1. What hypocrisy as Kadima moved this plan forward
jason ,   haifa israel   (03.21.10)
Kadima is going after bibi when they rejected building on the sites of the graves too at a request from shas now they bash Bibi for what they did. Olmert and kadima delayed and delayed and appeased the haredi when they were in power. The hospital wing wouldn't been built already if they acted when this first came up. Livni on every issue is being hypocritical.
2. enough of the haredi
alexi   (03.21.10)
Bibi has to find another way than to submit to yishai and haredi in making a decision that is costly and impractical. A grave can be moved, an er should be left alone. Coalition politics dictate negotiation but allowing haredi to avoid idf, to avoid martial arts so they remain pussies who run to the idf for protection makes me sick. Torah study is not enough. Get the hell into the army.
3. grave of Jews or not?
observer   (03.21.10)
Ask the residents of Majdal - today Ashkelon - whose graves?
4. On principal
Ilana   (03.21.10)
If a patient gets killed, God Forbid, by a missile, because of this decision, Litzman should be tried for manslaughter!
5. Litzman.
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (03.21.10)
Stupidity beyond belief. Our pollies are a wretched and corrupt lot.
6.  Barzilai Hospital
Moshe ,   Argentina   (03.21.10)
Haredistan..........!
7. relocation of ER
roxie ,   K.HaimIsrael   (03.21.10)
Wait a minute don't the needs of the living take priority over the needs of the dead in this situation? The Gov. is putting lives in danger by delaying the fortifications because of a few corpses and having to spend more money to relocate the ER when the economy is not so strong is also wrong!
8. Iraq Burin is 9 km SW of Nablus, Awarta is 6 km S of Nablus
observer   (03.21.10)
was it a coincidence? No!, deterrence dictates concentration in one front.
9. Haredim making us look not just foolish but ridiculous
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (03.21.10)
There's plenty of precedent for moving even Jewish graves. Recall that in 2005 graves were removed as part of the evacuation from Gaza. If haredim were so concerned about this, why did THEY not bear the cost? Simple: because the rest were dumb enough to appease them.
10. necrophilia? Now wait just a minute
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (03.21.10)
Main Entry: nec·ro·phil·ia Pronunciation: \ˌne-krə-ˈfi-lē-ə\ Function: noun Etymology: New Latin Date: 1892 : obsession with and usually erotic interest in or stimulation by corpses. I don't think the possibility of moving the dead to accommodate the live constitutes the obsessive sexual interest in dead people. If this is an accurate translation of what was said the man who made the slur needs his head examined for twisting an argument beyond all reason resemblance to the facts. But this the far left Meretz. Don't expect reason and rationality
11. Litzman
Resistor   (03.21.10)
He looks like a garden gnome!
12. litzman worries more about the dead
jason white ,   afula,israel   (03.21.10)
than the living. The extra cost must be taken from the money the hara-dim receive from the state. Also they should move a few dozen yeshiva to surround the hospital. If missiles fall, then they should fall on the sixth column(hara-dim). Better on them than on Jews.
13. opposition without proportion
mordechai taub ,   jerusalem   (03.21.10)
With Kadima comparing Litzman's position to Hamas and Oron comparing it to necrophiliia we see that the opposition's major tactic remains constant, incite hate and divide the people.
14. very touching!
tom ,   toronto, canada   (03.21.10)
mk litzman's statement that he is against disturbing the graves of jews or non-jews calls this who;e discussion into question. if it were about halakha, then the issue would revolve around whether these are jewish or non-jewish graves. there have been plenty of ancient graves found at building sites in israel, and "suitable arrangements" have been made. the fact that mk litzman is willing to extend his concern to non-jewish graves, in a situation where lives are at stake (5 more qassams in the last 2 days), makes me wonder whether he missed school on t he day that they taught about piquah nefesh? because piquah nefesh is certainly more important than political posturing.
15. New graves to protect old graves?
Alfie Knowkes ,   Golan   (03.21.10)
Nobody builds medical facilities unless there is a specific need. Will these delays lead to avoidable deaths? What sort of ancient corpse would wish to harm future generations? These guys are on drugs and 70's horror movies.....dropouts.
16. Rasist double standard again
Hana ,   Jerusalem   (03.21.10)
If the Israeli government is so sensitive about dead "Jews or not", how can it support so called Museum of "Tolerance" at Mamilla Muslim graveyard in Jerusalem?
17. What's the big deal?
Dovid ,   New York   (03.21.10)
In New York, we protected a previously-unknown salve-burial site from development, why is this any different? This is a very reasonable compromise that gets us the fortified ER without disturbing the bodies, which such disturbance would go against the sensibility of a large part of the population. This does NOT pit the living against the dead, it finds a way to accommodate BOTH the living and the dead. The deal's naysayers appeal to emotion, not reason.
18. Hebrew article on topic adds more perspective
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (03.22.10)
With "milon" close at hand, I read this story on Ma'ariv's Hebrew site. What they bring out is not just local outrage over the decision, but the sense of betrayal of the Likud voters there who are merely "traditional". They pay their taxes, they want the new emergency room constructed in its original location without delay. They see the original funding wasted only to satisfy haredi strictures they don't abide. They see Bibi caving to haredim just as he's caving to Obama. Interesting. This affair does show the wisdom of the rabbinic principle that one does not impose a stringency that the tzibur (public) will not accept. It's not surprising that these traditionalists are calling for a full investigation of the decision. It's Litzman that should be resigning, not Hai-Am.
