1. Most kosher matzoh is fake
Israel   (03.25.10)
Show me where and how there could have been white flour in the pantries of Jews escaping out of Egypt thousands of years ago. Go on, quickly.
2. What kind of matza is this? Who buys it?
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (03.25.10)
What's wrong with the packaged matzas from reliable companies that are sold in supermarkets and grocery stores all over Israel?
3. #1 Welllll..
Talula ,   Israel   (03.25.10)
They quickly ran out to the fields, they chopped down wheat, brought it back to their little stone walled homes, picked out the bugs, cleaned it, then they ground the grains between two heavy rocks - then they got an SMS that Pharos’s men were having a change of heart - so Moses speeded up the action - he got everyone involved in the effort. Then he said sod it, we don’t have enough time to let it rise, bummer – we’ll have to haul ass out of here with flat bread. And that is how it happened.
4. You mean 5 1/2 days a week
Israel   (03.25.10)
Shabbat starts on Friday. Can't help but think it's divine intervention. Maybe it's a sign from God saying enough with the matzah eating, you've proved your point.
5. proof that most matzah is fake
observer   (03.25.10)
nothing mentioned in the bible about the unleavened bread being corrugated. in the biblical time there was no method of corrugation.
6. Wouldn't these "pirate matzas" be made by Jews?
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (03.25.10)
I mean, who else makes matza? So that would mean one of us is cheating others of us -- say it isn't so, Joe!!!!
7. #2 Dotty darling, get with the program!!
Talula ,   Israel   (03.25.10)
Just like you have Nike rip-offs and other infringements of registered patents out there, thought by some to be a money making spin, someone had the same idea about making matzah for pessach. Do you understand now, Sweetheart?
8. No. 3 Talula
NYC Girl   (03.25.10)
Actually, I like your version a lot better than the original one.
9. Fake Matsoth , or shoes or watches
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.25.10)
are fakes . Those making them should be severely punished . I don't think that serious supermarkets sell those matsoth with a fake Kashrut stamp . But attention if you see "cheap" packages , from unknown factories at small shops or markets . And , Dorothy , Yes those fakes are most certainly made by Jews . Reshet Beth talked about such a factory in Beer Tuvia [ i think it was there , not sure ]
10. Aside from the Sedars I refuse to eat this sawdust
Al   (03.25.10)
and so after the two sedars I dont eat it and usually drop 6 lbs over the holiday. Do you know what true punishment is? Being forced to eat matzah for 8 days and not having prune juice at the ready. Come to think of it prune juice is more expensive than blueberry juice.
11. I'm besides myself with worry now
Talula ,   Israel   (03.25.10)
What if I go and buy a packet of fake matzah? what will happen to me? Will I turn to stone? will I be turned away and shunned by God, struck down? I'm frantic now with worry..............................NOT! Those religious ones are always looking for a bargain, they'd better be extra vigilant . Imagine the riots if one of them accidentally munches on a faux matzah. You gotta love this country!!!!!!!
12. How --
Christy ,   Boston, US   (03.25.10)
How did they trace the fakes to the warehouse?
13. This is interesting, because...
Paul ,   USA   (03.25.10)
I did not realize the grain itself, had to be kosher. I thought that it was the process of making grain into matzah, that needed to be monitored under Rabbinic supervision.
14. #13 - Everything has to be kosher!!!!
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (03.25.10)
Chickens are fed kosher feed months ahead of time to assure the eggs are kosher! If there is money in it for the kasruth inspectors, you can be sure that they will find a way to make it kosher for Passover!
15. Al, 2 sedars
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (03.25.10)
If I was staying in Israel for Pesach then I would have only one sedar but since I will visiting my parents in Canada then there will be two sedars. The 2 sedars will be the only time that I eat matzah.
16. Is this what Judaism is about?
noa ,   israel   (03.25.10)
I would be sympathetic, but so many religious businessmen have no problem cheating in other areas of life and cheating other people. So, it's almost like giving God lip-service. I would think that being religious and authentic isn't enough. I think God expects goodness to stretch into all areas of life.
17. Judah Enjoy your parents while you can
Al   (03.25.10)
once they are gone..its bitter Happy Passover kid.
18. Great
Yakov ,   Chelm   (03.25.10)
next thing you know, there is made in Korea matzah. What else is next?
19. #13 - flour moisture is also monitored
William ,   Israel   (03.26.10)
20. #15 - be sure to drink plenty of water
William ,   Israel   (03.26.10)
up to 3x of normal daily consumption. Don't be a statistic.
21. LOL, #14, Dorothy, thanks for your response.
Paul ,   USA   (03.26.10)
22. matza
colin   (03.26.10)
Such a pity that politics control the lives of Israelis. A bakery in the south sells matza !!!Will not pay the rabbinout extortion CALL THE MATZA NON KOSHER This is the only matza i wiil buy. Where is the finance ministry who looses taxes from closing another factory??. Where is the ministry of labour ??How many jobs were lost to this kosher lie.???
23. basic journalism?
tom ,   toronto, canada   (03.26.10)
this article fails to cover the basics of "who, when, where, and why". and it's not just the "orthodox" who care about being ripped off, and about matzah that isn't really matzah.
24. To #7 : Are the the Matzah made in China?
Philippe Delaporte ,   Marseilles France   (03.26.10)
Put the factory making them stamp every Matza as genuine. Nice laugh!!
25. OOOOOOOOOOHHHHH NOOOOOO!
Hebrew Slave   (03.26.10)
Those poor Hebrews way back when didn't have a certificate either. ooohh nooo! When will we stop making a dog and pony show out of baking bread before it leavens. This coming from Rabbis who tell people to eat reclined as free men in contradiction to G-d's specific instructions to remeber the hurried meal that was prepaired before bread could leaven by sitting with shoes on your feet, loins girded and walking staff in hand. The first fast food. Farce and friars. Pay someone to certify mucking up pesach? Is it showing leavening? No. Then its kosher matzah.
26. Wine libation for the eternal hevean dwelling Eliyahu...
Josh   (03.26.10)
...and you wonder if the Matzah that is clealy unleavened is kosher certified according to made up law that violate Devarim 4:2?. Maybe a reading of Torah is in order because someone missed the curses for recognizing another man created to a "g-d" before the true G-d. So an enternal heaven dwelling prophet who encouraged pagans to build an alter and rather than tearing it down as the law states. This Pesach centepiece libation of wine for a man g-d is the very one who "fixed" a pagan alter and sacraficed to G-d on this pagan alter? This man worthy of attention on this sacred holiday as "kosher approved"? ... but a cracker passed for unleavened bread needs a bought and paid for with a rabbinic certificate? I get it. Choose life and choose death.
27. Openly Non-Kosher Matzah
Josh S ,   San Jose, USA   (03.26.10)
In American supermarkets, every year I see Matzah that is openly marked as being NOT Kosher for Passover. Does anyone know who eats that stuff and why? I've always been curious.
28. Matza
Albi ,   Ashkelon   (03.27.10)
I think they should check for fake rabbis, like ones who build fake ERs in parking lots far from the hospital, or those who check for kashrut with a check. Money, money, money, that's what it's all about.
29. Prohibition over again!
Semper Fi! ,   San Diego, USA   (03.27.10)
Now they must get the rabbanut certificate to be Kosher for Passover. I'm curious to know whow it works. Do they compare them, do they stamp the matza or do they blackmail the factory to get their dues. By the way, I'm selling fake matzot on ebay along with Vuitton bags and Rolex watches...Any bids?
30. #27 IIt is for other times of the year.
Josh   (03.27.10)
Sometimes you just have to have one of those dry tasteless crackers to munch on or to use in e recipe. So when it is not pesach, You can buy a cracker matzah to use in your cooking without paying a ridiculous price.
