Anybody who will now rise with "What the hell has Muslim inmates have with Jewish holly day? Give them normal bread" I will ask - would you get pork in Saudi Arabian jail if you are a Christian?
3. Well, I guess that's fair enough.
Israel   (03.24.10)
I bet Gilad Shalit won't be eating matzah - what's good for the goose...

Gee, my heart really bleeds for them! No bread....... I wonder what Gilad Shalit is eating for Pessach? Wonder if they're supplying him with matzoh and other requirements? It's time this Government stopped pampering and spoiling Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
5. We feed them?
Yaniv ,   Israel   (03.24.10)
6. I know what all of you would say if American prisons...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (03.24.10)
...refused to provide Kosher food....
7. why feed them to begin with?
Golan ,   modiin   (03.24.10)
of course I am joking. I am not heartless but "fresh bread" what arrogance! The argument is partly that he wants Jewish jail workers to handle and even bake bread for him on passover. the key is "fresh" and not bread. Next he will want fresh croissants and caviar.
8. poor palis he get to have big crackers instead of bread
ghostq   (03.24.10)
more whining, baaaaaa he is lucky his food doesn't come in liquid form, like in some prisons around the world, what a whiner, anyhow he is selfish crual individual asking to break jewish law just so his belly will be full, it's not like the jews prisoners in ramadan eat big breakfast right infront of him. palis got no tolerance to other religions.
9. Thousands of constipated inmates - Teva stock to rise...
Israel   (03.24.10)
10. Muslim Prisoners in a Jewish Gaol
Spencer ,   Israel   (03.24.10)
If this muslim had been a law abiding citizen he would not have had this "problem". He wasn't a "good boy" and ended up in a Jewish Gaol so he'll just have to keep to the rules of his Jewish Gaol
11. Cruel and unusual punishment...
J.B. Doom ,   Beautiful Gate   (03.24.10)
for such sweet and loving "human beings."

It's not the same thing. Muslim prisoners aren't violating any tenets of Islam by not eating bread for a week. However, observant Jews (which I certainly am not) would be in violation of Halacha. For that reason, not providing kosher food infringes on their ability to practice their religion, as would be the case if Muslim prisoners were only served non-Halal meat. Now if you want to talk about whether people who commit crimes should forfeit some of their rights, that's a different story. But think of it this way. Maybe the thought of having to eat matza for a week will make some of those criminals think long and hard about whether they want to choose a life of crime.
13. So why are non-Muslims expected observe Ramadan?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (03.24.10)
In many Muslim lands, even non-Muslims are expected to respect the Ramadan "fast" period, and are subject to arrest if caught violating the rules. Muslims have nothing to teach us about tolerance.
14. #6 drinking again or just stupid?
Ilan ,   Ariel   (03.24.10)
How is that a comparison to giving a Jewish inmate kosher food? Moslems can eat matza as it doesn't violate any of their religious needs. On the other hand to have chametz in the dining areas of Jewish prisoners forces them to eat chametz as it would get mixed into their dishes and food.
15. Let them celebrate Yom Kippur with us too !
Roland Seener ,   London England   (03.24.10)
16. #6 Dorothy are you wonderland?
Shame   (03.24.10)
They are not refusing them Halal food just no bread for a week. There is matza (unleavened bread) instead. What you suggest is taking away the freedom of religion from orthodox Jews in prison. You have shown your true side.
17. pita bread for gilad shalit&Matzah for Mahmoud Rayiq
secular beast   (03.24.10)
18. "fresh" bread? R U kidding me?
Ilana   (03.24.10)
When Gilad Shalit gets 10% if the basic rights they get things will be much better for him.
19. YES ALLOW BREAD (AND WATER) ONLY
JEWBIE ,   NYC USA   (03.24.10)
YES ALLOW BREAD (AND WATER) ONLY....until shalit is released.
20. They dont call matza the bread of afliction for nothing!
Mike ,   England   (03.25.10)
21. Bread of affilction
Paul Winter ,   Sydney Australia   (03.26.10)
In a secular state, there should be no cumpulsion regarding diets or practices. Jews and non-Jews alike should be provided with bread if they so choose. At the same time, IDF members should not be forbidden to eat in public during Ramadan. More to the point though, is that Israel should put an end to mohammedans poking Jews in the eye at every opportunity.
