1. Schizophrenic Policy
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (03.27.10)
Either Israeli law runs in Gaza, in which case Israel is an occupier, or Israeli law does not apply in Gaza, in which case, what happens in Gaza is none of Israel's business. You cannot be out and in at the same time. The free kill zone says you're in and occupiers. If you don't want the responsibility, stay out and end the free kill zoning. Who is sovereign in Gaza, Israel or somebody else. Trying to have both is schizophrenic and is killing IDF soldiers (3 this week) and occasionally innocent Palestinian civilians. Stop lying to yourselves and make a decision that is defensible to the world. There are no special Israeli Geneva IV rules. Stop pretending there are.
2. How much more.......
Rose ,   Vancouver, Canada   (03.27.10)
land on the Palestinian side of the fence does Israel plan to claim as their own. 5 miles, 10 miles? Israel and the IDF act like there is no limit to what they claim to need for "security".
3. decided on his own to lead his men into Gaza
observer   (03.27.10)
Through the intervention of Esther, Mordecai obtains from the king the revocation of the royal decree ordering the extermination of the Jews; and a new edict is issued permitting the Jews to exterminate the population of those places in which they might be attacked. Netanyhu (Mordecai) did not have Esther (Jewish loopy) to show up at the meeting with Obama (King Ahasuerus ) so that Palestinian (population) survived the extermination.
4. What will the big Bullies now do ??
Peter Morris ,   New Zealand   (03.27.10)
Maybe kill a whole lot of women and children and after reading Goldstones report there probably isn't any crime the IDF hasn't tried.
5. Thank you, Obama, for the new war
Sheba ,   New York, USA   (03.27.10)
6. Palestinian fighters justified as they defended their land
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (03.27.10)
Israeli aggressor got their lessons for entering muslim land. Hamas will give second blow to IDF if operation was done, except for IAF airbombing civilians and killing children again.
7. What on earth was Israel thinking
Iyad ,   Scotland, Dundee   (03.27.10)
What the palestinians were doing in their own land was palestinian business!! They can plant what ever devices they want to protect their homeland on their side of the fence. Israel, the school bully, can not tolerate Gaza, the small schoolboy from wearing a protective raincoat from the rain!! So it decides to rip it off him...well the little schoolboy scratches back... Israel got what it deserves
8. vast experience in probing since 2006
observer   (03.27.10)
Major Peretz decided on his own to lead his men into Gaza; the worst excuse is to blame the victim. So, where was the communication between him and the people of the head quarter & field operation. Has Netanyahu returned humiliated from his trip to the White House because he acted on his own.
9. "mistakes in Gaza"
Sagi   (03.27.10)
1. Gaza exists. 2. Gaza is not annexed to Egypt. 3. Hamas is in power. 4. It is called part of Palestine 5. IDF enters the hornets nest. This territory should be sealed off hermetically from Israel, yes it is possible, and the residents should be allowed to stew in their own juice. If they want to plant mines and booby traps along the border, let them have fun. We should stay on our side and them on their's. There is no need today for the foot of one IDF soldier to tread that territory. Security can be maintained by using sophisticated options. Last but not least a stiff and unequivocal warning should be given to the World that if they continue their fate will be sealed.
10. @ 1 + 2
AJ - Raalte   (03.27.10)
Never heard of border disputes, I guess. Why do you think the Pali's were planting those explosives near the fence? Only to make Israeli casualties and to infiltrate the country in order to make more. The IDF actions have nothing to do with Israel "occupying Gaza" but with defending her own territory and civilian population from would-be killers!
11. Sheba in NY - US Didn't Invade Gaza
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (03.27.10)
Obama didn't order troops into Gaza. The decision was made according to Ehud Barak's schizophrenic policy of controlling all life in Gaza and pretending Gaza is free at the same time. The Major got caught up in the madness of the policy. Obama had nothing to do with it. Maybe its Hamas' fault for thinking Israeli policy should make sense.
12. To TAYFUN, TURKEY
hacivatoglu ,   ISRAEL   (03.27.10)
sAME RESULTS FOR U WHEN ENTERING NORTH IRAK, AND LEAVING BEHIND HUNDREDS OF " SHEHIT " . Satisfaction in Paradise with 72 virgins.
13. Bees
Raptor   (03.27.10)
If you go chase bees there is a good chance you might get stung. On the other hand if you just leave them alone, they only buzz.
14. Peter Morris #4
Joan ,   New Zealand   (03.27.10)
Peter you are an absolute twit and obviously know nothing of the truth of this struggle. Try reading Joan Peter's book 'From Time Immemorial' it might help enlighten you a little and hopefully shock you to the core. No doubt you have just been listening to and reading the wicked propaganda that comes from the news media. Believe me Peter Israel is at the forefront of what many Western Countries will be facing before long, you had better hope and pray that she holds out. This is a spiritual battle, the Arabs want to get rid of this amazing land - 22 Arab Nations surrounding her is not enough for them, have you not yet noticed they have not got Israel on their maps. Wake up Peter you have no idea the danger we are all in.
15. should have bombed several 'Azan cities to smithereens
Yanni   (03.27.10)
If Israel refuses to defend herself properly, she will continue to unnecessarily waste young Jewish life. That is why failures Barak and Peres need to be fired by Israel. It's just not good enough, it's a failed policy, and is costing lives of Israelis. The IDF leaders should get some balls.
16. Please IDF no mass retaliation
Dr. Honey ,   GAZA   (03.27.10)
Gaza Civilians has nothing to do with this
17. IS OUR ARMY BECOMING WEAKER EVERY DAY!
IDF,,,, IDF ,   ISRAEL   (03.27.10)
I dont know whats going on, what has happened to IDF, every day there is a Failure, some thing is wrong.
18. Make Sense AJ
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (03.27.10)
There would be no Israeli casualties from border bombs if there were no plans for invading Gaza. The free kill zone is just that. And it is not self-defense. Your border could be 100% mined on your side with a wall like Egypt is building to prevent infiltration. This is no border dispute. Your government said its writ no longer ran in Gaza. Then the IDF announced the free kill zone almost a year later. That was after negotiating a fake cease fire in preparation for the Cast Lead I offensive.
19. #1 Geneva convention allows Israel into Gaza
Tony ,   brooklyn   (03.27.10)
I hate when morons try to quote non-existent international law. The Geneva convention clearly spells out that any armed force that operates from inside any civilian area without uniforms can be targeted and destroyed. Throughout US history US armed forces have crossed the Mexican borer to chase down and kill hordes of Mexican militant bandits when the Mexican government would not take the steps to control that border. Israel is operating completely under recognized international treaties against a homicidal death cult that targets Jewish women and children. You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.
20. It is all Obama's fault
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (03.27.10)
Obama is taking orders from Mahmoud Abbas. The PA, Hamas can do whatever they like, they know Obama will protect them.
21. hey 7 ! you love terrorists ?
stephane ,   france   (03.27.10)
who are you to say what israel have the right to do or not to defend its soldiers and citizens? you live 5000 kms from the gazans nazislamists, your kids are not in danger from rockets when they go at school, but only from the scotish...rain ! so shut up and write for your country. if all the scotish are terrorists lovers like you; you deserve what happened in lockerbi :-)
22. #9 is right
Bernd ,   Germany   (03.27.10)
The Palestinians were planning an attack so Israel hat to intervene. Palestinians also keep shooting rockets into Israel. Palestinians are trying to infiltrate Israel to abduct people. All the liars in this talkback are nothing more but the usual Israel-haters. On the other hand it is also clear that the IDF did mistakes in this operation. They should indeed not set one foot into Gaza. They should send in the bomber planes and rockets and flatten the areas from where they got shot and attacked. The Gazans will only learn not to attack Israel when they pay a real heavy price, unlike that Kindergarden play called the Gaza War one year ago. That obviously didn't teach them well.
23. @ 18
AJ - Raalte   (03.27.10)
If you think those Pali-bombs are defensive, you're grossly mistaken. But you probably think shooting hundreds of Qassams an mortars at Israeli civilians is also defensive on the Gazan side. The IDF did not announce that free kill zone out of the blue, but because of constant attempts at infiltration of souvereign Israel. It's Hamas who made it into a border dispute, by trying to erase Israel, as per the Hamas Covenant, and - moreover - they started their Operation Oil Stain three days before Israel retaliated with Cast Lead.
24. The only mistake is
Matityahu ,   Slovenia   (03.27.10)
that Gaza still exists.
25. How can it be the RIGHT DECISION if 2 killed+2wounded???
Alan ,   SA   (03.27.10)
26. #6 Tayfun Istanbul?
Jan de Groot ,   Amsterdam   (03.27.10)
Speaking of the IDF entering "muslim lands," could you please get your fellow Turks out of Christian lands like mine and oh yeah, your own ass out of Christian Byzantine! Appreciate it, thanks!
27. icant see why
AlistairClark ,   Scotland   (03.27.10)
the millitants should not have attacked the IDF ,The pals need security too ,if these guys want to booby trap inside of Gaza or plant bombs its upto them and know one else , God help the poor Gazan people !
28. problem with #9 and #22
zionist ,   miami   (03.27.10)
the world won't let Israel fight back. That is the problem with your calculus. Israel can't say to Gaza "leave us alone or else" because the world makes wild accusations if Israel tries to impose consequences and ignores what led up to it. Therefore Israel cannot threaten but act in the moment due to the world's ridiculously short memory and inability to reason so that Israel can point to immediate cause and effect.
29. #21 School children
Resistor   (03.27.10)
The crazed settlers pound village Palestinian kids with rocks daily as they try and make their way to school. The settlers are the tresspassers. The IDF ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT THE KIDS but sometimes they don't show up. The IDF protects the settlers, who sometimes shoot at the kids.
30. Fatal tactical and temperamental error
Mikhael Shahor ,   Brooklyn, US   (03.27.10)
A sad story, a sad maternal outcry and a clearly wrong tactical decision of of major Peretz. According to my initial analysis of the incidental accident (or accidental incident)Left on his own, his oriental roots and education made him act pretty similar to the way the arab terrorist enemy also acts and reacts. Sometimes similarity in thinking and doing turns out to be to the disadvantage of the ACTING part in a conflict. This becomes more and more a problem IDF is facing without being entirely aware of it:when having to fight with comparable weapons the orientalization of IDF carries away its former power as shown 1967, 1973 and partly 1978. Netanjahu, Lieberman, Barak, Ashkenazy and the likes still don't realize that IDF still succeeds mainly due to its far superior weapons and technology. The day a future IDF chief of staff won't carry the name Ashkenazy any more but the name Sephardi, IDF will loose its superiority in the field. Believe me ...
