzchak ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (03.09.10)
Hoorah for Abbas. He is the best hope for the Jews. He will never agree to any peace as long as the Jewish State continues to exist at all. He will never NEVER recognize our existence. He indeed is our best defense for keeping all of Israel for ourselves. Hoorah for Abbas!
2. summary
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (03.09.10)
There can be no peace with Hamas because their minimal demands are impossible for Israel to meet. Fatah can't be elected if they demand any less than Hamas. Logical conclusion: it does not matter whether Hamas or Fatah are elected, there can be no peace.

5. Israel & Palestinians
Al ,   Enfield   (03.09.10)
It is easy to see that there is no appettite for a peaceful settlement. Israel has a siege mentality brought about by the fact that the aim of a significant number of Palestinians is not peace but the destruction of the Jewish State. The remaining Palestinians are boxed into a corner. The principal talent & weapon of Hamas and Hezbollah is propagandist and they play to the sympathies of other muslims throughout the world and are effective.

Back in 1990 Israel defeated the First Intifada, Fatah faded into irrelevance and it seemed that peace was around the corner: Israeli sovereignty over Gaza, Judea and Samaria with autonomy for the Arab residents. Then Israel imported Fatah into the Gaza, Judea and Samaria and gave them weapons. The Fatah successfully murdered any Arab interested in peace, and educated their children that the Jews are subhumans that must be exterminated or exiled. Hamas succeeds because it has the same aims as Fatah, but is less corrupt and does not collaborate with the Americans who are seen by Muslims as supporting dictatorships (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan) to steal oil income from the Muslim people.
7. Do Israelis want peace?
(03.09.10)
Let's put things straight here, because I feel like Israelis are being defiantly misled by their government and media's account of what goes on in the Palestinian territories. In the past 4 years, Palestinian higher command gradually waved thorough attacks on paramilitary movements and their infrastructures, which was one of the main triggers of the current Palestinian strife. The PA has fulfilled all its other obligations according to the roadmap, and there's little they are willing not to do just to attain peace. Israel however seems going further right, both government and public, and it is defying all international and moral standards to fulfill its obligations, which are much lower than what the international law calls for. I hope that someone could explain to me why the Israeli left is not going to the streets, contesting their government's stance towards Palestinians and the peace process. Unless of course what seems the logical reason, which is their disinterest in a peaceful settlement when they can get more land as they're the more powerful side in the balance of powers?

Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.09.10)
You are crazy. The Arabs have not fulfilled a single obligation, in fact they just violated yet another one. They have not amended their charter, they have not only allowed terrorist attacks Fatah has committed a majority of them. They continual incite violence on a daily basis. Their actions in Judea and Samaria totally violate every agreement that they have ever signed. I challenge you to produce a single obligation that they have fulfilled even for one day. Go ahead I bet you can't.
9. "White" Intafada
Jack ,   Fort Collins, CO   (03.10.10)
Too late! The Quisling regime of Assad and Fayad will never regain the trust of the Palestinian people. They have been exposed for what they are. They sold out their people for a mess of porridge - a big car, some VIP treatment at checkpoints, perks of office, financial gain. They have lost all trust. It is too late for small gestures to redeem it. They must all leave the scene and let new leadership take over that is really interested in the Palestinian people and their rights under international law.
10. Who cares whether Fatah or Hamas terrorists win the election
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.10.10)
Fatah and Hamas terrorists are identical in most respects. The differences favour Hamas. Hamas are the more honest terrorists. They tell the truth about their genocidal intentions in every language. Fatah does so mainly in Arabic. Fatah has also been much more successful in murdering and maiming far more Jews than it's terrorist rivals. Who cares whether Fatah or Hamas terrorists win the election? Both are mortal enemies which must be driven from our land, with all their followers, forever.

14. I can just see Abbas waiting patiently in line at a checkpoi
zionist forever   (03.10.10)
Does anybody seriously think the Fatah officials are going to give up their air conditioned Mercedes for an old banger? Does anybody seriously believe that Fatah officials will be willing to sit and wait in line at roadblocks just like everybody else? Its all very well Fatah officials banning palestinians from being cheap labour for Israel and putting tens of thousands of them out of work while the Fatah top brass will continue to earn good money for cushy jobs. Israel will manage just fine without them, those jobs will very quickly be filled by foreigners who will do the job for the same price. The loosers are the palestinians who need those jobs to feed the family. Their economic ties to Israel are like a crutch that they need to survive. Take away that crutch for ideology and they will fall and their economy will go from bad - worse. They are trying to operate like an independent state without having the foundations of a state. Reminds me of the far left who think they have all the answers but put them in a position of power and they will discover that its not as easy to run a country on far left ideals as it is to preach them. We embraced oslo and were promised peace but instead it brought us terror & we had made the PLO legitimate and giving them a place to launch terror attacks. We left Lebanon & thought it would finally bring us peace on the Lebanese front but we got another war & soldiers kidnapped. We left Gaza thinking we will finally have peace on that front but instead Sderot became a rocket testing facility. If the PA are so desperate to go it alone let them, they will fail and their people will resent them for it.
