1. Another reason to love Spain besides soccer and the ladies.
Dave ,   States   (03.14.10)
I have been looking for reports of this nature the whole time. Little I knew was that El País has been stepping up to the plate and just doing that. Thanks for the info, now I have to subscribe to El País along with The British Guardian, The Independent, Times...
2. Same in Germany and maybe all over Europe
Carsten Schmidt ,   Germany   (03.14.10)
The anti Israel bias in the media is all too obvious. Experts on Israel quoted in the media are typically Uri Avnery (very accessible because he speaks German), Ilan Pappe and Tony Judt. Sometimes also Norman Finkelstein. Critical journalists (means that do not follow the anti Israel mainstream) are shunned or even laid off by their employers, f.i. Ulrich Sahm by German news channel n-tv. CS
3. All anti Israel reporters should be thrown out!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (03.14.10)
Even if they are Israeli citizens.
4. to #2 that is because Muslims work
ghostq   (03.14.10)
in the media networks.
5. Critic is good
Takan ,   Elat   (03.14.10)
If it is constructive and based on facts. This guy is a clown with an agenda and should be dealt with, by Israeli authorities. I believe after such an article, the guy will need security to keep working in Israel. We can agree to disagree and that's a rare thing in the Middle East but this forged propaganda against us is viciously damaging.
6. #3 It's ok to be anti Israel
Takan ,   Elat   (03.14.10)
Critic is good as I said in another post, and we can only be proud of having reporters that can work freely. But if a reporter is obviously twisting facts, or reporting bogus news just to degrade Israel, he should be treated as a lawbreaker. A panel should be created to investigate on this kind of complaints and offenders should be dealt accordingly. They should be forced by law to print an apology on incorrect journalism and this should be published by the Medias internationally. If the reporter refuses to apologize for his "mistake" he should be dealt with consequently. An Israeli journalist should be fined or jailed (giving the harm the panel would evaluate) and foreigners should be expelled and banished from Israel for several years. We could start by asking this Juan to print an apology for reporting Tel Aviv as the capital of Israel. That is evidently a "mistake", not a critic.
7. Sorry not Juan, Jose!
Takan ,   Elat   (03.14.10)
José Manuel Sánchez Gordillo. http://blog.z-word.com/2008/09/jose-manuel-sanchez-gordillo-and-pseudo-martyrdom/#more-284
8. the 'flavour of the times is .......
tiki ,   belgium   (03.14.10)
Israel bashing, why?..... it sells newspapers, it attracks TV-viewers, it fills up chat rooms! It's all about the money. In the Jom Kippur war I had, an 'independed' Spanish journalist friend, who told me that you MUST give the people what they want, otherwise "we'll be all out of a job". It's as simple as that. In the meantime, newspapers/media can write/bash, people can talk/ protest or whatever and ISRAEL does what it does best....it BUILDS and GROWS. It's an economic powerhouse, not like bankrupt Spain and other EU Israel bashers. That's the 'crux of the whole thing, "those 'shit Jews (Israeli's) are succeeding, we cannot let THAT happen".
9. no problem with CONSTRUCTIVE criticism...
shadoil ,   Jerusalem   (03.14.10)
but one sided anti-Israel bashing? Send them packing! Throw them out until they sign a jounalisitc ethics agreement to report fairly
10. Israel has a promised future - not so Europe !
Jaacov Baumann   (03.14.10)
I dont worry so much anymore about Israel - God has promised to keep and protect it ! But who will keep and protect Europe, or the US ? fear nobody - because I htink God has forsaken Europe and the US for its hostility towards Israel ! Europe and the US couldnt have a more dangerous enemy than the Almighty - they are such fools : Its writtten for hundreds of years that '' He who curses Israel is cursed ! You see the cursing in Europe and in the US ? Its more than obvious ! Will they listen ? I dont think so, its as if they love selfdestruction ! But Israel will rejoice with his faithful God !!!
11. the capital of Israel
flagburner ,   JPN   (03.14.10)
However, I wonder why Jerusalem is not recognised as the capital of Israel... Ooops, I thought Tel-Aviv is the capital because there're many foreign embassies and consulates.
12. Demonizing Israel?
A.H.   (03.14.10)
Or demonizing the messenger?
13. The political divide
Inyaki ,   Bilbao, Basque   (03.14.10)
In Spain there is a clear political divide between the left loonies and the PP-popular party which has a reasonable approach to Middle East Conflict. I have stopped reading El Pais for that reason they are a bunch of commisars from the Socialist party, which call themselves the forces of progress and are so loony to suggest the Alliance of civilizations. Not to worry, they will be kicked out in 2 years.
14. Sorry guys, but...
Armando ,   Spain   (03.14.10)
Ussia is an aristocrat, the son of a Count that writes on a minor newspaper, La Razon, that is a far-far right newspaper, a "franquist" (i.e.: former fascist dictator Franco's supporter) newspaper, full of franquist writers and director. Sorry again, but this is the kind of people that supports Israel today in Spain. On the contrary el Pais is a liberal newspaper.
15. The message in the wall
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (03.14.10)
WE know that the European leftist press is one sided and that there is nothing we can do about it. The shame, the BIG shame is that we have to suffer Haaretz spreading it's venom all over the world! For sure there are many things we can do about that, like not giving governmental propaganda to Israel haters and asking all our friends to stop from buying it and investing in announcements there.
16. Ramallah
Ben ,   France   (03.14.10)
I didn't know Ramallah was in the jewish state.
17. To #15
EU   (03.14.10)
Of course there is one thing you can do. What about changing your behaviour with the Palestinians?
18. #10 Jacob I agree with your headline
Marek ,   Czech Rep.   (03.14.10)
surely Israel will survive all disasters right in the eye of the storm, but there are lovers of Israel everywhere. GOD will say the last word and he will judge the nations righteously .
19. El País ...
Antonio ,   Spain   (03.14.10)
If you take care about the best Spain-cracker daily, that prefers support someone with the lowest IC in the president 'set' of Spain, member of a mafia named Prisa, you're wasting your time. El Pais is read by a large mass of Spanish people, but these people is the same than vote for abort and later go to church, for example. One pick: Education's minister is Mr. Gabilondo, brother of Iñaki Gabilondo, most important periodist of SER, a company of PRISA Group ... Do you understand?
20. El Pais is of course a left-wing extremist paper
Jahn   (03.14.10)
And has been anti-Israel for decades. The moderately right paper ABC has supported Israel for decades. Conveniently, this fact has never been explored by the former mainstream media (now dead media).
21. Armando #14 - you just don't get it.
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (03.14.10)
What matters is not which party is behind the newspaper, or its ideology. What matters is the ACCURATE AND UNBIASED REPORTING OF FACTS, a test which El-Pais is proven to be a total failure in, and this column gives ample proof of that. But then again, it's nothing new that the term "liberal" provides condoning toward reporting lies, disinformation, one-sided stories, exaggerations, and insults against Israel.
22. to #17 and what would you do against rockets?
ghostq   (03.14.10)
would you sit still and let someone shoot at your cvilians? mmm I have strong feeling you won't, and as for the west bank they never miss a chanse of terror attack the last time Israel lifted road blockes, they planned to explode Israeli car on the high way that was 6 months ago. so you see, if road blocks prevent this behavior than good job for Israel.
23. Unfortunately, criticism of any color
Allan ,   Ft.Lauderdale   (03.14.10)
is the price for being a pluralistic democracy. The drivel this Spaniard writes is strictly for home audience consumption. Spain has nothing to offer Israel by way of economics, arts or politics. The fact that Israel allows this idiot to report from within its borders proves that Israel is a much more advanced and enlightened society. There's no love lost between the Jews and the Spaniards, considering the history of the two. Let him spew his drivel. Those in the Spanish intelligencia who know better will ignore it as nonsense and will publicly refute it. The ignorants who believe it as truth don't matter because they have nothing to contribute to intelligent discourse.
24. #10- why do you include the US??
mira ,   israel   (03.14.10)
the people of the US are a wonderful friends to israel.i think you mean the small antisemitic commonity in the USA. well some american jews can be included.
25. #14 El Pais a liberal daily? LOL!
Antonio ,   Spain   (03.14.10)
Armando, you're a funny funny guy. According to you and illuminated people like you, you have in Spain the moral authority, because everyone who is not leftist like you is "franquist", far right, killer and similar sweetness. And, in the same pocket are the Israel supporters, because Israelis were with Franco in the Civil War. You're so liberal ...
26. to #16 there is Ramla in the jewish state
ghotq   (03.14.10)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramla
27. Israel Losing PR Campaign
World Citizen   (03.14.10)
Face it. You can't put lipstick on a pig and expect it to be beautiful. Israel does bad things to the Palestinian people. Israeli citizens do bad things in foreign countries up to and including political murder. No matter what the Israeli government does to cover it up the truth always comes out. And to top it off, you have Bibbi, the best thing for negative publicity one could hope for. I love the guy. He is a goldmine of Israeli horror stories and I use them everyday in my daily rounds of the civilized World Internet.
28. To # 17 EU
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (03.14.10)
Dear Eu, Mysterious name BTW! Can you please explain to me why it's always Israel that must do this or that and not arabs? I would be more than happy to be enlighten by you!
29. #21
Armando ,   Spain   (03.14.10)
It's me who dont get it? Is the whole world who is biased against Israel?
30. to #22
EU   (03.14.10)
You would be right, if your behaviour wouldn't have been the same for decades, with or without Hamas, with or without rockets, before and after the rockets. In any case with or without rockets the killing of hundreds of children will provoke this kind of feelings among world people.
