31. I Must Have A Feeble Mind
NOACH ,   USA   (03.21.10)
I didn't realize that providing academic scholarships to combat soldiers was racist? In fact there were Arab combat soldiers that fought and died for THEIR COUNTRY ISRAEL. Their funerals were not attended by their Arab neighbors. It seems to me that these pieces of legislation are not racist against Arabs but protect non-Arabs from Arab racism. If that is the Arab definition of racism, then yes, these bills are racist.
32. WHAT IS THE MOSSAWA CENTRE? AND WHO PAYS THEM?
stude ham   (03.21.10)
this organization sounds like the usual anti-israel biased bunch of HR lefties. Ynetnews should have given their background. ... told us something about them...
33. Not racist enough...
Yerushalmi ,   Jerusalem   (03.21.10)
Those proposals were not passed as laws. They should have been. I would make one exception, it should not be illegal to work on replacing democracy with Davidic monarchy. This should be encouraged by the state. Anyway, I agree that it is not racism, all Jews of all races and colours of skin should have same rights under proper theocratic regime (word theocracy was created by Josephus Flavius to describe ideal jewish form of goverment).
34. Massawa Center is RACIST!!!!!!!!!
Yoni ,   Naharia   (03.21.10)
We have an arab NGO that is producing anti-Semitic, Anti Government hate literature calling Israel racist. DUH!!! Try that in Iran, Iraq or Yemen. I am sure they could reproduce the anti-Semitic stuff but not the anti government hate rhetoric. Hmm, if they don't like it, leave it!
35. Israel Does Not Have A True Democracy!
Yoni ,   Naharia   (03.21.10)
The Israeli government is an Oligarchy. A true democracy has one vote per person for one candidate. In Israel we elect a party that gives out posts. We Israeli's have no say who gets to be in the Knesset. It is a British system of governing that is prone to corruption, graft and acting contrary to the wishes of the majority population. Most Sabras actually believe they have a democracy. I submit Israel has been run more like a communist country than any true democratic country.
36. WOW..THE KENESET KEEP TOPPING YOURSELVES YEAR AFTER YEAR...
ace ,   san francisco, ca   (03.21.10)
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, WELL SEE OURSELVES IN WW 3 SOON!! BRAVO TO RACISM.. CLAP CLAP CLAP...
37. #27 and others: nationalism or racism? not racist enough?
Lisa   (03.21.10)
you are probably quite right- and all the Arab states, Libya etc- would agree with you there. whatever it is, it is NOT democracy in the true sense- as long as you discriminate against people who are of a different race, bloodline or religion,- and gender -.
38. #35 No Such Thing
NOACH ,   USA   (03.21.10)
U.S. Has a representative democracy all other former British colonies/protectorates have parlimentary democracy. A pure democracy would be if every citizen voted for every piece of legislation, which is just not practical... Hence, it does not exist. Now, is representative democracy better than parliamentary democracy? That's a different question...
39. the inescapable logic of the israel-bashers
tom ,   toronto, canada   (03.21.10)
so, according to the mossawa center, it is racist to give scholarships to ex-soldiers (without reference to their ethnicity), but it isn't racist to exempt arab israelis from serving in the army! the rather obvious solution to this "problem" is to lift ALL military exemptions, and those who wish to not serve can choose freely between 3 years in "alternate service" or in a military prison.
40. #25: Official name is "State of Israel"
Corrector   (03.21.10)
and that is supposed to be a state for ALL its citizens. I don't recall any recent renaming into "State of Jews" or "Kingdom of Judea".
41. 35
zionist forever   (03.21.10)
Israels political system is very similar to that of many western European states problem is it doesn't work as well mainly because we have to many political parties. The British system is better where you vote for individuals and the party with the most politicians runs the country alone no deals to put together coalitions which creates unstable government and stale politics because its the same parties year in year out all that changes is which party is in charge. What would be more logical is for the smaller parties that stand for basically the same thing unite into a single party with muscle instead of just looking for seats in somebody elses government. A single natioinalist party A single religious party A single centre right party A single centre left party A single arab party Even thats to many but it would make for more stable government and parties influence with disprportionate amount of influence the way Shas do. So it is a democracy it just doesn't always work as well as it should in theory. There is also still a great deal of communist influence in Israel because it was founded on basic communist ideals and the far left are angry these old ideas are slowly being replaced by more free market and the far left don't like it and want to return to the old days where the state owned everything & nothing worked properly.
42. misinformation
mordechai taub ,   jerusalem   (03.21.10)
The Mossawa Center is related to in this article as an group that fights racisim as opposed to the racist anti Jewish group it is known to be to all who are familiar with it.
43. #38 Oligarchy A political system governed by a few people
Yoni ,   Naharia   (03.21.10)
You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts. British rule epitomizes the term Oligarchy! Israeli's have perfected the ineptness of British rule to a science.
44. inaccurate headline and opinion. better one is brain dead
ralph   (03.21.10)
group sees incomplete picture, motivated by distorted thoughts they grab the wrong headlines. shame on you for distorting m. this news story.
45. Those that do not serve in the I.D.F.
jason white ,   afula,israel   (03.21.10)
should not be allowed to vote, sit in the knesset, work in government, attend an institute of higher education or have a driver's license. Both Jews and arabs!
46. Israel was the last democracy of the ME
Democract   (03.21.10)
I always thought Arabs would destroy that system. I never imagined that self-destruction by Jewish lawmakers has put an end to it.
47. For 'racist'
Righteous Zionist ,   Israel   (03.21.10)
read 'sensible, realistic and patriotic'. And who is that Chaplinesque figure anyway? He needs a makeover.
48. Actually, I fail to see the "racism" in these bills
William ,   Israel   (03.22.10)
These bills are exactly the same in nature as those in many Western countries, including Egypt which just enacted a loyalty oath. There is nothing racist about Jerusalem being labeled as the capital of the Jewish State. There is nothing racist about giving advantages to those who serve in the armed forces. Every country gives these advantages. None of the Arabs want to do National Service (which would get them these type of benefits) let alone being in the IDF. Etc. etc. And Mossawa's citing of the South African incident as analogous to the 2000 riots? Please!!! In 1966, Blacks protested (peacefully) about a discriminatory law, in 2000 Arabs violently protested to support their terrorist brethren next door. BIG difference!! The only racism I see seems to be coming from the Arab side, which is upset that their attempts to steal away Jewish land and identity is being thwarted. After all, it is the Arabs in Israel that have drawn sectarian lines, not Israelis as a whole.
49. #9 - how has it changed from 1999?
William ,   Israel   (03.22.10)
I bet the same poll taken in 1999 would have seen Israelis overwhelmingly for equal rights and wanting Arab friends... but when you have an entire sector turn on you and support your enemies in dismantling your own State, and even politicians from this group actively aiding terrorist groups, you tend to become a bit more hardened. Let's do a poll of the Arab community and ask them how many want Jewish friends, want to do national service, or even live in equality where Arabs will have same rights but still not majority rule?
50. #7 - US presidents still place hand on the bible
William ,   Israel   (03.22.10)
So does that leave out those Americans who are atheists and non-Christians? I don't give a rats ass if you do not believe in the Jewish laws or even G-d for that matter. Israel IS a State built for Jews on Jewish Law. End of story. If that bothers you, why stay here? But even more pressing...why do you care? If you get all the secular services you pay taxes for, can freely live your homosexual lifestyle (and by that I mean not shoving it down everyone else's throats), and travel/work where you please...what problems do you have? There is NOT one State which is the best for each person in it's population. If you are upset at Israel's foundation, might I suggest N. Europe where they are uber-secular, very open sexually, and bleet about anything with major Leftist overtones. It seems to fit you well, but to ask an entire State to change just for your beliefs? That's chutzpah!
51. #13 - Judaism - both religion and population
William ,   Israel   (03.22.10)
Just as Iran is also named "The Islamic Republic of Iran" yet a good number of the Muslims are secular, and there are many non-Muslims there. Does that mean Iran is a virulently racist country? Where is your protest?
52. #35 - So the British style of govt is non-democratic?
William ,   Israel   (03.22.10)
That includes a lot of govts all over the world. So, in that case, I see Israel is in good company and the detractors' voices are even more meaningless. Thanks.
53. #37 - is it discrimination, or just majority vote?
William ,   Israel   (03.22.10)
According to you, "true democracy" means the minority gets everything they want. That's hardly true democracy. That's more like modern bastardized democracy through the corrupt lens of the Left. A true democracy is majority rule, with basic rights upheld. In other words, the majority cannot vote to strip the rights of the minority. In Israel, the rights of ALL populations are protected by law, including rights to worship. However, there is NO right to dissent against the State and destroy both its culture and the majority. That's called militancy and is considered treason....in soooo many countries today. Keep your tired dictionary manipulations for the next love-in on Berkeley's campus or MoveOn.Org fund-raisers.
54. Wonder if Mossawa Center ever investigated Arab MKs?
William ,   Israel   (03.22.10)
They'd find some real racism in their platforms, but also bite the hand that feeds them.
55. #1 - "as long as you're Jewish, religious, and heterosexual"
William ,   Israel   (03.22.10)
Let me guess which you aren't. Infact, who really cares? To Leftists like yourself, "democracy" means everyone gets whatever they want without regard for the person next to them. That sounds more like chaos to me than a well-functioning society. Unfortunately, in world where "democracy" is now defined as "steal the rights of the majority", the real premise of original democracy is fading away in the shadow of your tyrannical-version of rule.
