The US is too overcome with hesitance to deliver on its security promise to Israel, and there are too many ex-Communists in the UN Security Council to bring about meaningful sanctions, not to mention Europe's scofflaw attitude toward trade with the apocalyptically minded Iranian regime (see Italy's strong ties to Iran's space program, alongside growing EU trade volumes with Iran). In other words, the US has failed the quid pro quo. Israel is under no obligation to shown restaint any longer.
